Derby's Victoria Inn threatened with closure

It saddens DiS to hear that Derby's excellent Victoria Inn venue is being threatened with closure.

A plan by the local council to improve the area around the city's railway station - the City Centre Eastern Fringes Area Action Plan - if given the go-ahead, would see the venue close, along with a number of other shops.

Full details, and petition information, is available at this site. If you're local - or even if you're not - do have a look and help save one of the country's better small venues. Upcoming gigs (details available from the same site) include shows from 65daysofstatic, Adequate 7 and The Fight.

Sad to hear that. The Vic is one of the best little venues in the East Midlands and over the past few years has put some awesome shows on.
It doesn't surprise me though as there's a lot of wasteland around there just waiting for Mr Property Developer to buy off the council and build some plush executive flats on...

It is an excellent little venue with a lot of character - I especially have some excellent memories in that place - the '98 Derby Punx Picnic being one.

Dr drakes earlier this year - then CBGBs - now the Vic Inn - what next..?

It is very sad that Derby Shitty Council are even CONSIDERING pulling down The Vic. So many good bands have been spawned there, so many great gigs & many, many memories.............

In fact, there should be a blue plaque erected" Lightyear woz here".

The Vic gives young Derby bands an opportunity to play, just to their mates when their starting out, then with touring bands as they start to come on - I'd feel like I'd lost my favourite uncle if that place closed down...

Where else is there good to play in Derby these days? I hear that Ponce do good work.
