...but any one here ever heard of The Hold Steady, or is it just me being an ignoramus?

ive heard OF and maybe heard

glad to be of service

Yup. I have the album

Straight up springsteen-esque rock. Good stuff and enjoyable if very predictable fun.

Pitchfork gave it a whopping 9.4 - it's not that good imo.

The Hold Steady

I must be missing something about the Hold Steady. Sounded like an Thin Lizzy/E Street band tribute record to me.

Still a decent list.

The Hold Steady

As I say, I've never heard them, but the review makes them sound like the Spin Doctors - which is obviously very concerning.

Yawn...

yet another nonsense top X list...It really should have read 'The top X album's you should make yourself/pretend to like just so you can namecheck them in pretentious-offs with your muso mates - n.b. if any of the records become popular they will be removed from the list.'

I mean, The Drift? That honestly is one of the worst albums i've heard. Also, the Jenny Lewis record is half good at best - saved by 'handle me with care' and 'you are what you love(?)'

X

The Drift

is amazing. AMAZING.

I'm still learning

to erm

oops

cack handed dave.

I was going to say "appreciate it"

The Drift

is noise. BAD noise. Irritatingly bad noise, that even Westlife would struggle to match. Oh, but it's Scott Walker, that's ok then. WRONG. It could've been Des Walker* for all i care, it was still really bad.

*this would have worked better had i been a Notts Forest fan. I guess i could have used Roy Walker, but i'm not a huge fan of his either. Luke Skywalker? maybe.

bad noise

is good.

Is good noise bad?

How good does good noise need to be to become bad and visa versa. Maybe something's been lost in translation.

The Drift = Very bad/good (depending on your definition)

scott walker

is the very definition of BAD.

yeah

but the onion is good. They do the only end-if-year lists I'd bother reading.

*albums*

damn you sloppy grammar - diluting the point!

The Drift

is great.

its a very good list.

indeed.

i like.

Good to see The Pernice Brothers in there. They deserve more recognition in the UK too.

I'm not sure The Life Pursuit

should be that high up.

No recognition for The Radio Dept either, which saddens me.

Yay

Really nice to see Jenny Lewis feature so highly.

Vizheuer Zieheuer...

Excellent as it is, is only 1 35min track. It's just drug music, and all the better for it...

not

convinced...

The Hold Steady IS the greatest album

to grace my ears all year so yeah for that alone kudos to the onion,

Dang...

...guess I'm going to have to investigate.

I really lke

the Hold Steady. The 3/10 review on here was ridiculous.
