Slipknot played the Greek capital of Athens this week, causing the country's Orthodox Church to get itself into a right ol' stink.

The church accused the band of promoting devil worship, and urged organisers behind their Monday night (3oth May) show to pull the plug. Of course, their appeals came to nothing, but the following makes for amusing reading.

An official statement from the church read: "Public institutions must do their duty and protect Greek citizens from any public event that promotes Satanism. The members of the band have a shocking appearance, wearing black uniforms and masks that look like skulls."

Which suggests they never listened to the music, or else they'd have it banned on quality grounds alone.

Hehe, a whole gang of priests at a Slipknot gig. Purely for research reasons of course.

Re: Masks that look like skulls? Knot allowed in G

Priests? 'Wearing black uniforms'? That's devil-worship, isn't it? How confusingly HYPOCRITICAL

Masks that look like skulls? Knot allowed in Greece!

can't they just hide in a corner with their fingers in their ears singing hymns loudly to themselves?

so Priests don't like ugly men wearing nasty black clothes but think its OK to bone their alter boys?? how queer.

Re: Masks that look like skulls? Knot allowed in Greece!

Oh, very drool DiS, take the low road and insult the music.......grow up!

Re: Masks that look like skulls? Knot allowed in Greece!

"very drool"

Haha! Although I know you meant 'drole', 'drool' seems so much more apt.

Tres bien Mr Tre Cool, you have made me chuckle.

Not a massive fan of the 'Knot, but when you're writing under the generic 'DiS news' banner wouldn't it be better to keep it objective if you don't want to drive people away?

Re: Masks that look like skulls? Knot allowed in Greece!

If little comments like that are enough to drive someone away from this loveable site then good riddence. I'm sure they'll go far in life if they can't take someone elses oppinion even if it is someone 'writing under the generic 'DiS news' banner'.
( i used to live with a family who were big on their church thing. we once had most of the congregation round to sing hyms. Oh goody what fun. I played Slipknot very loudly. I think it upset them as they chucked me out not to long afterwards. You live you learn.)

You sir, are a buffoon and that is quite possibly the most moronic comment I have ever read

Re: Masks that look like skulls? Knot allowed in G

thats the most moronic comment you're ever heard, you should spend some more time on, your eyes will be opened..

the place where they are playing - lycavitus theatre - is one of the most beautiful places for a gig EVER. it's situated on top of a big hill in the centre of athens which looks over the whole of the city,
its open air aswell and is pure gig heaven

It’s a good comment if it was the Catholic Church. But it is moronic in that the Greek church has no such problems with alter boys, due to the fact that the Greek orthodox church priest can get married and have children, Unlike all the fagot Catholic priests.

Lycavitus theatre is indeed gorgeous gig place.Remember climbing at the rocks to see radiohead free up there. It was fun.

It was afunny story but there are much more amusing storis about greek orthodox story at the moment. Apparently according to some videotapes that leaked and got played on greek tv some like the young boys too You'd think the church would want to keep a low profile after half of them were wanted for anything from drugs trafficking to stealing churches.
As long as they don't listen to Slipknot, all their other sins will be forgiven I suppose..

Re: Masks that look like skulls? Knot allowed in Greece!

Stealing Churches? That's just impressive.

Masks that look like skulls? Knot allowed in Greece!

No, its still not a good comment. Contrary to the opinion of a seemingly largely number of prats, the Catholic Church does not condone kiddy-fiddling.

I suggest you read The Sun a bit less.
