Completely generic thread, but was listening to the wonderful Sao Paulo by Guillemots earlier and was wondering what peoples' favourite final tracks on albums were:

Jungleland (Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen)
Water (Dry - PJ Harvey)
PS You Rock My World (Electroshock Blues - Eels)
Street Spirit (The Bends - Radiohead)
Motion Picture Soundtrack (Kid A - Radiohead)
Empty Cans (A Grand Don't Come For Free - The Streets)
Only In Dreams (Weezer - Weezer)

Only in dreams

Spot on.

SFA are good at closing tracks.

Slow Life, Mountain People, Cabin Fever, Keep the Cosmic Trigger Happy, Fragile Happiness, For Now and Ever and Blerwiytirhwng. Reads like a better best of.

only in dreams

best ender ever? definitely up there in a top 3.

erm

Now The Action Is On Fire from The Vertigo Of Bliss by Biffy Clyro.

Wolf At The Door from Hail To Tne Thief by Radiohead

Sunrise from We Love Life by Pulp.

Looking Glass from The La's.

Knights Of Cydonia from Black Holes And Revelations by Muse.

I Am The Resurrection from The Stone Roses.

The Outsiders from You Could Have It So Much Better by Franz Ferdinand.

Only In Dreams is by far my favourite.

And loads of others.

The Veils - The Nowhere Man
David Thomas Broughton - Ever Rotating Sky
Joanna Newsom - Ys

Ys?

Cosmia*

................

Crazy Woman, Dirty Train (Easter - These Arms Are Snakes)

take the veil cerpin taxt - the mars volta: de loused

If you dont count that boring uk only track as the last one

YES!, yes_

that ending is so great. gets me every time.

trail of dead - source tags & codes

brand new - soco amaretto lime
bright eyes - let's not shit ourselves
dismemberment plan - back and forth
the national - mr november

I think

Autumn's here (lover/ fighter-Hawksley Workman) is rather good.

On Only in Dreams

Glad to see people agreeing, I think that's the song that really lifts Weezer's debut (as good as all the songs are) into the category of 'bloody fantastic'

Only in Dreams

great choice indeed. Two spring to mind for me;

Gouge Away on Doolittle

Street Spirit on The Bends

butterfly - weezer

a song to pass the time - bright eyes (my favourite ever song)
we were born mutants again with leafling - of Montreal

really?

that's probably my least favourite song on Fevers and Mirrors!

listen to it more

I didn't like it at first it took a while but now I love it, and the lyrics are close to perfect

Close To?

They are.

I still think I prefer all his other closers actually (except for Tereza and Thomas), despite Fevers being my favourite album.

i'm listening to it now

it's not as boring as I remember it being, in fact it's quite nice, but I still think if the album had ended before the radio interview it would have been better. An Attempt To Tip The Scales is just gorgeous and would be a perfect closer I think.

Converge - Jane Doe

Isis - Grinning Mouths
Cult Of Luna - Dark City Dead Man
PGMG - Bullet Charm
Oceansize - Ornament/The Last Wrongs
volcano! - Pulling my face in and out of distortion....

...

A Will Remains In The Ashes by Envy. Owns everything on this thread for closing an album. It's just so totally and completely final. And I am a conisseur of closing tracks.

Also good - Sum by Meshuggah. Brutal and menacingly relaxing at the same time. Good closer.

Wherever I Lay My Head by Tom Waits - good.

The last few tracks on Trail Of Dead's Source Tags and Codes. That's gotta count.

The Rutherford Experient by Candiria. Smooth as Jazz, violent as Metal.

Now The Action Is On Fire!!

Sigh Your Children.
Breath Again.
Ornament/The Last Wrongs.
Only In Dreams.
Find The River.
Soco Amaretto Lime.
Play Crack The Sky.
Blue In The Face.
23.
Beachball.

Loque wins so far.

:D

California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade

Stormy Clouds (Reprise)

Stormy Clouds (Reprise) -

Some personal faves......

off the top of my head.

Joy Division - Decades (Closer)
Mountain People - SFA (Radiator)
Motion Picture Soundtrack - Radiohead (Kid A)
Sweeet Lil Gal - Ryan Adams (Heartbreaker)
Let's Not Shit Ourselves - Bright Eyes (Lifted - good call whoever put that!)
A Distorted Reality.... - Elliott Smith (Basement)

With the Elliott Smith one, whilst it's probably bad to link the songs with what happened to him after the recording, it's hard to listen to him fading out singing "Shine on me baby, cos it's raining in my heart", knowing it's his last statement, without feeling an overwhelming sadness.....

A few...

Beck - Emergency Exit - from Guero
The Mules - Ham Shank - from Save Your Face
Dangerdoom - Bada Bing - from Mouse and the mask

well appart from those mentioned...

i really enjoyed "Two Tabs of Mescaline" off Glassjaws worship and tribute this morning. also even though it was a cover, "Planet Caravan" ends Vulgar display of power fantasticly.
"Blow Out" from pablo honey is also a good outro song.
"Cassandra Gemini" while not as good as take the veil is still awesome.

What the...!

Almost 18 hours this thread's been up, and no one's mentioned Good Morning, Captain (Slint's Spiderland), Soon (My Bloody Valentine's Loveless) or any of the sweet Sufjan Stevens closers yet.

Bah! You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Play Crack the Sky

by Brand New

We Are A Black Box Recorders - Copperpot Journals.

He Collects Dust - Seafood

Good call on Bright Eyes.

What people are made of

of The Moon and Antarctica .
What a way to close an album.

...

That's cause it's a boring, atmosphereless dirge, like the rest of the album.

You on about

what people are made of stealthy?

...

Slint, Spiderland and Good Morning Captain.

I've decided to stop pretending that I just don't get a 'classic' album and admit to myself that no, it's actually just shit.

ahhhh

fair enough then.
I've not heard em so I couldn't comment.

Philistines!

Ignore these people, Glen_Chap. They haven't a clue between them.

Come to the side of light, righteousness and unnecessary shouting about naval matters (despite living in landlocked Kentucky...)

I agree

can't get into it at all

and for the record

Sister Ray on White Light/White Heat or Say Yes on Either/Or

Someone above mentioned Yesterday Never Tomorrows

I am really kicking myself for forgeting that track. Logic Will Break Your Heart and so will that song, it's so sad. Best thing The Stills have every done.

hmmm

Radiohead - Motion Picture Soundtrack
