same jeans the view

There they are, peering out from the magazine rack, the saviours of rock and roll, 2007 edition. But despite all the hype surrounding the imminent release of their debut album Hats Off To The Buskers – this single is the third to precede it – what, exactly, do The View bring to the table that’s so excitingly now that magazines the country over are scrambling to feature them? Well, nothing actually.

Which is precisely why they will succeed, in 2007 if not perpetually: ‘Same Jeans’ is indie-pop songwriting by numbers; an inoffensive and unspectacular tune that fills three minutes of daytime FM radio fairly well. Tellingly, perhaps, it’s the band’s first song to be playlisted at Radio 2. It isn’t, however, the sort of song you’d pull your record collection apart to find, as it is impressively forgettable. It has neither the lasting energy of The Libertines nor the perceptive wit of Arctic Monkeys, but parallels of a positive nature will nevertheless be drawn in many a quarter, a factor sure to boost popularity. It cleverly unfurls a simple tale, a well-worn tool of the trade, that ninety-nine per cent of the band’s potential audience can relate to: we do all wear the same pair of jeans for far too long between washes.

Okay, so maybe the average Radio 2 listener doesn’t.

The Scottish four-piece do have one thing on their side, though; something that may warrant the attention directed their way. They’re awfully young. Although they’re yet to release a single that’ll stand any test of time, they’re accomplished enough at this stage to develop into a band worthy of comparison to the aforementioned brace of recent indie-rock monarchs. At least, that’s the hope: if they fail to evolve from here, those glossies full of exasperating hyperbole are going to look very silly twelve months from now.

So many times now

have I seen reviewers on this site use the phrase "by numbers". It's a fucking cliche and lazy journalism. Cease.

Other than that, fair review.

"by numbers"

it's a useful phrase when it's referring to something so predictable and dull as that song, i've had more fun queueing for a bus that never came..

Thats a bit harsh.

I think the phrase "by numbers" is spot on for a song like this.
But yes good review indeed.

it's

appropriate.

KELLY OSBOURNE

Is the lead singer of this shower isnt she/he??

When I listen to this song...

I can't get Brimful of Asha out of my head.

Not quite sure why... maybe Cornershop have a claim?

i hear you

the view are tripe but not as bad as the fratellis

this band sounds like

the flush of my toilet.

i hate them so much.

My hope for the View

is that their album is promising, and that it does OK but not so well that they become absolutely massive, and then their label lets them make a second. Otherwise they could be washed-up, embittered and working in a Record & Tape Exchange by the time they're 25.

the album is beyond bad

shit band, shit song and i beleive cornershop intend to sue or something

.

No way, if things go tits up then they'll go back to Dundee and play shows in the fucking Doghouse every Saturday night for ten years while working at JJB Sports during the day. Once they hit their mid thirties they'll all settle down with whatever constitutes a family these days while working in Michelin and they'll die at 65 of heart disease, like everyone from Dryburgh does.

Sounds not bad to me like. Life outside London, man, it's a blast.

The thing is,

there needs to be a band around like this all the time.

You need an average, not-trying-anything-new and just easy to listen to band around all the time in my opinion.

I fucking love The View.

What I don't get

is that the period of time he's kept his jeans on for isn't really that unusual? Certainly not worth writing a song about.

Too true

I gor for weeks, often running dangerously close to months between washing my jeans sometimes. They're supposed to be good old fashioned sturdy, durable clothes, why wash 'em?

This song reminds me of Maroon 5

Not a good thing

.

no you don't.

how apt

i met the view in the girls toilets in the pit and pendulum.
true story.

the moment you hear a harmonica...

...you know the song's a dud.

CHALLENGE: can anyone name a good song with a harmonica in it?

.

Bob Dylan had one or two songs... oh and
the reverend black grape - black grape

The View are cool

I've read the review for "Same Jeans" and I think that the song is really cool, it reminds me of my friends
