Former Libertine-slash-current Babyshamble Mr Pete Doherty is hoping to star in a film about his own life. Really.

The sometime singer told Sky that he was determined to reconnect with his audience, dispelling his junkie image. He said that the media paints him as a "tragic figure".

In related news, Babyshambles' single 'Fuck Forever' will now be released on August 15th.

In totally related news:

Babyshambles' postponement of their summer tour has caused a stir in the tabloids, a massive album delay the alleged reason. The Daily Star quotes a source as saying:
"The bosses at Pete's record label are terrified; their album is still not near completion. They can't afford for Pete to be out of the studio for any more time. The band have been working on the LP for nearly six months and it's still not near completion."

Firstly its very self centred... starring in a film about yourself.

Secondly, who's gonna watch it. Its not like he's had an interesting life is it? He lived with Borrell... went into the Libs... became a junky, and into Babyshambles.

I'd rather watch: 'The James Blunt Story'. Just to hear his funny voice. Tee hee hee!

first of all, please learn the basics of the english language.
second of all, this condensed report is a lot less tabloid-ish than the daily updates you can find regularly on that other music website, and in victoria newton's 'bizarre' column.
i don't see how him wanting a film about himself is exaggerated, nor postponing the gigs (which, uh, newsflash, did happen) .
i would think sky and the daily star would know better than to publish a libellous comment.
the pete doherty story will end exactly like the kurt cobain story, but with a crucial difference. i'm sure as hell not going to be telling my kids about those libertines idiots.

no of course the daily star and sky would know better than publishing a libellous comment...

The Daily Star quotes A SOURCE as saying:
"The bosses at Pete's record label are terrified; their album is still not near completion. They can't afford for Pete to be out of the studio for any more time. The band have been working on the LP for nearly six months and it's still not near completion."

as you can see they get around it by making up exagerrated quotes and attributing them to "a source".

the album is in fact near completion and i doubt the record label are "terrified".

"news" stories like this are utterly pointless ?!

so then why did he postpone his tour? it's certainly not the first time this has happened.
and how do you know the album is near completion?
it has to be said, that the majority of tabloid journalism is sensationalist arsewank, but it's pretty easy to buy into when you've got a community full of libs-haters.
i just think that without his periodic drug abuse/kate moss he wouldn't have nearly as much hero worship or column inches

of course he wouldn't have as much hero worship or column inches without moss/drugs but that clearly isn't why he does drugs/moss. i expect it's because doing drugs/moss is great. and he doesn't ask for the column inches or write these articles himself.

the only reason i'm so agitated about this is because it's so easy for people to be sheep and buy into the sensationalist arsewank the papers come out with because the world is so full of libs haters.

if the sun decided to start printing scandalous stories about joanna newsom's frequent drug-taking and/or promiscuous behaviour (which, by the way, i just made up), then i'd be first to defend her honour.
i just think pete asks for it rather a lot.

A titbit of news re that tour: apparently Doherty sacked the band, and that's why the album's nowhere near finished and the tour was postponed.

I think it'd be better for all involved if Pete now finished the Babyshambles thing altogether and disappeared for a year to sort himself out. I dislike his music, that much is true, but it's so depressing to see a guy day in day out on the verge of absolute self-destruction. He's already a burnt-out shell.

He should be allowed/he should have the sense to go away and get his shit together. Ditch the celebrity girlfriend unless she wants to help him, and get out of the public eye.

The album will never happen unless circumstances change, and the only way they will is if the key protagonist of the piece takes a step back with a clear head and realises what a complete shambles - no pun intended - it is.

That film will never be made.........if he can't get it together to record an album in under six months, he'll never be able to make a movie, and no-one would ever pay for him to indulge his non existent work ethic.

It's clearly utter bullshit that he's not an addict anymore.

I bet you won't be able to hear the work that's gone into that album...it will still sound like out of tune, poorly played, mumbled shite. I could make an album on my own in two days that would sound more coherent than anything Babyshambles could ever do. What a waste of flesh

Has anyone actually sat and thought about why somebody would choose to do things like crack and heroin? Ever wondered why somebody would choose such a self-destructive path in life? I don't think it was because he wanted to be in the tabloids everyday for his latest antics or to die like Kurt Cobain and be immortalised forever as a misunderstood hero. I think it was because he was a bit of a dickhead who is easily lead by others around him and eager to have fun and live the rockstar life. And I also think it's disrespectful and inconsiderate for others to say he's a little twat and should die because they know nothing about him and his personal life. If you hate him so much then why don't you just ignore him and not give him an audience anymore instead of adding to the controversy by hating him.

I've got nothing against Pete Doherty. I like the Libs and really liked Babyshambles for a while but lately it has just become ridiculous to the point where I can't be bothered to be a 'fan' anymore. It's all become a massive farce culminating in the last few months.

Of course, he's been on crack for years and nothing is new there, but now everything he does is in the Sun and on the net within 5 minutes of something happening. I actually believe he is a genuinely nice bloke, the problem is he is vulnerable, extremely gullible and naive. He befriends and trusts people too easily and gets drawn in to these situations he can't get out of. He needs to go away and come back in 6 months to a year. He really needs to get out of the limelight. The sad thing is - he won't.

I personally don't think this will happen. I'd definately check it out if it did. I think if it showed the demise of the Libertines it would be a very interesting thing to watch.

what's the problem?

People, you seriously have mixed views on this man and his ex band, they as a group were good, sang about things which have now made pete d the talk of most music mags, newspapers etc, but as a person i do not agree with his habit, drugs are not the answer even if it is his 'creative outlet'....hoping the babyshambles will take us by storm as their first album is good, cant stop listening to it. I think a flick will only cause more people to hate a man they dont know anything about other than what've they read about him and an addiction that i dont like but cant condone.

Pete's alright, give him a break. He's fucked up.
His music's slightly above average in a feuilletonistic age where slightly above average is the best anyone who's never heard anything has ever heard.
It's not his fault people buy in to him. They mistakenly think of him as a romantic figure because of his outlaw behaviour. If you've ever seen someone heavily on junk you'll realise what absolute twaddle this notion is but.....
I'm sure he loves the attention! He gets rich and fucks Kate Moss! Score!
