plus

The Cure (although I like much more of their output than just the singles)

Pulp

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Supergrass

breastfuck

No you're wrong.

The Beatles were SHIT and they wrote Maxwell's Silver Hammer so you're WRONG.

Was "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" a single? No.

You momo.

Also, you're clearly Grockle in disguise.

Sorry

The Smiths
The Beatles
Pet Shop Boys

Madness

...

Buzzcocks
Helen Love

Westlife

ABBA

Right, I'll stop

The Winner Takes it all

came on in a shop yesterday. I enjoyed it.

The Clash

The stones
Foo Fighters (fo real)

Blur,

New Order and Field Music, who are shaping up to be a great singles band.

didn't you have a paddy

at someone a while back for suggesting the buzzcocks might be a singles band?

the

Cure
The Clash
New Order
the Manics

Dawn of the Replicants

...

New Order
Ash

...

The Jam

Depeche Mode

Editors
Cooper Temple Clause
Electric Soft Parade
Funeral For A Friend
Green Day
The Killers
The White Stripes

you're so wrong about blur

bands defined as 'great singles bands' should be ones that suck at albums. and blur don't. their non single tracks > their singles. i can barely listen to the best of anymore.

I love blur lots

but besides think tank I think the best of is their most consistent album. They're the ultimate singles band.

system of a down

great singles, lots of album filler.

and

the hives

I think I disagree

with all of those. Perhaps even WS because their singles often don't stand out from their albums tracks.

I agree with a lot of these

Especially Pet Shop Boys and The Jam.

I'd also like to be the only person likely to say Inspiral Carpets. Thank you.

The Kinks

I suppose a lot of bands from that era were more about the singles.

To be fair

I wish more bands were about the singles now. This album bullshit annoys me. I want three minutes of you, not 45. I'm not ready to make that sort of commitment, damn you!

Ash

Buzzcocks
Rolling Stones

The Killers*

*although I accept that most of their singles are just two tracks continually rereleased.

All Saints

Never Ever is a classic pop single (and Rock Steady is OK-ish)

and Johnny Boy who produced the classic You Were The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve, and then got dropped by their record label ...

The Kinks ...

were a GREAT album band - Village Green Preservation Society is a classic and Muswell Hillbillies is fab too

Shed Seven

WINNER

Damn right

Pulp!

er...!!!

All saints that is a wind up right?
The Who
The Clash
T-Rex

Never Gonna nahnah nah nah nah

Nah Nahnahnah nah you got me feelin really baaaad

No!

All Saints isn't a wind up!

Never Ever really is a great pop tune - you can dance to it, sing along tunelessly at the top of your voice and they made the Spice Girls look like the talentless no-marks they were

How the hell does one dance

to Never Ever?

...

like a drunken geography teacher at the sixth form disco

Les Savy Fav

always wanted to just be a singles band

Roy Orbison

Good question that too.

Roy or Bison?

Bison every time for me.

The Glory

The Feeling have released bare good singles.
The Bluetones. Ash. Chili Peppers. Suede. Athlete. Lostprophets

Sugababes!

White Stripes

I've always been disapointed whenever I've listened to one of their albums, despite all that critical acclaim.

Thom_fa

I'm thinking:

HI DUDE! ITS BEEN TO LONG!

Blondie

Coldplay
Muse

???

I don't think it is at all

and if it is he needs to pst a new picture!

Prince.

Micheal Jackson.

Ash!

Ash were the first band that came to mind.

Does your definition of "great singles bands" refer to bands who release great songs but not great albums?

10 great singles bands

Madness
Smiths
New Order
Sugababes
Pulp
Fall
Blur
Divine Comedy
Girls Aloud
Art Brut

The Small Faces

...hey guywithnousername...hope you sorted the hi-maintenance girl out.

Cheers nicster.

It resolved itself - she met someone at the Hundred Handed/Friends of the Bride gig at the Luminaire the other week and now she's much happier.

Which at least now means I've just got my own love life to worry about!

goooood!!!

I'll leave you to worry about your own love life - mine's too up and down to warrant discussion where everyone can see it as well! Going for a long walk now - at my parents by the sea. Have a good Sunday. Nic x

Supergrass

The Strokes

and the libertines- i know i know there's no hope for me.......

Great singles and album bands!

The Killers
Lorraine (I've heard a few of their future singles on an albumsampler = ace!)
Keane
Coldplay
New Order

the divine comedy WERE a good singles band.

Then they released 'Diva Lady' instead of 'To Die A Virgin'.

Fuckers.

I go with the Cure, if only because I love 'Friday I'm in Love', but that Bloodflowers album was so wank I got stares off my girlfriend for saying so.

so wrong

about s&g
the whole bridge over troubled water album is immensly good. every track.

Do we mean

bands who put out great singles but disappointing albums? In that case I'd say off the top of my head

Pulp
Outkast
Pet Shop Boys

And obviously most "Pop" bands. I don't understand people saying The Smiths.

The Fall aren't a fucking singles band

Look up 'albums band' in the dictionary, and there will be a picture of MES.

The Jam and the Clash spring to mind more than anyone else, really..
