cds are sooooo expensive it seems,

does anyone else find that the best albums are the ones you buy after hearing, like, one song?

don't buy from expensive establishments eg. hmv (well, go ahead but you could save some serious pennies elsewhere) the key to it is... go buy from little shops who love new bands and who charge more like £10 rather than £15.
Plus ur supporting the little people in life...

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

I usually find the best albums are the ones I buy without knowing anything about them beforehand. If you trust someone's judgement, or just appreciate their passion, then when you buy a record you don't know, you have no preconceptions and you can let it take you wherever it wants, rather than going 'oh, I know that bit' when the single comes along.

I picked up the Comets on Fire album after someone said they liked it, and my god, it's the bomb. So, people...recommend me more stuff! (and then I'll go the little shops on Berwick Street and buy them cheaply!)

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

hear hear!

that is so the way to do it, then you totally broaden ur music knowledge and discover fab new bands who you grow to love... and become obsessed with!

i have a few reliable sources i think, but its all a question of taste.

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

Ebay's is my main place for CDs, even if you're getting them from the US it's still much cheaper than importing.

I always trust people's judgement on obscure stuff, because basically, you're not gonna hear anything by a band/artist unless you just go for it and buy the album. For me an example of that was Neon Golden by The Notwist, one that pitchfork actually got it right on.

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

The latest From Autumn To Ashes album is currently in MVC for £7.99...go buy now!

also check out the new Killswitch and 36 Crazyfists albums in the HMV sale

sorry...this comment is totally irrelevant, just i feel everyone should be aware of these great deals...better than paying £15 for Million Dead now isn't it?

(not that i hate Million Dead, just its a shit price)

damn i wish i wouldn't rattle

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

At my favourite indie record store they put post-it notes with random appreciative scrwalings on their favourite new albums.

Its a nice touch that. They have good taste, AND they still sell 7 inch vinyl singles for 99p!

If I don't buy from there, I generally just buy from Amazon as it's not too expensive and the CDs always arrive quickly.

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

I mean the whole note thing?

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

HMV and Virgin tend to have various offers on nearly all the time I think. Not always the stuff you want to buy but you can still find a bargain if you're lucky. I think they're trying to compete with cheaper places.

I like Beanos in Croydon. It's purple. CD Warehouse is good too, can't remember where they have branches other than Wimbledon though.

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

Well i live near her and the shop which i loved and put post it notes on CD's has shut down.

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!

when I got to gigs, and I like the band, even a bit, I always try and buy the album. It's better to get it then if you are going to buy it at some point anyway as the band gets nearly all the money as they will have bought it from their label or got it made really cheap and so they for once actually end up getting money for their own music.

Re: buying music... you can buy my love!
