Britpopping in '06: Albarn! Cocker! Fight!
Posted: 05 Jan '07, 17:08
Damon Albarn let himself down today, by coming over all touchy-feely as he went on the (mildly) offensive against Jarvis Cocker.
Albarn branded the actions of his Britpop contemporary 'disturbing', in reference to the infamous Michael Jackson, bum-waving incident at the 1996 BRIT Awards over TEN years ago.
"I've always had a problem with Jarvis' stance on that, I found it really disturbing when he pulled his pants down in front of Michael Jackson, that just seemed totally wrong," ventured Albarn.
"If someone is sick, he's not open to ridicule."
It's just ignorance, you're being ignorant, it's just ignorant. Albarn wasn't done there.
"He's got some very odd ideas about reality. I think it's a collective responsibility to say 'No you can't go and do what you're doing', not just to ridicule him.
On the subject of Cocker's debut solo single, 'Cunts Are Still Running The World', Damon told Uncut that he thought the Pulp frontman was WRONG.
"The world is not full of cunts," Albarn protested. "We have a collective responsibility not to slag people off and instead try to understand them."
-
.
Is "collective responsibility" phrase of the day?
-
""The world is not full of cunts," Albarn protested"
The punchline writes itself, doesn't it?
-
.
Albarn > Cocker.
-
Albarn may not be running the world
but he's still a cunt.
-
I wonder what suddenly got Albarn's goat?
It's not as if Cocker waving his arse at Jacko is exactly fresh news.
Although to Uncut magazine, it possibly is.
-
-
I hate Jarvis Cocker
Damon 4 life.
-
Oh dear god john fuller

I
second that motion.
-
-
-
-
still running the world
it's a good song really though.
even if they arent.
but, yeah, they probably are still. so albarns right.
but maybe that's what jarvis meant. running the world as much as they always have been.
so..err.. yeah.
-
Jarvis just seems humourless
too uptight really, I know Albarn is the same, but people really seem to love Jarvis for reason. They're both grumpy old men.
-
i think albarn
is probably worse. he always eems far too serious on everything.
i quite like jarvis. his interviews were always really entertaining. and he danced in that really funny way.
it might just be because i wear glasses that i like him though.
-
jarvis
isn't humourless AT ALL.
-
-
-
Eh?
If the world's at least supervised by cunts then why does Albarn keep churning out mildly blah music protesting against those in charge?
I think Albarn's just upset because ten years later kids are still writing Cocker's tasty soundbite lyrics on their bags and notebooks and Coxon's still down with the kids, while he's writing a rock-hop opera based on the Chinese legend of Monkey for an arts fair and considering recording hos solo album of African-beat-Indian-folk-acoustica in Baghdad.
Albarn's going to be our generation's Richie Blackmore isn't he? I look forward to his penny whistle and lute Icelandic hip-hop concent album of 2014.
-
Fuck Damon Albarn
The world might not be full of cunts, but he's certainly one
-
pfft
what a hippy
-
...
"I've always had a problem with Jarvis' stance on that, I found it really disturbing when he pulled his pants down in front of Michael Jackson, that just seemed totally wrong".
I might be mistaken here but I can't remember any pants ever being pulled down...
Please get your facts correct next time Damon.

-
Damon Albarn says something a bit daft and fairly pompous
not exactly a first really.
Nevertheless he's still great musically for me, no matter how much of an insufferable git he can be at times.
-
...
Cocker > Albarn
by some distance."We have a collective responsibility not to slag people off and instead try to understand them"
You're joking, right? Is it April already?
-
at the end of the day..
who are we going to listen to and admire?
- the man who wrote "His 'n' Hers" and "This is Hardcore" or the plum that wrote "Parklife"?
Hmmm....
-
they both suck
except for that singing ape shit, that shit rawks!
-
presume you mean parklife the album
it's a fucking masterpiece. i can see myself turning into The_Glory here, except for blur. but seriously.
-
-
parklife,
the album, shits all over both of those pulp albums (which i like both of) from a fairly high height
-
HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

-
hmm
surely it's '07?
-
COCKER >>>>>>>>>>>>>> ALBARN
THE END
-
I love them both
Jarvis appeals to my heart and Damon to my head. Everyone knows life's issues are complicated but everyone sometimes just wants to shout "it's all crap and all people are rubbish". Same with the Michael Jackson thing really - it didn't achieve anything but I just found it funny and he had the guts to do something most people would have chickened out of...
I don't think there was any point in Damon having a go (there are far worthier targets), but to be honest it was probably very innocent in the interview and sounds like some big war of words on paper. Something the press are more than happy to fan the flames of for a bit of copy...
-
Thank you!
For providing some sense. Damon Albarn didn't make a public statement on his website about this shit. Some arsewipe magazine stoked him up enough to get a soundbite, and now here it is, and we all hate him the more for it. Are we not tired of this 'X says this OMGZ' shite yet?
-
-
His vocal cords and lips
Have a collective responsibility to stop talking shit.
-
that sounds like a Panic! At The Disco lyric
-
-
wrong albarn!
the world IS full of cunts ....and your one of them
-
his one of them what?
-
-
why
is he saying this. it seems all a bit pointless...
-
he IS a bit pointless
IMHO
I really really really have little love for Blur and in particular Albarn and really really don't understand peoples undying love for them. Really.
AND Damon was always showing his nob onstage back in the day and there may have been paedos in the audience!!!!!!1111 or whatever.
-
modern life is rubbish
might begin your understanding, should you wish to begin the love affair you dont really want.
-
-
-
dear damon
i think the song in question might be a bit tongue in cheek. you know? fun? like the songs you used to write.
-
-
Pulp > Blur
Cocker > Albarn.
I see a pattern here...
-
relaxed muscle > gorillaz
that's how much I dislike "Dare".
-
-
-
..
If anyone is taking this personally theres a serious problem.
-
Oh Albarn.
Still,
Albarn solo work > Cocker solo work
-
I'm on the whoever's skinnier's side.
.
-
that would be
jarvis
-
-
im with jarvis on this.
never liked albarn though. always thought he was a prat. coxon was my favourite blur
-
Damon Albarn jacked off by Jarvis???
Damon Albarn let himself down today by coming all over Jarvis Cocker.
Albarn branded the arousing hand actions of his Britpop contemporary 'disturbing', in reference to the infamous Michael Jackson, bum-waving incident at the 1996 BRIT Awards over TEN years ago.
