  • Re: The Cool List 2004

    Bands: Muse, Zutons, Futureheads
    Cities: Manchester and Liverpool
    Venues: Liverpool Carling Academy, Apollo
    Website: DiS, www.mcseanandfriends.tk, rathergood.com
    • Re: The Cool List 2004

Liverpool Carling Academy's club nite is one of the crappest i've ever been to. They're was hardly anyone there and the people who were suffered from the non native disease of sitting on the sofas pretending to be too cool to dance. The drinks are overpriced too.

Manchester Academy is an awful venue. Everyone's shoehorned in like sardines.

Venue: Manchester Night And Day Cafe - maybe because they serve coffee in all forms to get you through support acts.
Clubs: Liverpool Barfly - when they have the female rock DJ in.

Le Bateau - Saturday night. Sometimes the regular DJ goes missing and the stand ins play crap but when its on point with the music its really good. Just ignore the pretentious wankers in Strokes t-shirts, the way every guy says he's in or been asked to be in a band and the silly little girls in Mary Quant and immaculate kohl eyeliner.

Bands - Maximo Park and 10,000 Things

Shops: Afflecks Palace in Manchester. It's great for variety but not cheap. Still it knocks bells off Quiggins.

Eateries: Manchester has too many franchises.
The Egg in Liverpool and Kimos but you get miles better service at The Egg and i'm told they host poetry nights.

Cinemas: The look of Fact in Liverpool but the screens of the Filmworks in Manchester

Alrighty, then... I'll give her a go:

    Bands: British Sea Power
Cities: Minneapolis - like a goth San Francisco with better record stores
Clubs/Venues: Henry Ford in LA. Good vibe, plenty of bars, large upstairs al fresco patio, plenty of room in front to get all sweaty with the kids
Web sites: DiS, of course... except for this Taste Meter thing. Now, I'd like to think that I've scored perfect (1.000) and that I'm the yardstick by which all other's tastes are measured, but.... And since the damn thing goes out to the qua-trillioneth place, I've gotta believe I'm the victim of some kind of inside joke at the DiS offices. Note to Matt: I think maybe you missed a line of code there buddy! Fortunately, I don't really give a shit, but I just wanted to let you know I know. Y'know? ;-)

I don't give a shit about cool, the whole idea is ridiculous. I live my own life, not the advertiser's version of my life.

As Oscar Wilde said: "Only the modern ever becomes old fashioned"
    • Re: The Cool List 2004

Um... what's your issue with the music taste thing? it just measures similarity, so you should have similarity 1 to yourself...
  • Re: The Cool List 2004

Bands: The Cure, The Robot Vs, Opus, Art Brut

    Venues: The West End Centre

  • Re: The Cool List 2004

    *cough* www.sinradio.co.uk {end slightly poor excuse for a plug!}
  • Re: The Cool List 2004

the dresden dolls, hot snakes, devo, the knife, guitar wolf, le tigre, the b-52's, redmeat.com, playgroundlaw.com, trilby hats
    • Re: The Cool List 2004

      Bands: Sparks, Radiohead and Streets

      Everything else is in Leeds
The Cockpit is best venue, HiFi is best club and Ace (maybe Vintage) is the best shop
      • Re: The Cool List 2004

i doubt that any of these things are cool, but theyre making me happy at the momenty and thats all that matters to me -

music - Neil Diamond, Pavement, Do Me Bad Things, Metallica's "Master Of Puppets", Stone Roses "Ten Storey Lovesong", my sister's Japan LPs.

food - sausage and mash, chorizo sandwich from Hamburger Union in Soho, salmon sushimi from Yo Sushi.

tv - Arrested Developement, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and my guilty pleasure of Two Pints Of Lager and A Packet Of Crisps

drink - Irn Bru, single malt, Grolsch.

film - The Matrix on Channel5 last night even though ive got it on dvd and never watch it. Alien vs Predator. Withnail and I.
        • Re: The Cool List 2004

That reminds me! I listened to the first Arrested Development album the other day (I know, it's not the programme, but it got me thinking).
          Fuck me, what an album.

In 2004 though, it's been about The Kaiser Chiefs, and will continue to be so throughout next year, as they do a Franz Ferdinand style mindwarp of every vaguely indie teenybopper in the land, and then start to piss me off through inadvertant radio overkill. Nevermind, I like them at the moment.
