And I bet they start with Mahmood as well. I could kill them sometimes. Every decision coming up to this series has been wrong.

wut?

mouldycherryx likes cricket?

cricket cracks me up...

do they have to really call it a sport?

what is athletic about standing around and drinking pimms?

i dunno...

it's only 360 degree baseball

with more artful shots.

I don't see why Americans have a problem with it. I like both.

i'd love to see you play it

it would be hilarious

ah.

you're a cock.

i'm guessing

this is a Pigfoot post.

Actually I sort of agree with this decision. For me, Read has never once proved his worth in the England side, and Jones has the Ashes experience that could make all the difference.

That article seems to suggest that Anderson is ahead of Mahmood in the pecking order, which is definitely a good thing.

I don't really care about the keeper

They seem equally good for me. Jones has scored matchwinning innings and taken matchwinning catches before. Read has been more efficient than Jones behind the stumps but not really with the bat - when's the county form going to be translated into runs for England?

However, IF FLETCHER DOES NOT PICK PANESAR I WILL SEND HIM POO THROUGH THE POST.

Panesar is the one man in that squad

who will have the biggest influence if we win the Ashes.

FACT.

Yeah, sorry. It's me.

Read has proved time and time again that he is the best keeper in the country by absolutely miles. He's also got a MUCH better temperament. This decision has really fucked me off. If we'd gone into this series with Strauss as captain and Read as keeper, I'd fancy us to win. As it is, not much chance. And I bet they do something ridiculous like dropping Panesar too.

who cares?

whilst I dispute the claim about Read's temperament

do you remember the awful time when Jones tried to slog Warne for six at Trent Bridge in the Ashes, and spooned it to mid-off?

I wouldn't trust either player's temperament. I'd actually have picked Steven Davies of Worcestershire to go to India.

Anyway, I still don't care about the keeping issue. What I do care about is Fletcher's apparent total inflexibility. He's got his bubble of 11 or 12 players and won't look outside it. Panesar has proved himself to be the best left-arm spinner in the world in 2006, and yet Fletcher casts doubt on him because he's not in the clique. Giles is in, Jones is in... regardless of results or injury, Fletcher seems to be very stuck in his ways.

Whilst I wouldn't back Geoffrey Boycott's calls for him to go now I certainly want to see the back of him if (and when) we lose the World Cup.

I am surprised by this

Chris Read must be so disappointed. He hasn't exactly done badly in the test matches he played. I don't think his Champions Trophy form should come into it.

I hope they pick Anderson ahead of Mahmood and that seems to be the way they are going. If Panesar doesn't play as first choice spinner then Fletcher is mental.

I hate to say it, but I think

Fletcher may well go for Giles and Mahmood instead of Anderson and Panesar.

Just cos I think he'll be too scared to play Panesar, Anderson, Hoggard and Harmison in the same team.

If Mahmood plays, we will die.

Also, I agree 100% about champion's trophy form being irrelevant. Completely unfair to the guy, who looked a class act at the end of the summer and deserves his chance far more than Jones, who consistently lets us down.

-=SIGH=-

hmmarooney

me:

1. Tres
2. Strauss
3. Cook
4. Bell
5. Pietersen
6. Flintoff
7. Fuck knows
8. Giles
9. Hoggard
10. Harmison
11. Panesar

TWO SPINNERS. DEATH TO THOSE WHO DISAGREE

on the basis of

giles can bat and did well in the last ashes series.

neither anderson nor mahmood can be trusted to do the same.

panesar can.

THERE YOU GO

How

I wish Simon Jones was fit.

he is!

he is?

where is he?

Were Flintoff fully fit...

1. Tres
2. Strauss
3. Cook.
4. Pietersen
5. Collingwood
6. Bell
7. Flintoff
8. Read
9. Harmison
10. Hoggard
11. Panesar

As he's not... tough.

1. Tres
2. Strauss
3. Cook
4. Pietersen
5. Bell
6. Flintoff
7. Read
8. Harmison
9. Hoggard
10. Anderson
11. Panesar

I think we'd probably do better without Fred in the side in many ways, but he's the captain.

The Jones/Read situation

has been totally fucked up. The time to drop Jones was the start of the summer or at the latest at the start of the Pakistan series. This would hvae given Read the chance to show his improvement. Everyone knows what Jones can and can't do, plus it would of allowed him to get some runs under his belt in county cricket. Alas, this didn't happen and Read was given no time at all. Fletcher blatantly doesn't rate Read, and seemingly bowed to media/selector pressure in selecting him.

As for Panesar - I can't seem a left arm finger spinner taking that many wickets on Australian pitches, so for his far superior batting and fielding I say Giles.

Daniel Vettori

has taken 23 wickets in his last four tests in Australia. I think Panesar is a better bowler than Vettori.

Panesar

is the best left-arm spinner IN THE WORLD.

We can't leave him out. I've seen Vettori bowl. He looked pedestrian. Panesar isn't. His first Test Wicket was Tendulkar and he can dismiss good batsmen with good bowling.

He is also not a complete muppet with the bat: he swept Murali for six, remember.

I was THERE!

It was awesome. He is the best spinner we've had in many years. He must play. If he doesn't, I'm flying out there and pissing all over Fletcher, Graveney and Flintoff.

I saw Tufnell skittle the Aussies.

Panesar is the only spinner we've had who has the potential to do that to teams. The difference with Panesar is that he isn't a difficult, mardy, emotionally challenged wimp.

Yes

Tufnell was great, but Panesar is a different class.

Thank christ Fletcher doesn't have ultimate influence over the team.

If he did we'd have Giles at 3,5,7,8,9 and 10 and Yardy at 1,2,4,6 and 11.

Yardy's a really good one day player, imo

Best one-day spinner we have. And Giles is a very very good one-day spinner.

Neither should be in the test side, though.

i like yardy and his crablike ways

but he does epitomise fletcher's approach.

hey! if fletcher had been coach in 1985 kim barnett would have been an england LEGEND

peter willey also. barnett 1, yardy 2, willey 3, chanderpaul 4. now THAT'S a batting order.

Yeah, but I mean...

it was worse under Lloyd. The no-hopers that got in the side back then. Cringeworthy.

i can't even remember the leading lights of the lloyd era

a quick shufty back to cricinfo will tell me.

ROBERT CROFT!!! ahahahahahahaha.

i always thought robert croft

looked like a weirdly impacted version of mike atherton.

*batsman
