I know all this 80s influenced stuff has been and gone but was just wondering if anyone knew of any good synth based tunes.
Been listening to a lot of early U2 like Drowning Man and (cough) Boys Of Summer by Don Henley and theres somethin about the synths that i think are pretty good
Doesn't have to be from the 80s but any shouts will be appreciated.

dfa 1979 use synths
Alphaville
If you are looking for a classic synth band, look no further than Alphaville. You may remember their big hits from the 80's ~ Forever Young & Big in Japan. Most people forgot about them after that but they've continued to put out some of the best synth CDs around. I highly recommend PROSTITUTE (1994) or SALVATION (1998).
And.. if you like Alphaville, I also suggest you check out IRIS's CD called WRATH (2005).
Faith No More
