are amazing on record and have amazing songs but are the kinda songs that are amazing because they're about you, sat alone, focussing on them and not about a shared experience or the performance.
the shins should be on an album a year deal (like many authors are with books) and just play like 3 gigs a year. am sure we'd all be as happy.
the shins at koko was ruined not just by the sound of people talking at the bar but by the fact the band just arent that compelling live. they need to do the live show acoustic or at sit down venues. despite being one of my favourite bands i've seen them 5 times and only loved them once, in iceland, at a teeny venue and they played directly after the stills. what a night. this festival bill this year can't compete with that perfect 2hours of my life. xo
do a google search for soulseek, follow the instructions.
once downloaded do a search for an album or artist. look for the ones with a high dls (download speed) and with few people in their queue. right click on their name and browse their files. right click on the albums you want and download folder. bobs your uncle.
(actually just made that sound more complicated than it is).
is the most sentimental song i've ever heard.
"cloudy" if absinthe evaporates.
seriously, first impressions are the most important, sometimes.
it felt unfamiliar like the first time i heard pinkerton but intriguing like a stranger who's soon to become a lover or best friend.
i was just commenting on how you had been drinking, not that your opinion was wrong by the way.
I have listened to it again today and im starting to like it more, some songs are starting to stand out as being quite good, definitely something i have a desire to listen to again.
I'm trying to stop downloading leaked records, because the feeling of getting a new 12" after months of waiting... and then listening with 100% concentration is amazing.
But this is so damn tempting. I've only heard teh sinlge at the moment, Phantom Limb, and I love it.
why record labels follow this old model of finishing recordings then giving themselves 2 - 3 months lead time for promotion. That was all very well when they could control how and where music could be heard on the radio. We're all such spontaneous beings now, we hear about a new album/single and we want it. If things went on sale straight away, wouldn't many of us who want to support music buy it rather than just go searching for a download or audio hijack?
sometimes it isnt possible i dont think, im sure people with experience of running labels could give some reason why, or maybe it isnt neccessary i dont know
as a surprise from a friend. I'm not sure where she got it from. Someone said torrent? But apparently a rep for Sub Pop left a message asking them to take it down as The Shins were still working really hard on it :(
I then felt rather bad. But the album is excellent. And the fact I'm going to buy it is a given. They're pretty much my favourite band.
it just popped through my letterbox and i wouldn't put it on until i'd had a really big shower and washed my hair with STRAWBERRIES and put the heating on and now it's ON and i'm eating SOUP and it's ALL SO LOVELY.
Phantom Limb does seem to be the standout so far, though, which is sometimes a little worrying when that starts to happen so obviously so soon, but then, i wouldn't know about the rest of it yet, as i keep pressing repeat, repeatedly...
I'm going to resist the temptation to download it
I want to buy it on CD.
what's it called?
is it on soulseek? if not, where?
Wincing the Night Away is the title
i got it from another forum, tis very good
i imagine it is all over Oink, Soulseek etc
Very good
leaked all over the place.
I really should
try and resist
i still haven't listened to Ys.
TWO WEEKS TO GO!
me neither, ^5
nor have i heard trail of dead or deftones. 2006 is so good.
Leaked already?!?
Mercy me, it's not out till January! I don't think I can resist, I'm going to have to download it.
why do people like the shins so much
is it because of garden state? they're alright but so unremarkable what am I missing
that's strike one
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/1226515#r1227363
aww I like garden state
sad man finds love, happy ending. A nice little film.
EARS from the sound of it!
I love that band an unreasonable amount.
new album is really really good!
after about 3 or 4 listens today, love it!
On first listens it didn't really grab me...
I'm not really much of a big shins fan though anyway, they're okay, I think some of their songs are brilliant but others just bore me to tears.
rubbish at atp
bored to actual tears
loads of people
said that. They were ALL WRONG. They were actually the perfect ending to ATP, I loved their set.
Me too
They were great.
I'm a big fan
and I thought their set at ATP was astonishingly terrible. Singing along countered how bad it was at some points but it was generally awful.
I saw them at Reading once and they were a lot better even though I didn't know anything but So Says I at that point.

the shins were quite well-known before garden state.
i don't even like the ones braff chose for that.
yeah but since garden state
they are massive
oops
three strikes
where are you getting this from?
i can't find it...
How does soulseek work
where should i download it from...how do i get a username and password?
Tip for downloading leaked albums:
(Apart from on slsk and torrent sites, etc)
Search on www.technorati.com and normally someone will have written a blog about it with a link to yousendit or rapidshare or something.

once downloaded do a search for an album or artist. look for the ones with a high dls (download speed) and with few people in their queue. right click on their name and browse their files. right click on the albums you want and download folder. bobs your uncle.

thatisall.
That good?
??
how can you tell so quickly?
i think his judgement might be
a bit "cloudy" at the moment. ive listened to it once, it seems alright, nothing jumped out at me as being amazing
the closing track
is the most sentimental song i've ever heard.
"cloudy" if absinthe evaporates.
seriously, first impressions are the most important, sometimes.
it felt unfamiliar like the first time i heard pinkerton but intriguing like a stranger who's soon to become a lover or best friend.
yes
i was just commenting on how you had been drinking, not that your opinion was wrong by the way.
I have listened to it again today and im starting to like it more, some songs are starting to stand out as being quite good, definitely something i have a desire to listen to again.
I tried to resist this
But then someone emailed it to me. Doh. I WILL OF COURSE PURCHASE. In january.
I'm too scared to listen though. In case it lets me down. Even though it IS The Shins.
I saw them on the short May tour earlier this year
And I was really impressed by the new songs.
I'm trying to stop downloading leaked records, because the feeling of getting a new 12" after months of waiting... and then listening with 100% concentration is amazing.

*sings a long*
Whoah-Oh-Oh-Whoahoahoah...
the* single*
Just got off from my first seven hour shift, and my hands are so tired...
Good enough excuse?
someone PM me
I have no CD money at present. Please.
:)
I don't really understand
why record labels follow this old model of finishing recordings then giving themselves 2 - 3 months lead time for promotion. That was all very well when they could control how and where music could be heard on the radio. We're all such spontaneous beings now, we hear about a new album/single and we want it. i dunno
sometimes it isnt possible i dont think, im sure people with experience of running labels could give some reason why, or maybe it isnt neccessary i dont know
I'm going to wait and buy it.
its good
very good
Phantom Limb
is awesome.
I love the bits where he sings high.
Australia
is my new So Says I. The closing track is lovely as well.
Where can you get this?
I'll obv buy it when its out.
I was emailed it
as a surprise from a friend. I'm not sure where she got it from. Someone said torrent? But apparently a rep for Sub Pop left a message asking them to take it down as The Shins were still working really hard on it :(
I then felt rather bad. But the album is excellent. And the fact I'm going to buy it is a given. They're pretty much my favourite band.
by torrent
I meant a torrent site.
Yeah thats cool.
Cheers.
I'll have a look for it after work.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
it just popped through my letterbox and i wouldn't put it on until i'd had a really big shower and washed my hair with STRAWBERRIES and put the heating on and now it's ON and i'm eating SOUP and it's ALL SO LOVELY.

ok
i take that back
'Spilt Needles' is amazinggggg
I love the new album
Best Shins LP yet. Sleeping Lessons, Red Rabbits, Australia and Sea Legs are lush.
Apparently
the quality of the leak is a bit crappy?
So I'm holding off listening to it, which is hard.
feel no shame
download the thing then buy the higher quality record
marty was asking people in new with a wink who downloaded the song, it souded like they were happy people we getting excited about the new record...
urm no
the quality of the leak is great.
i'm gonna buy it in jan too. credit cards are ace.
The original leak
was only 128 bitrate I think, but there's better versions around now.
It's not very good anyway.
I didn't think it was very interesting.
I might try and listen to it again.
Sometime.
