Scottish four-piece angular chart overlords Franz Ferdinand have announced details of their brand new album for this Autumn.

Opting to call the record exactly the same thing as the last, which humorously enough is the same moniker they chose for the band itself, ('Franz Ferdinand') it will also bear the same artwork but with altered colours.

The band have announced a US tour around the release and are expected to perform a similar action involving UK dates over the next month.

I think they've said they're aiming for the Led Zep style, ie. Franz Ferdinand I, FF II, etc.

To be honest, I think this means they'll not evolve at all, and will become increasingly crap.

Let us then hold our breath and hope that FF, having decided to go with the same title, don't emulate the last album completely and fill it with a collection of samey smug-sounding songs.

I suppose they are admitting that it's essentially the same as the first. Self-aware and all, but still deeply annoying from a conversational, internet searching, referencing etc point of view.

Auntie (buying xmas present for nephew): "Have you got the Franz Ferdinand CD?"
HMV shop assistant: "Which one?"
Auntie: "Oh, I think it's called 'Franz Ferdinand'."
HMV bloke: "Uh-huh. Which one?"
Auntie: "Aghhh!"

I see these problems before they arise.

It seems kind of a waste when bands do this.

So much time and effort goes into an album, you must have *something* to call it.

Also, all the song names (of songs that I've heard) are really annoyingly obvious.

"FF's second album featuring the hot single This Fringe as played by edith bowman" yadda yadda yadda...

They must be splitting soon. They'll run out of colours soon, considering they used about three for the last one. Soon they'll have to be in different shades and NME hipsters will be going "dude, have you got the new Franz Ferdinand album? It's like...a different shade of red to the last one..."

Do you really think that people who read the NME are hipsters? They're more likely to be teenagers just getting their first look at indie music by buying a magasine with the Killers on the front.

Franz have never bothered me personally. I have a peverse love of the mix of 'Take Me Out' and the Beastie Boys' 'Triple Trouble' that's been doing the rounds.
