Brigade: Made To Wreck EP
by Stu ChownJoining that rock middle-ground between underground 'scene' and fashionable 'it' bands - currently occupied by the likes of Biffy Clyro and Jetplane Landing, amongst others - Anglo-Japanese quartet Brigade are, on paper, a record label's dream - "enormous soundscape epics" and "sometimes earth-shattering".
In reality, they're not quite as groundbreaking as they sound, but are nonetheless an excellent proposition. Title track 'Made To Wreck' is thunderous in delivery, propelled along by a wall-breaking riff which, one would like to think, gave the song its title. Interspersing hook-filled choruses with angelic breakdowns ('Meet Me At My Funeral'), or riff-heavy sections with slow-burning build-ups ('Safe Hands'), it's clear Brigade are a band focused on the craft of songwriting, rather than filling their debut with guitar histrionics or a time change too many.
With such an emphasis on the songs themselves, Brigade aren't going to be one-hit wonders or flavour-of-the-week, but rather a band whose steady momentum could easily lead to great things. Such clarity and pop sensibilities are uncommon in bands upon their first release, and, with their debut LP pencilled in for early 2006, hopefully there's more to come.

Brigade - Made To Wreck EP
I was surprised by how good this was, seeing as they've been touring with Fightstar. Compared to the other "emo/post-hardcore" coming out from Britland this year apart from the Million Dead album, this is great. -
Brigade - Made To Wreck EP
I like this. Brigade make me smile, so that cant be a bad thing. Safe Hands is a great rock song, good luck to em! -
Brigade - Made To Wreck EP
Saw them at Water Rats, thought they were excellent, there's actually some musical talent in the Simpson family! Fuckin shitty Fightstar, fucking shitty Busted, but good Brigade! -

Re: Brigade - Made To Wreck EP
to be fair, the phrase 'anglo-japanese' and the mention of Jetplane Landing and Biffy Clyro are the only similarities, you even say they sound like jetplane landing, he doesn't..divers review of their demo (same songs) from ages ago is actually better than both anyway. -
Re: Brigade - Made To Wreck EP
you both say that the songs build up to greatness
and that they are a good young British rock band that could do well in the future
and the "Anglo-Japanese" thing
someone call the patent office
