And no. this isnt the usual run of the mill DIS 'I love BP!!!'. as i dont, no where near actually.
BUt their new single, 'so here we are' isnt thatbad. maybe i'll find it slightly average in a couple more plays, but its nice atm. still dont get the hype though. Any other thoughts?

Re: bloc party

It is ok to like them you know. Most people (not all) on here won't judge you for it!

Re: bloc party

i like little thoughts.
and kele is well hot.

but otherwise...meh

Re: bloc party

dream on...

Re: bloc party

I really just don't get it. At all. All the songs have a VERY similar feel to them.

Re: bloc party

yeah. bland hand-me-down songs. nothing new. nothing interesting. "....meh" indeed.

Re: bloc party

Well the singles I've bought of theirs have entertained me more than a hell of a lot of stuff I've bought/borrowed/dowloaded this year. I'd dispute that their songs all sound the same, e.g. I think both Tulips and Helicopter are both great, but are miles apart. I look forward to the album.

Re: bloc party

so do most band's songs!

Re: bloc party

Yeah all the songs sound the same but it's quite a good song.
Don't know about an album's worth though
They almost feel a bit of a guilty pleasure
Bit of alleyway action

Re: bloc party

I think that gains the oddest comparision of the week in my book:
Bloc Party > being raped in an alleyway.

Re: bloc party

you added the nonconsentual aspect.
you feeling alright?
and yes, bloc party have two song templates. but they do them very very well. and i hope they progress with time. i emailed them to ask them to intersperse the "angular" stuff with massive sabbath riffs.
no reply yet.

Re: bloc party

exactly 'templates' -or more correctly badly traced facsimilies that the record company told them to copy as they were trawling around the archives of 1981 and thinking 'what an we sell back to the kids' - if they left it a couple of years, these lame clothes horses would be sounding like late-Visage - when are you going to wake up to the fact that major backed indies are doing exactly what ruthless majors and simon Cowell etc are doing - selling you a product in the same way that phone companies sell ringtones and surly albanians sell fags on Holloway Road - if you accept that then great but please dont look for any cultural or critical depth in these catlogue-models-with-guitars

Re: bloc party

Don't forget it was the band who came up with their sound in the first place- they are not a manufactured band- yes they are very marketable but that dosnt mean that they dont choose to dress like they dress and play like they play.

Re: bloc party

Dont get me wrong though- i think theyre horseshit!

Re: bloc party

There's more variety on the album i'd say (i'm thinking that's why they've omitted Little Thoughts), there are two definate templates like you said,

1. Up tempo/angular/fast riffs/big drums- Helicopter, Luno, Like Eating Glass

2. Chilled/love themed/complete lack of distortion- Blue Light, This Modern Love, So Here we are

But there are a few that don't fit either, and not even happily in between, Compliments is really quite Interpol lite, and She's hearing voices doesn't really fit in either..

I guess this depends on you actually having heard the album, but anyway, the album is very good. end.

Re: bloc party

Changing the tone slightly:

Was listengin to it again today, and found it remarkably similar to 'Maps' by the yyy's. Anyone else feel that?

Re: bloc party

This is a yawn. Most threads on Dis are split between hating BP and loving them. If you feel a need to apologise for liking them then there's no real point, listen to what turns you on.

Re: bloc party

true. i guess you could say of pretty much every band ever that they have two types of song and a bunch of anomylies.

their first singles were on actual real life indies, from whence all the hype came.
