The Ataris to Welcome the Night next month

the ataris

US pop-punks The Ataris are to release their sixth studio album next month.

Welcome The Night is to be released via Sanctuary on February 20. According to the folks at the label, the record finds the band - now a seven-piece, apparently - "pushing their musical boundaries into new and exciting territories". Which sounds nice.

The band's So Long Astoria album of 2003 sold over a million copies, you know. Wow. Nowadays we wonder if they'd be able to fill the Astoria.

Probably, actually. Welcome The Night's first single will be called 'Not Capable Of Love'. Awwww...

  • ^ guilty pleasure

    YAY

  • I like this band.

    :)

  • great band

shame the singer is going so bald! last two times i saw them he had a combover. not very punkrock.

  • 7 piece?

as i recall from years ago the singer also played guitar. Therefore assuming theve kept the same line up ie. bass, drums 2 guitars wtf are the other 3 supposed to do?

    • the washboard,

      trumpet and the spoons. Duh.

    • The Ataris, eh?

      So Long Astoria, eh?

      That was awful

    • Y'know

there's something about these chaps that I really LIKE.

Even if that single off Astoria was a ripoff of The Middle...

      • They used to be so good.

Then Kris Roe crawled up his own arse. Never mind.

        • Well...

I believe the other new members (only two from the last line-up remain) play the second/third guitar, bass, cello and keyboards. Think they're going for a more epic sound. Which is a million miles away from the three-piece pop-punk they played in the 90s.

          • This album was originally due

            out in something like 2005.

Been a rough few years for The Ataris
