My bad...

...don't know what I was thinking of there :s

1. Snowden- Anti Anti
2. Howling Bells- Howling Bells
3. Muse- Black Holes and Revelations
4. Damien Rice-9
5. Guillemots- Through The Windowpane

To the person who said The Drips...

...I agree. It is very strange that it's a better album than The Bronx's new one is (but only just).

And did volcano! come out this year? I thought it was last year. Bad memory...

The Drips

are amazing. Great bit of punk rock.

They are good

However live I thought they were very tame compared to The Bronx. Saw them at that "secret gig" in London around new year (forget the venue name)

they're

great live! I saw them back in June, and they were fantastic! Only about 50 people were at the gig mind, but it was brilliant!

My Latest Novel-Wolves
Liam Frost and the Slowdown Family-Show Me How The Spectres Dance
Mates of State-Bring it Back

Though, Muse, TV on the Radio, The Spinto Band, Guillemots, The Mountain Goats, and the Mars Volta were all brilliant

i feel bad leaving out some albums now

i hate these lists, i've got about 20 favourite albums from this year at least.

lists make music seem so flippant.

This is what i can think from the top of my head

sonic youth rather ripped
semi finalists...semi finalists
absentee ...Schmotime
broken family band ...Balls

Off the top of my head...

1. Joanna Newsom - Ys

I haven't heard Isis, but I'd imagine it's great. I'm just not made of money!

.

errrr....

1) TV On The Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain
2) Mastodon - Blood Mountain
3) Beirut - Gulag Orkestar
4) Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid Of You, And I Will Beat Your Ass
5) Panic! At The Disco - A Fever You Can't Sweat Out

er

Jeremy Warmsley: The Art of Fiction
My Latest Novel: Wolves
Ladyfuzz: Kerfuffle
Regina Spektor: Mary Ann Meets the Gravediggers (this was early 2006)

but the best album of the yeeear is

Metronomy: Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe).

I HAVE SPOKEN

I wish

I bought new albums enough to put together a list. My list is mainly of albums that've been out for ages, but I only just bought them.

Tired

Drums Not Dead - Liars
wasn't sure about this one at first, seemed too soft, too airy to have come from the band responsible for 'Brocken Witch', but I saw them live and suddenly it all made sense.

Classics - Ratatat
I'm obv. struggling with top albums this year, but this is included on the basis of 'Tropicana' alone (almost)

Happy New Year - Oneida
return to form? Best Oneida album since Anthem of the Moon? 'Up With People' helped propel my summer.

as for others... mcluskyism was pretty fckn special, does that count? Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped was predictably enjoyable. And 'The Seven Sistered Sea-Secret of Shh Shh Shh' by Leopard Leg might only be two tracks, but it's 40+ minutes and a favourite of mine.

My Top 5-ish

Amplifier- Insider
YCNI:M- Print is Dead (I got it early!)
Sucioperro- Random Acts..
ILiKeTrAiNs
Hope of the States- Left

Honourable mention: Brigade-Lights, Humanzi-Tremors, The Answer- Rise, Feeder- Singles

I wish I could say I like the new Kasabian, but it's just not doing it for me....

Oh, I think these lists are great as I always discover some stellar band I've never heard of :)

my 5

Liars - Drums not Dead
Yo La Tengo - I am not afraid of you..
betika - Halflove
Knife - Silent Shout
Hot Chip - Warning

Still quite a few that i havent listened to much but could be in contention come end of year including Benoit Pioulard, Decemberists, Akron/Family, Miho Hatori, Califone, ensemble

.

Ys
He Poos Clouds
Silent Shout
Yellow House
return to the sea or wolves or return to cookie mountain

I can't beleive noe one has said

Amusement Parks On Fire - Out Of The Angeles

I also like:
The Blood Brothers - Young Machetes
Converge - No Heroes
Hundred Reasons - Kill Your Own
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager
The Mars Volta - Amputechture
Sucioperro - Random Acts of Intimacy
iForward Russia! - Give Me A Wall

Didn't actually read this thread before posting, but it's now glorious to find an ally in my Metronomy love

And I'd push Trick Or Treatz forward as a contender against Black Eye/Burnt Thumb
