No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

Promising punk sorts Sparks Lights And Flames have gone the way of Million Dead and announced their break up.

The following is taken directly from I Spy PR's mail out.

"Ok, well... where to begin? These things are never easy. Possibly harder than ending a relationship. How do you tell countless people it's over when telling one is almost impossible?

"I think, from the first few lines you all know what is coming. But the long and the short of it is that Sparks Lights and Flames no longer exists as a musical entity. It still, however, floats freely in our hearts, and nestles among our fondest memories. Excuse the pretention but the truth is the most important element of our lives has irrevocably changed and then ceased to exist. Apart from the all too short audio document some of you own...

"Firstly thank you to all of you for your support and love over the last 15 months, the most incredible 15 months of our lives. Thank you to Kev BSM who not only has become a friend but also a constant inspiration. We can't think of a more decent, hardworking genuine person in the 'industry'. Thank you to all the bands we havve toured with or played one-offs with. Thank you to all the people who let us sleep in their houses and drink their coffee. Writing this is actually one of the hardest parts of the whole thing - so final, like laying a loved one to rest.

"Please don't feel any ill will towards us, it just simply wasn't working anymore, and we couldn't lie to you. We also further more couldn't lie to ourselves.

"In the immortal words of Mr Thomas Gale: 'If you love us we love you, if you hate us we love you'.

"With the most profound sincerity, thank you again.

Marc, Dave, Tom and Tim (Sparks Lights and Flames)"

DiScuss: Right, who's next? Biffy? Franz? A big hitter or an underground act full of potential: place your bets now.

No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

Their album was fucking brilliant as well. Boooooooooo.

Re: No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

Yeah I liked the album as well, this sucks! What the hell is with bands splitting up now? It seems like they have all been saving up the time and releasing break-ups all at once. Hey, good theme for next mixtape, good bands that have split.

Re: No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

It's September alright, 'tis the saddest month. I'm even sadder though that Trail of Dead haven't announced they're splitting up.

For a minute there i thought it was the 70s glamrock band SPARKS who were splitting, thank God it ain't.

No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

Man, i only saw then the once and that was without a singer, but they were still fantastic.
Gutted, i was hoping to see them again too.

No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

hot snakes,
cars as weapons,
million dead,
sparks lights and flames...fuckin fuck.
don't joke about Biffy! As far as I'm aware they're one of the few remaining underground bands who are full-time.

Re: No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

Cars as weapons have split? Fuck.

Don't forget RFTC to add to the split list.

No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

Please. Not Biffy.

But Franz are welcome to split!

Re: No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

Nooooo don't let Franz split now!

If they did they'd forever be held up as a "classic" band that never achieved it's full potential... or something like that. Far better to let them release a few more records which get critically slammed (possibly the 2nd, certainly the 3rd) and commercially ignored (ok, we'll definitely have to wait til at least the 3rd for this) and the whole world will just forget they existed.
And then my plans for world domination will be complete... Ahem.

No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: an

"Sparks Lights and Flames go up in smoke"

for once i do believe i've outdone dis in the headline department.

No Sparks, few Lights, and certainly no Flames: another band breaks up

Fucking hell, what a week!

These guys were ace too...

Yeah, lets see Franz go. And Coldplay. And Athlete. And Biffy. All of them. Let's cease the lazy lazy nature of the industry and get some proper bands out there, singing real tunes of hope. Lets split the industry wide open, from a capitalist, globalised economy, into something althogether richer, and more socialist. Instead of one average band against another average band in those little talent contests rudely disguised as 'London showcases', lets have the industry spread across the country, in the hills and in the suburbs, seeking out the REAL music.
