The Wire appreciation thread (the band, not the magazine)

I've been re-listening to a lot of Wire this past week and by god they wrote some amazing stuff.

Well I knew that already but the Wire's first three albums are better then any other bands first three albums. Yes the other stuff is dodgy in parts but who cares really as whenever someone refers to Wire it's referring to the first three albums.

My personal favourite is 154, it contains that absolute gem of a song Map Ref. 41°N 93°W which I think is about as close to a perfect pop song as you can get.

I was saying the same thing only yesterday

http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/1489068

I think Pink Flag is still my favourite of the three.

T-Shirts

Can someone please tell me were to get a Wire T-shirt. Even the official site doesn't have them.

P.S. Pink Flag is the best

I've only got the first two

Actually, I've also got "Manscape", from 1990 - bought it a while ago for £3 and don't think I've ever listened to it.

In fact I shall put it on when I get home.

pink flags the one for me

only got the first 2 so far.

i heart wire

154 is indeed the one

'Mutual Friend' is the great track. Dig that cor anglais!

*bump*

surely more people love Wire, right?

Where to start?

Well...

any of the first three albums (Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, 154) really as they are all amazing. Well Pink Flag less so but it's still really good.

Pitchfork explains things better then me:

Cheers

i was lucky enough

to see them play Pink Flag at On The Rocks a couple of yeras ago.

lovely.

i used to love 154 the best

but im becoming more enamoured with chairs missing in the last couple of years. 154 is a lot more ambitious, but i think cm is ultimately more effective. it is an astonishing opening trio of albums though, both for their quality and for the stylistic leaps from one to the other

pink flag

first two tracks: amazing (the rest also good). but i also really like outdoor miner from chairs missing... with the piano solo for preference.

xu!

pink flag is amazing

but 'another the letter' is one of the most perfect songs ever.

I was talking about how Map Ref...

makes me "el oh el" in PV's thread the other day when he says "chorus!". I fucking love Wire. They are always solidly and firmly nestled in my top 5 bands of all time niche.

Every six months or so I do the first three records

one straight after the other, and confirm it an outstanding listening experience.

Chairs Missing probably my favourite..

T-Shirts

Can someone please tell me were i can get a hold of a Wire t-shirt. Even the official website doesnt have any

Elastica certainly liked them.

Comparing 3 Girl Rhumba + Connection. Blatant!

Map Ref. 41°N 93°W

perfect pop indeed
