To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?

Weezer, whose Shakespeare-quoting liner notes to last album Make Believe hinted at an imminent disbanding, have told MTV that they may well go their separate ways sooner rather than later. Guitarist Brian Bell told the channel:
"We have no idea if we're going to be a band next year... We have these dark periods where we don't know if we're even going to be a band anymore."
DiScuss: Will they ever write an album as perfect as Pinkerton anyway?

To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: pop-rockers to split?
if they did keep going, they'd only continue to churn out utter crap. they should've split up in '97. -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
i caught them in birmingham and Rivers didn't look the least bit arsed.
but then, i hear a lot of stories about how he's like that all the time.
clearly i don't know enough about weezer to be speculating on their future. -

YaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaY -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
There's nothing worth discovering in their work after Pinkerton to be honest. Rivers lost it. There's a few demos i heard, 'hey domingo' or asoemthing like that which was great, shame the lps turn out the same every time.
It's like chug chug chug powerchords in evry song now, wheres the intersting lead guitar gone from songs like 'surf wax america'?.
If they die, least we won't hear anymore of the crap they put out now.-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
Exactly. Everything since Pinkerton has been formulaic and dull, and Rivers' lyrics have gone seriously downhill too. It's frustrating how a band can go from making such an incredible album as Pinkerton to knocking out half-arsed power-chord-athons like Make Believe.

^^^^ LIES ^^^^-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
you once said pinkerton is the gayest album ever.
Make Believe is underated, Perfect Situation and Hold Me are as good as the Blue Album, obviously not as good as pinkerton as that is the greatest album ever made. -

Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
OMG.
I just realised I'm wearing a Weezer t-shirt...
...is this my fault?-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
That, and the last album as well. -
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
Well do you dress yourself?

To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
i thought maladroit was pretty good, actually.-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
I think maladroit is the worst album. Make Believe is very under-rated and Green album is still pretty decent.
If they were to split I would be very upset indeed.
One of my favourite bands and all that... and i still haven't seen them. :(

To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
maladroit was ok,
but beverley hills is the biggest sack of shit ive ever heard.. -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
I quite like maladroit too. -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
The first three albums were excellent (Green is SO underrated). Maladroit was pretty good too. Make Believe has a decent first half but gets all generic and lame at the end.
I still think they have good albums in them.-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
But doesn't it annoy you that EVERY song on the green album has a guitar solo that mimics the vocal melody in it - the predictability does my head in!-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
I agree with IanJ on the guitar solos and vocal melodeees on the Green album. Dull dull dull.
I put Green on the other month and hated it. I quite like the Blue album but Pinkerton and Maladroit have never even been played despite my owning them.
Is Maladroit really worth me giving a go as you chaps suggest?

To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
This is nothing new. They've simply said they've made no concrete plans beyond this album. While it looks like they COULD split, it's no more or less likely than it was in May.
Incidentally, Weezer have apparently completely overhauled their show this last couple of months and Rivers is apparently running about quite a lot... sounds interesting. They were always pretty static before. -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
awww oh well. -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
Pinkerton's probably my most favourite album ever. Not just of Weezer's but like ever!
Eveeerrryoone's a littllleeeee queer, oh can't she be a little straight?
When they played Reading a few years ago t'was all types of amazing.
If they split, at lease they done it now. They're a shadow of their former selves. -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
Not that bothered really, Blue album was good, Pinkerton was better, have'nt got the green one. Got Maladroit for £5 in fopp, listened to it once. It now gathers dust like HR 2nd album. Gone off them a bit. -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
HR's second album was shit. If you go on their site though you can download a promising new song called "no pretending" -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
At the end of the Edinburgh gig in August Rivers said something along the lines of "we might never come back here"- I can't remember what it was exactly... -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
Green is the worst album. Once you hear 'Don't Let Go' and 'Photograph', you've heard the album. I really like 'Maladroit' and a lot of 'Make Believe', though.
And Rivers is indeed no longer static. There was balcony solo songs and everything. -

i'm buying some new headphones off amazon and need to spend a little more to get free shipping.
which should i buy - bearing in mind both are priced at a delectable £6.97?
1. psychocandy
2. pinterton
questions questions...-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
arghh, or seven swans, or the comic book 'clumsy' by jeffrey brown?-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
Pinkerton as its the greatest album ever, every second you dont own it is a wasted second, I got clumsy and never finished it so it cant be good (but didnt stop me getting the follow up 'unlikely' which ive also not read)-
Re: To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
update: i bought both psychocandy and pinkerton, as i'm that kind of guy. oooh baby, excited for delivery already!

To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
I SOOOOOO hope they do at least one more UK tour before they do split. For varying reasons I've always managed to miss them and I FINALLY got myself tickets to see them at the Academy in Manchester in August and then they go reschedule the date by putting it back by 2 days meaning I couldn't go as that was the same day I was off to Leeds festival. BOOOOOO...
I read a review of the show on the BBC Manchester site and almost cried - sounded SO good...
*sniff*
I'm gonna go cry into my cup of coffee now -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
They should split they have peaked... right after they visit brussels.. -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
I saw them a few months ago in Glasgow and they were brilliant. Opened with "Tired of Sex" and that just set the tone, loved it. Although Make Believe is utter pish, wouldn't mind if they kept touring. And if they didn't make a new album until they can write songs as good as those on Pinkerton and Blue (probably never). -
To w'eeze or not to w'eeze: Weezer to split?
Nooooooooo....
If they split, I'll die. I've loved everything they've ever done INCLUDING Make Believe.
BLUE is BETTER than Pinkerton.
DAMMIT.-

Damn straight! I second your entire comment. Good on you sir! -
