Blur have one last album in them, says Alex James

blur

Blur have at least one, final album in there, says the band's bassist Alex James, new presenter of Channel 4 Radio's The Tube.

The band's guitarist Graham Coxon left in 2002, and singer Damon Albarn has been busying himself with a selection of projects including Gorrilaz and The Good, The Bad And The Queen (yes yes, I realise that's not the group's actual name, et cetera...)

James told the BBC: “I've got high hopes that Blur will have a happy four-piece ending. I think it would be a shame if it didn't, really. I think we'd all like to make another record. We'd all like to do it with Graham.”

With or without Coxon, James is sure Blur will get together for a final long-player. I'm not holding my breath, mind - if I did I'd pass out, and I've lots of work to do!

  • I love/loved Blur

but who really cares about a new album this far down the line after Thinktank?

    Eeeh I'm a reet miserable bastard aren't I?

  • I also Love/Loved Blur

and I'll tell you who cares about a new album . . . me!

  • Either's fine

I just want new Blur material. But I loved Think Tank too.

On a related(ish) subject, I completely failed to get tickets for The Good, The Bad and The Queen this morning. Five minutes walk from my flat and I can't even go. Hurumph.

  • would be nice

especially as Think Tank was so good, but Damon Albarn at this rate is happy to keep finding new side-projects to do.

Coxon keeps saying he has no intention of returning anyway doesn't he?

  • ho is "Gorrilaz"?

one day, gareth dobson will give me back my copy of 'think tank'.

  • i concur

with the 'fuck coxon' school of thought.

    • I don't.

Blur without Coxon is like The Verve without Nick McCabe: totally fucking useless and shit. Both bands relied on something beyond the gigantic egos of their singers to mark them out as More Than Just A Bunch Of Indie Cunts, and both bands lost it when that something left.

      • I reckon

Coxon will return - not 'cause he wants to feel like some kind of God, but 'cause if it's definitely going to be the last ever Blur album, he'll want to make sure it's done properly. Ie, without Simon Tong getting anywhere near it.

        • I don't see the point

Coxon and Albarn were clearly pulling in opposite directions after 13. Graham Coxon was clearly happiest on the self titled album and wanted to drench everything in distorted guitar (as he has done with his solo stuff), where as Albarn wanted to move on to the more "world music" inspired sound of Think Tank, Gorrillaz and TGTBATQ. You can't really have a definative encapsulation of Blur's sound, because the most interesting thing about them was how they morphed over the years.

          • No

Coxon is not going to comeback Alex is delusional. Plus, it's not like Think Tank was a bad album.

  • This full thing...

Is full of cliches. The thought of a band reuniting and all the opinions of people who will follow it.

And im disgusted that nobody has mentioned the supreme quality of how good Coxon actually is on 13

Blur are my favorite band of all time. I loved them since i was 8 years old (now 21) and i honestly cant convince myself that it will happen. But i also cant convince myself that it wont.

  • damon albarn

    can go suck a fuck

  • Alex James...

... is an anagram of Ale Sex Jam. And he's a cock. Utter. Cock.

So are you by the sounds of it. But you arent in one of the biggest bands of the 90s are you? No? Then shut your hole.
