Oasis should have realised that booking Babyshambles for a support slot on their tour was a disastrous idea long before the singer failed to show up for the gig - because he was at a party. Noel Gallagher should simply have glanced at the title of the band’s next release. The man that penned ‘Live Forever’, should have picked up on the fact that Doherty might not be on the same wavelength, particularly when it comes to matters of eternity. Or, more crucially, he should have pressed play on the stereo.

During the sessions for this track, Babyshambles might as well have taken a collective sh*t in the studio, hit record and buggered off for three minutes. Perhaps then we wouldn’t have to put up with the boring, blathering whine of Pete Moss and “friends”. For starters, what a f**king terrible vocal. The Doherty slur that once was an integral part of The Libertines’ knack for clever phrasing (see ‘Time For Heroes’) has morphed into a lazy, eyeball rolling, can’t be bothered, waste of larynx. Based around a third rate schm-indie guitar mess, ‘F**k Forever’ is atrocious.

He asks “How d’you choose between death and glory?”. Interestingly it was Mick Jones – this record’s producer – who provided the drive behind The Clash’s exaltation that without true integrity, all this boho-punk, lost boy posturing amounts to nothing - “Death and glory is just another story” Jones and Strummer sang. And just in case you’re thinking FF sounds dirty, riotous, even poetic, I can assure it’s not. There’s no venom, there’s no edge, just wafer thin blandness. The b-side is entitled ‘Monkey Casino’ and this is the disc’s only saving grace because if you think about it, no matter what the song sounds like (it’s dire) the image of a Monkey Casino is innately funny. If ‘F**k Forever’ is a sonic precursor (and let’s hope it’s not) to Babyshambles’ full length album - expected sometime before 2015 - then God help iPods across the land.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

You mean it's not the most important track since Teen Spirit, as the NME tried to make us believe a couple of months back?

:-)

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Is that true?

Jesus.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

This song is pretty terrible.

The Libertines were a good band, Killamanjiro was a good single, I probably would of bought this the first day it came it if it had been alright, but it's just shit and now I'm not really intrested in this band or their album either.

Plenty of other good bands to listen to.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

A truly terrible mess, Mick Jones, a man *so bored with the USA* that the Clash quickly decided to, er, decamp there and earn megadollar. Sadly, this is a doomed attempt to feed MJ's retirement piggybank whilst defacating in the eardrums of the nations youth.

Babyshambles - S**t Forever

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

The b-side is entitled ‘Monkey Casino’ and this is the disc’s only saving grace because if you think about it, no matter what the song sounds like (it’s dire) the image of a Monkey Casino is innately funny.

Oh, this makes me smile :D

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

SHAME ON ROUGH TRADE

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Shame... The acoustic version of this that was leaked many many moons ago with about one thousand other half finished demos sounded like it could have been a classic, despite the dodgy sound quality...

Unfortunately I have to agree, it's a dirgey mess of a single...

I'm probably stupid but I'm still gonna wait for the album before I make my mind up as I saw them in Manchester last September and thought they were fantastic. I also saw them at the infamous Blackpool gig in November but the less said about that the better I think...

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

That should have read "the infamous Blackpool gig in DECEMBER" - my bad...

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

'The man that penned ‘Live Forever’, should have picked up on the fact that Doherty might not be on the same wavelength'

'...Maybe I don't wanna live forever'

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

yeah from knowing people who are babyshambles "fans" - as in those people who know all the words to all the babyshambles songs through the demos, it seemed that this song was their BEST SONG!

after hearing it, i think not.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

i know that it i considereds innately uncool to like them, but i quite like this.

that is all.

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

It's not uncool. I'd LOVE for them to be as good the NME tells us. It's just getting tiresome that someone who has made one and a half decent records is now doing nothing of note except letting people down, yet still getting all the coverage that could be given to good new and existing bands.

Maybe if he was starved of the oxygen of publicity which I think he feeds off, he would actually sort himself out, leading to him making stuff worthy of publicity again. Like, say, an album.

The NME did it again last week, with the news of their 'comeback' surprise gig in Stoke, and how this meant everything was great again. A pity that 1500 people in Bristol held tickets for a gig that night that had been 'postponed' a while back...

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

haha funny you should mention that, but i was mightily relieved that Bristol gig was off cos it meant i couldn't be dragged along by a mate that wanted to go and he still got his money back on the tickets.

i don't hate the guy, but as with everyone else i'm severely bored of the media freakshow that seems to accompany him everwhere.

as for the NME, they need to sit down and watch Life of Brian. Then they'll see that he's not the messiah, he's just a very naughty boy.

but yeah, all i meant was i think 'Fuck Forever' is alright; i quite like it.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

i just get the feeling that this band are taking the piss out of people who want to like them.

its quite funny really

they really are poor.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

gord bless you, ross.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

The Libertines have done one song that I can remember 'Don't Look Back Into the Sun'. It's alright, nice attitude, if a little crap at the edges. Sometimes I wonder if someone's removed five years of reality from my world, and during that five years the Libertines were an epoch making wild international phenomenon, because that might go some way to understanding why they are referred to with the reverence reserved for legends, and why Pete Cockerty is revered as some Cobain in the making.

Of course, that wasn't the case. I can't remember the myriad of memorable tunes and epoch making albums because there weren't any, and there is no greater symptom of the NME's awful repetitive habit of worshipping it's own arsehole than Pete Docherty's persistent glorification.

The Babyshambles are dogshit. It's not big, clever, cool or funny, and it strikes me that if weren't for his girlfriend he wouldn't have remained in the public eye at all...the male version of Posh Spice??? Why the f**k did this tit get on the Live8 bill...was it some conspiracy to embarass Elton?

(or maybe I WAS abducted by aliens for a few years)

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

The thing is, there was a live version of this recorded on Zane Lowe quite a while back and it really was quite good.

The same thing happened with the second Libertines album, Mick Jones tries to re-produce that kind of erratic urgency of Up The Bracket and the end result is a dire, pitiful mess.

As many of you may hate to hear this, this song COULD have been great. But yes, as it stands it is an absolute pile of wank

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

I downloaded all of the Babyshambles demos. The only good ones were the Coral covers.

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Hmm The Coral covers as in 'Dreaming Of You' which Doherty wrote for them?

Anyway, Fuck Forever: I first downloaded it as a session for Zane Lowe in October and I did like it quite a lot and still do. I really really dislike the single version though. It's just awful.

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

HAHA!...oh wait shit you're only jokin aren't ya? please tell me you are. you really shouldnt believe EVERYTHING you hear or read y'know.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Great review. The song is crap. What was Mick Jones thinking? Must have been as stoned as Dohrety.

Pete Doherty makes crap record.

Queen Mum still dead.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Agreed with those who said the potential was there for a great song; the early demos/live performances of Fuck Forever were fantastic, i remember seeing them at the Manchester Ritz last year and thinking that it was a song that could end up defining the year.

Unfortunately, this makes it all the more disappointing that this has turned out as it has; a shambolic, soulless, steaming turd of a record. It sounds so half-arsed its untrue, and has lost the anthemic quality that was prevailent in the earlier versions. The vocals are all over the place, and it does not bode well for the album.

Doherty needs to pull himself together and stop insulting us with this shite. And how often have we heard that said?

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

i am not fussed about the song - but i have seen them live tweice now both were absolutely incredible gigs, i love the libertines stuff, i love the babyshambles sessions stuff, but im beginning to dislike the man himself.
to disregard his fans and lie to them - cancelling gigs, noshows, saying he is coming off the drugs when he isnt - its stupid. he needs to grow up and sort himself out.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

It's not a bad song, I do quite like it, but it's nothing compared to some of The Libertines stuff.

Pete really needs to sort himself out though, postponing a whole tour to "work on the album" was not a smart move. Some of his biggest fans have and are losing faith in him. Would it not seem like a better idea to tour, show us what he can do and maybe even gain a little respect back? It'd boost his album sales at least, that's for sure.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

doherty has the potential to do so much, but he has, as he put it himself " pissed it all up the wall ". he can turn it around though, and i hope he does. not to prove anything to the people who needlessly put him down at any given opportunity, but for my personal satisfaction at having some more joy to hold in my hands and listen to. See this thread and any other thread about pete doherty, where the people who wish he'd dissapear and never be mentioned again, fuel the endless debates about him... I find it hilarious and it's part of the appeal. The fact he gets up so many fucking noses (he doesnt snort, so no pun intended), and pisses so many people off. a lot of this has been out of his hands. a lot of it has been brought on by himself. but at the end of the day his music has done so much for me. I hope he continues to piss you off and you continue to read reviews of his single despite the fact you hate him, you wish he'd fuck off, and you only read the single so you could make a witty remark in the comments underneath! most of all I want him to sort himself out, because he is a special kinda fella with a special kind talent, and I'd hate to see him self destruct completely...he knows where the button is.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Just listening to the song while reading the reviews. The Zane Lowe version should have been the single - as it is obvious now he couldn't better that performance. I hope in a way the single flops but it won't - probably cause all the 'new' Libertine fans have pre-ordered it.

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

The single will flop, majorly, I doubt if it will enter the top 40, in fact, I sincerely hope it doesn't. I hope it gives Doherty the kick up the arse needed so that he starts writing and recording proper songs that he's capable of . ..Death On The Stairs, Last Post On The Bugle etc... I love The Libertines, I even had a soft spot for Babyshambles but this is embarassing tripe.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

the libertines only had a few good tracks.

if i had booked him as my support and he did that id wait until he was onstage and kick shit out of him infront of the thousands of people. the cunt.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

I think it's actually not that bad, in a Pogues meets the Jam kind of way.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

All the energy and anger in the vocal that was in most of the demo versions is gone. And for god's sake someone stop Mick Jones "producing" anything else. His revered "simplistic" aprocach is getting very tiresome. He seems to have tried pressing a few buttons here and couldn't have made it much worse if he had tried.

Ultimatley the blame has to lie with Pete Docherty. It was never the best song his written but it could have made an excellent single. It's the only real athem he's written (possibly Time For Heroes), the live preformance sounds quite Oasisy.

It was said on Gonzo(that Zane Lowe programme) today that the record company had pulled the single and were getting rather fed up with Pete and Babyshambles. So it doesn't look like it will be charting anywhere.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Is in trouble again.

Stopped in Oslo customs, with drugs apparently

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Sadly Oslo customs did not find the smack, unsurprisingly, doherty did....he threw up on stage during the usual shambolic performance, cue hundreds of stupid, impressionable Norwegian teens "He issh shooo keeewl"

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Pointless twerp...

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

When he's gone, will you mourn?

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

I thought it sounded a lot like 'The Passenger' or something similar. Basically, a bit dull.

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

a load of bollocks

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

Just downloaded it to see how bad it is....fucking terrible....sounds like the sort of record a fucked up junkie who can't quite hit rock bottom and HAVE to sort himself out 'cos a load of pseudo trendy idiots worship him would make.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

jus livin off past glories. babyshambles are shite, libertines were great, and pete doherty is a talented guy but hes got to the point where hes so fucked up n gettin so much attention for his band (n not even for their music) where i just cant stand him.

fuck forever is probably gonna set the charts alight cos of all these tossers who worship the ground pete walks on, but the truth is babyshambles are a fuckin mess and dont deserve any of the media attention they get cos its basically just pete, if it was someone else, theyd b nowhere.

bands like the rakes, komakino or dogs should b gettin more media coverage

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

"If ‘F**k Forever’ is a sonic precursor (and let’s hope it’s not) to Babyshambles’ full length album"

Actually, let's hope it is. The sooner everyone realises he's shit and everything he's done is shit, and stops wasting valuable airspace on this fucktard, the better.

Hopefully he'll die of syphillis asap.

Grrrrr, nothing winds me up quite like he does.

Babyshambles - F**k Forever

F**K Forever is the best song since sid vicious released living on chinese rock. Pete is gona have films made about him within ten years, Sid & Nancy, Kurt & Courtney, Pete & Kate.

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

no he's not, he's a loser and not even in the cool way, total knob cheddington. Sid was also a self destructive little monkey but with the The sex pistols (by accident or design) drastically altered the socio-cultural fabric of the UK. Pete Doherty just smokes crack

Re: Babyshambles - F**k Forever

What an amazing song! One of the best anthems of our generation. I find it funny that so many people dislike pete doherty because "the sun" tells them too, lets face it that is why, jimi hendrix, the beatles, sid vicious, keith moon, the velvet underground, the doors, led zeppelin all did lots of drugs and you love them!
