A compilation of rare Nick Drake material is to be released by Island later this year.
The collection is to be titled Family Tree, and is to contain songs that have never before been released. No track listing for the album, due in late Spring/early Summer, has yet been released.
In related news, a documentary on the late folk singer will be shown at this year's South By Southwest event in Austin, Texas this March. It's called A Skin Too Few: The Days Of Nick Drake. Keep your eyes on DiS in the coming weeks for SXSW previews and news updates, as we're going to be there with balls on.
Whatever that means.

A skin too few
is pretty good, if its that documentry bbc4 made a few years ago
bf
oh man...how can you make a documentary of someone there literally isn't ANY footage of beyond a cinefilm of him as a baby.
Is this 'rarities' comp the stuff thats been out on bootleg for years too?
Yep
The BBC4 documentary featured photos songs and talking heads from his sister, Uni friends, Joe Boydd and others associated with the lad. It was called a skin too few so I guess it's the same as the SXSW one. It's well documented that record buyers never gave a fuck about him when he was alive and it was only well after his death that his music started to get picked up. The myth of the man is well served by the lack of footage and the 3 album body of work he left.
Any Nick Drake release
is good news in my book
Nick Drake
is probably the closest to musical perfection I've heard.
my mother is currently obsessed with nick drake
she wants me to go with her to visit his grave. he was an amazing man - i'll have to hunt down this documentary - anyone know if it's on dvd?
if he was still alive
would his work be so admired?
yes
he music is brilliant
if you listen...
to songs like Things Behind The Sun, PLace to Be or Riverman, you hear just how incredible his music is. His guitar, vocal and delivery is always faultless.
True there is no footage of him, but i think a documentary about someone like this will always be worthy. That one Brad Pitt narrated a while ago on Radio 2 was briiliant.
Turns out he lived 3 doors away from me on Havestock Hill in Hampstead - that makes me cool surely?
five leaves left
contains some t'riffic arrangements, Riverman in particular that add to his voice and brilliant guitar playing.
