Yoko Ono: she wants her money, dammit!
Posted: 20 Oct '06, 14:33
Yoko Ono, yeah: she's not actually mental. If she was, she probably wouldn't have noticed all the money the EMI Group Plc owe her in royalties from her late fella's record sales. You remember, that guy that Ian Hart played in Backbeat... I forget his name... Paul?
Ono has sued the aforementioned record label people to the tune of a staggering ten million dollars. Which is, officially, A Lot Of Money. She must be doing up her kitchen and bathroom at the same time if she needs all that green. Well, Homebase have an offer on, so...
Ono alleged that EMI, and Capitol, have violated a number of agreements by “willfully and knowingly underreporting royalties”. Which is bad, on their part. EMI responded, via a spokesperson. One day, I'm going to employ a mime to make a DiS statement...
"Artists from time to time request audits of their royalty accounts. Sometimes there are differences of opinion, which is understandable given the complex nature of recording contracts."
Billboard reports all this, stating that Ono's three-page document also alleges that the label/s were dishonest in their accounting. Which is strange, as I figured all accountants were bent, and that such a quality was encouraged at accountancy school.
MENTAL.

nah dude. people like me do their royalties.
with no accountancy degrees. HMM. maybe that's the problem?
ah well. she's full of shit anyway.

heavan forbid
she wouldnt get her cash for all those songs she wrote.... oh yeah thats right...
i like the way julian lennon had to take her to court to get a 1970's monthly maintance of £4000 a year overturned and brought up to date
he managed to get a million which was all he was asking in the first place
she took it to the courts
nice lady ....

pft
she ruined the plastic ono band

Three pages?
Three pages hardly makes it sound like she's filled it with much additional evidence. I wrote four to harass my landlord about his excessive pillaging of our damage deposit.
Accounting degrees are usually classed as arts rather than sciences. There is a reason for this. If the accountants concerned are any good whatsoever at their jobs they'll be able to rationalise every bit of apparent dishonesty they're accused of.

Yoko =
the best one out of the Beatles.
-
yoko was Johns wife
and we should respect that. He thought she was worthwhile and he chose to be be her therefore why does everyone seem to be constantly knocking her? oh yeah...cos the media say its ok...
well I support yoko ono and i really liked her track ( Kiss kiss kiss) on the b side of ( just like) starting over. Also I thought 'Walking on Thin Ice' was totally brilliant imho..-
She's mental - End of
BUT, she's comepletely right to get the money she's owed. I'm sure everyone can see it's not about money but about big businesses acting like fuckheads living off other people's creativity and success.
I can fully believe they're ripping her off and she should kick they FUCKING ARSES, court case style.
-
anyway
everyone knows Ringo and George were the only reasons the Beatles were "any good"
-
She's owed me a DiS mixtape comp
for a long time, seriously, if that was really her using that name
-
-
yeah
she's been living of his creativtiy for years
i just think there should be laws about tone deaf people releasing records
but i think she is right to stick it to the man
