The most consistent artists of all time

by crablin

The bands and artists who've produced a great record every time.

I'd say Radiohead, but Pablo Honey? Really?

Anyway, I think there is only one true answer to this:

Beastie Boys.

fugazi

end

Yeah, Fugazi are a really good choice

And Sonic Youth, maybe?

sonic youth

lost that claim with rather boring

fair

I love Fugazi

and well no I don't agree that they produce amazing records everytime.

Slayer

simple as that.

fair

naaaaaaah

they've had a couple of albums of utter dross

Wut Raz?......are you crazy?

which ones?

HTTT is slightly better than Pablo Honey

Pablo Honey is a bit rubbish.

lol

Well not in terms of production

but it has more great songs on it.

Hail to the Thief is AMAZING

Pablo Honey is an average indie rock album by a band who were unsure where they were going. It's ok, not a bad start but really not in the same league as The Bends, let alone HTTT.

it's hit and miss

well as hit and miss as anything Radiohead ever do, but it is pretty much just churning out a mix of the bends and Kid A. there are some stroming tracks but there is a certain I don't know what about it which is wrong.

Fair enough

you speak the troof

yes you do. Yes

The Beastie Boys

have been consistently annoying.

I can't think of one band that has produced consistently great albums without producing a less than great one but Radiohead have had a decent run. Underworld's first three albums are brilliant and Galaxie 500 were pretty consistent.

Tom Waits

Hands down - the man is a living genius...

Bollocks

he is not good at all.

Mudhoney

Delgados
Shed Seven

shed 7?

honestly

Damn straight

urgh

WOULD YOU STAAAAAY

ON STANDBY, BECAUSE I NEED ANOTHER ALIBI-I-I-I...

oh bamos

Charalambides?

Wooden Wand?
Matt Valentine?
Gangstarr?
Ghostface?
Keiji Haino?

dude

a few of those artists don't have many records, so it doesn't really count. the beasties have been amazing since 1982.

hmmm

it's all quite niche though. not that that's a bad thing, but i defy anyone to listen to any beastie boys album and not be able to draw something from it.

i'm not entirely sure of my point anymore.

i'm going to subway.

you can't bring niche in there

unless you're going to cross the line and base everything on popularity, ie chart positions

in which case...

WESTLIFE!

The Flaming Lips

Visonary record after visonary record

Arab Strap

Pavement

innit, although it's five records they're all good.

Elliott Smith

Unless you count all the Heatmiser stuff. Then maybe not.

Nirvana

I'm not joking.

oh no wait

Nick Cave! Is consistently great.

Radiohead were terrible. I thought the backlash had kicked-in anyway?

Eels

Belle & Sebastian

hmm

the last B&S was gash

Tom Waits

i'm not sure if many artists

have been very consistant at all. radiohead i'll go along with, beatles too. but most bands only make great songs. albums i find hard to listen to the whole way through most of the time. having said that i'vbe listened to the metric album 3 times today

Belle And Seb

have constanly made stuff which is listenable. It's never incredibly enjoyable best thing ever but your have to have their back catalogue in your collection.

Because they are great but not incredible great.

Every Sparklehorse

album to date has been brilliant.

The Delgados did 4 excellent lps but lost the plot with the last, little bit toilet one.

re Beastie Boys

From the Five Burroughs is a bit shit though, isn't it?

I think 5 Boroughs

is excellent.

I think it's easily in their top 3.

yeah me too

unfortunately some cockmunch stole my copy a week after i got it :*(

i still have the case and im loathed to buy another one. but im yet to find some one else who has a copy i can burn. why dont i know any cool people?

Low

Even if l

l...

ast album was a bit disappointing, it's still better than 98% of bands.

Steve Albini

and Nick Cave

AND THE ANSWER IS...

Half Man Half Biscuit

interesting thread

Elliott Smith is a good call, definitely.
I would say REM if we forget anything after Up.
I would also say Jimmy Eat World. I don't know how they do it but their consistency radar never seems to falter at all.

Yeah,

Nick Cave is the king of this thread. Nearly every album is a stonker, there's only one i don't like.

Well yes, Cave is a god

but opinions have been divided amongst fans at some point or other. I love the boy, but Nocturama was a bit crap..

Half Man Half Biscuit is blatantly the correct answer. Never put out a bad record, never played a duff gig. Hardly jaw-dropping, but one of lifes great constants.

*jaw drops*

seriously? Nocturama is probably my second fave!
It's a god darn masterpiece!

But that's the beauty of Nick Cave, everyone likes different things.

Much in the same way as Sonic Youth

oops

blatantly got it mixed up with no more shall we part

i take it all back!

Cracking record

made even better by the fact it's got a song about Bury St Edmunds on it..

Animal Collective

</predictable>

And Les Savy Fav maybe.

Tom Waits

Hasn't made one bad record and is actually getting better with age

this^

</predictable>

Really?

yes

REALLY.

yeah no but i mean REALLY?

like actually?

YES

YES, THEY ARE A FUCKING AMAZING BAND.

Pixies!

All their albums are ace.

Super Furry Animals!

They get better with every album.

Even the b-sides and remix albums are good

also,

although i don't love them to the same extent as i love SFA, i don't think System of a Down or Green Day have made a bad album.

they had some albums out last year

you MUST have missed them!

well

I like American Idiot, and also Hypnotize/Mezmerize (although one of those isn't as good as the rest i forget which one though)

it's one albums worth of material

which in my opinion is not as good as their first two. i did ued to think the same though, so i was upset

...

Meh! SFA haven't made a decent album since Mwng.

Jacob's Mouse

and Nirvana never made a duff album. Pixies would qualify if they hadn't made 'Trompe Le Monde' - am I alone in thinking that album was mostly terrible?

dEUS have never made record that didn't leave me shaking with joy. If it was a competition, they'd win.

the pixies

the cribs (despite only having 2 albums)

incubus (if you happen to like them)

i'm shocked that someone

with the username Placid_Casual would say that?!

it's true.

SFA have been pretty much mediocre in their quality since Radiator.

I couldn't disagree more!

maybe the changes they go through with each album isn't to your tastes but I even love Love Kraft, which apparently wasn't exactly well received.

The only one I could maybe do without is Guerilla.

agreed

Super Furry Animals have been great with every album.

Also The Delgados.

bowie?

something worthwhile in every album i've heard certainly.

radiohead definitely. i think pablo honey is a really good pop rock record.

uhmmmm.

bright eyes?

No.

Not Bowie.

Dancin' in the street feat. Mick Jagger.

= (

that was a joke though

so it doesn't count. it was deliberately bad

oh

liars too. even if they've only had three albums.

VERY MUCH SECONDED

does the boy have any bad songs? no, the boy darnielle has no bad songs.

Elbow

they are consistant, i perfer their first album, but the other two are just as good.

...

oh yeah I forgot Elbow too.

Fugazi

and REM until the latest one. Or the one before, I can't remember.

of montreal

9 albums, one duff

SFA

Tom Waits
Wilco.

Been around for ages, yet to release a bad album between them.

The Beatles do not have a bad record.

They have a record which, relatively, isn't very good (Let It Be), but that's all.

Even Yellow Submarine was superb.

I don't think RyanAdams has done a crap record either, but that's probably because I love the Rock n Roll.

Queens Of The Stone Age

would be the only one I can think of who have consistently pulled it off. That being said, it's only recently I'm starting to get into older bands and going through back catalogues etc etc.

what about

Neil fucking Young.
