Artists: Oasis
In a decision more something than we could possibly comment on, it appears that Radio 1 are planning to combat their potential strike disruptions with an Oasis day. Monday 23rd May will see the corporation's flagship station playing exclusive album tracks and a live set.

Songs from 'Don't Believe The Truth' will be played throughout the day and Noel Gallagher will be doing a sleb chat with Jo Whiley.

Steve Lamacq will finish off the night with a Lamacq Live Special, broadcasting the headline set from the band at London's Clapham Grand.

Once again, DiS now urges the BBC to give us a call. We can set this right.

Fucking scab bastards

If there is future strike action, can we look forward to 'Tribute to Eric Clapton Day'? It's like Oasis are now the stop-gap measure to appease some of the masses. It's like dragging Cliff richard out for another Christmas special.

Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

Is that the BBC approach to strike action?

Plea to BBC workers - If you have any compassion for your fellow man, please don't strike. An Oasis day is more than anything anyone should be put through.

The thought of it going into a second day (or "The Killers" day as the BBC might term it) is more than anyone should be subjected to

Wow. I've heard of dirty tactics to break strikes, but the threat of wall-to-wall Oasis... come on now BBC, show some humanity.

(...or alternatively, just play 1995 stuff and earlier. Excluding Wonderwall. And Don't Look Back In Anger)

Where's that user they call the_glory? Quick man, your band's honour is under attack! Dive in!

:-)

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghe

I was gonna let it lie, but as you asked so nicely.

Sorry to spoil this cheap jibe at Oasis' expense (DiS knocking Oasis? With their reputation?!? That's unprecedented) but Radio 1's Oasis day was announced many moons ago, long before BBC strike action was mooted for May 23rd. They were originally gonna broadcast the Monday night gig in Paris live, but are now having to broadcast a recording of the gig in Clapham from the day before.

Judging by the tone of this news item and the majority of news items about Oasis on DiS, I look forward to the imminent review of Oasis' new album with relish as I can tell it's gonna be fair, unbiased and entirely objective and not in the least bit snide, humourless and prententious. Cheers. See you at Madison Square Garden, folks.

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghe

Are you based in America?

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghe

No, but Madison Square Garden sounds grander than Milton Keynes.

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

You think the DiS review will be bad... wait for the one on Pitchfork.

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghe

I'm just gutted Brent DiCrescenzo has left music reviewing to pursue an unsuccessful career in avant-shite film-making.

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghe

Make no mistake though, I used to love Oasis... went to Earls Court, Maine Road, Knebworth... but the tunes dried up for me. I genuinely hope the new album is good.

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghe

Why? He was fucking awful

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

The events that have forced BBC workers to finally call a strike have been bubbling under for over a year (more acurately, since the new Director General walked in the door), so actually it's completely plausible that the Beeb have been planning something like this as a contingency against any strikes for sometime.

Indeed, it's a testament to Oasis' enduring MOR-ness that BBC radio can wheel out any old Oasis-related bullshit designed to pad out the schedules and be assured that listeners will barely notice the transition - not least, due to the sheer quantity of material.

Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

Oh come on.... an Oasis day has got to be a good idea! Even if it is just Noel, Liam and some session musicians......

and the new album rocks...... not that I'd know........

I agree with the statement about the review on DiS going to be 'snide, humourless and pretentious' but then, who'd expect any less

and pitchfork's will definitely be worse...............

Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

people who listen to radio one are asking for it, they deserve it!

Re: Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

Listened to the new album and i dont think its that great... its kind of.... 'meh.'

theres a track on there that is basically 'golden brown' with different words.

Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

Yup on top of being rude, arrogant talentless cunts they
are also fucking renowned plaigarists as well..

someone kill these unibrow wankers off soon, PLEASE!

Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

can someone punch The_Glory for me? if you can't tell how far they have fallen recently you have ears made out of cloth.

Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

reply to evilelvis and all you other oasis knockers:

You must have ears made of cloth if you cannot hear how great oasis are! The new album is fantastic. I expect you all listen to depressing bands like coldplay. Lay off oasis!!! You obviously don't know a great band when you hear one.

Radio 1 combat strike threat with the Gallaghers

Yep, I'm with oasisrocks. I think the new album is great...much improvement compared to their last two albums (but still nothing like the early days). I think if this was their first album and you hadn't heard them or anything about them your opinions would be a lot different. When the album comes out try listening to it in an unbiased manner...and don't forget to visit your Otologists to get those ears checked.

I love Oasis and I love Oasis for all your wrong reasons. They’re not going to change the world but who are japan, sorry The Bravery? I strive to rise above mediocrity as much as possible but sometime I just need to kick back with that old familiar wall of sound and mispronunciation of the shitty queens English. The only thing that I find wrong about Oasis is their drunken, obnoxious fans. I only want one obnoxious drunk in the building and that’s the singer.
