CBGB to Nevada?

New York punk club CBGB could move to Las Vegas, according to owner Hilly Kristal.

The venue has been fighting with its landlord, homeless charity Bowery Residents' Committee, to renew its lease, which expired at the end of August.

Kristal said that moving to Nevada was one option for the establishment.

“They’re courting me in Las Vegas. Ten or twenty years ago it wasn’t so cool. But now Vegas isn’t a bad idea. There’s a population of over one million people. And now there’s a lot of rock ‘n’ roll [in Vegas], maybe not on the Strip,” he told DiS at the CMJ music marathon in New York.

“Now things are done for money, more than they should be,” he added.

Well, Las Vegas is still shite. But the bright lights are quite nice...but still shite. Just cos there's a Hard Rock Cafe and Brittney might show up for a massage once in a while doesn't mean it's rock 'n roll. Vegas is shite. Except for the dancing girls. It could never be the same. Although I do have fond memories of a hooker I met there. But no! Vegas is shite. Wayne Newton stills plays there. Danke Shane sucks.

On a happier note, I saw this CBGB's coffee table book with loads of cool old photos today. I might buy it. If I had a coffee table I'd have definately bought it. Black and white photos of Debbie Harry and the Ramones and Television and David Byrne and X-Ray Specs and gads more. Nice.

the website claim it does but a lot of people say they built a huge shopping centre in the location the venue was when the beatles played there.

Fuck it CBGB was a time and place - now it is just a place... Same as the Cavern, The Marquee, The Hacienda...

It isn't serving up the next Ramones anymore - just cover bands, old timers and wannabies

Shut it down / move it to Las Vegas it doesn't really matter any more...
