The Rolling Stones are to release their first studio album since 1997's Bridges Of Babylon: Neo-con will be released on September 5th.

The album's release will coincide with another world tour. Neo-con was recorded in France and is reported to see the band take a stand of sorts against George W, the title apparently a reference to the American President.

So that's dad's Christmas present fixed early, then...

I.m a huge fan of the Stones, but i have a question!

Do people still buy 'new' rolling stones albums?

The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

Aren't they dead?

But seriously.... Another George Bush protest album. SNORE!! Why doesn't somebody at the record company tell them that Radiohead, Grrenday and a whole shedload of other bands have already done that.

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

Yeah, once two people have said something, there's no need for anyone else to! Problem solved!

Now, back to writing songs about girls..

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

Yeah, ok, point taken. But its a bit of an obvious thing to protest about and I don't think that anyone new will be persuaded by the Rolling Stones. Its almost a cliche already. Its the musical equivalent of thanking god for an oscar. I am perhaps trying a bit hard to justify my annoyance here... I don't like Bush either, but I also realise its none of my business really.

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

CAn there be too many protest albums?

The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

They'll be missed when they're gone.....

The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

Still, it can't be worse than Jagger's stuff for the Alfie soundtrack can it?

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

The Rolling Stones have not released a good song in 34 years, why the fuck are they still getting kudos?

The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

Oooh, great, political protest from someone who accepted a knighthood from Blair. How edgy.

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

but surely the function of art is to react to society? every band is writing in a post-bush being elected world, as well as post-9/11 and all that. fair play for the stones for writing a relevant record as well, its along time since theyve done that.

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

I don't actually see how accepting a knighthood rules you out of the ability to critique anything that any government in the world does.

(Having said which this will be embaressing).

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

It depends on the government, surely?

Attacking American imperialism isn't very credible when you accept an honour which celebrates British imperialism, does it?

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

But whether it really celebrates British imperialism is pretty dubious...

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

Knight of the British Empire? Looks rather clear cut to me.

These guys are "a few" years too late for an anti-Bush album. How would this be considered relevent? The war is over. Bush is an idiot who has already acted. They should have spoke up before.

I guess you're right if you say this album will be relevent. Its just late. Very late.

Re: The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

the war is over? do you read the news?

The Rolling Stones ready 'Neo-con'

The stones have been writing anti-war songs for a long time, so no, they're not too late - see 'blinded by rainbows' and 'highwire' for examples.

Jaggers tracks for the Alfie album were pretty good anyway especially Old Habits Die Hard, just my opinion though.

The new album will be great, i'm sure; a return to form after slightly dissapointing Bridges to Babylon. Voodoo Lounge was a fantastic album though, so it's worth buying if you're a fan of the older stuff.

I am into Dr Dre

Personally I think this is a good thing. Ageing white males with unimaginable wealth tend to be perceived as right wing and pro-establishment so perhaps Jagger etc feel the need to express that they are not.
