Probably the 931st instance of this thread. But fuck it.
Mine was (yes) A Salt with a Deadly Pepa, on cassette.
I have no idea what happened to it. Beat that.

The Smurfs Go Pop
I had an obsession with the smurfs
when i was about 5. Srsly, i loved them.
"HERE COMES NOI-SEY SMURF! WOOOOOOOO-OOOOOAH"
K
kula shaker
on the day it came out. oh yes.
Jive Bunny
probably
^ that
Ricky Martin's
debut. Latino God.
Nuisance by Menswear
And I still don't believe in being brave. Not one bit
I had that on cassette and recently purchased the CD
"winter's gone away and the morning's aren't so cold
rub the sleep out of my face
hug my pillow and try not to count the days
get your face out of my brain"
Erm
Cassette Album: Automatic For The People - REM
CD: Suede - Suede
LP: Jesus Urge Superstar - Urge Overkill
That doesn't count the fact that I was given Jive Bunny and stuff for christmas one year, and then Levelling The Land a couple of years later.
Now 23
I believe it contained the holy combination of Shaggy AND Shabba Ranks.
i remember as a kid
really wanting to buy the mr blobby single, solely so that in later life i would have to say that was first single i bought.
but i was quite lazy, and the record shop in penicuik had shut down, so i ended up getting something else instead.
But what?
WHAT? Don't leave us hanging like this
i was about to say then remembered it was a first album thread!
(me and you versus the world by space, which is actually still ACE)
I used to love Spiders
In 999 they make a livin' from crime
The house is always empty cos they're all, doing time
:D
it was brilliant!
well, the singles were anyway. (see what theo said about britpop in supergrass thread.)
possibly placebo's first album
although it might have been what's the story morning glory. i do know that my first single was gangsta's paradise, by coolio!
queen greatest hits
on cassette, the same day i bought my first stereo (twin cassette deck with high speed dubbing, wow!). I must have been about 10 at most.
either........ a NOW 80s album
or Blur - The Great Escape (on tape)
Prodigy - fat of the land and Leftfield - leftism were the first cds i bought.
Adam And The Ants
Kings Of The Wild Frontier
same for me...
we'd probably get on ;p
I've still got mine, you still got yours ?
I've still got mine!
Not my first LP though, that would be ELO - New World Record, but it may have been my second.
It's still in tip-top condition as well, no scratches or anything!
First 7" single
was Spandau Ballet - To Cut A Long Story Short, and I still have it!
ive still got mine
stashed with all my other vinyl in the loft,i now have it on one of those shiny new compact disc thingys
me too
still afuckin good album, think i was 8 at the time,my impeccable taste continues today
probably one of the Now! comps.
a now! cassette
its had george michel and the spice girls on. I think I wore it out through overuse :s
Promises and Lies by UB40
Go on, take the piss.
Hahahahahahaha
You love UB40! You want to have sex with all their albums!
---
That alright? I can tone it up or down.
Batman Forever soundtrack
Look, why is it so hard to believe that I do in fact compare you to a kiss from a rose? I'll have you know I do this on a regular basis.
First CD I ever bought
was "The Bends". Pretty impressive, huh? I had good taste, didn't I?
No. Because the second was "All Change" by Cast.
I actually almost bought that
I was swept up in the Britpop madness. Luckily I thought better.
And bought Skunk Anansie or something :D
I bought All Change :(
It's genuinely
pretty much the only album I can't bear to listen to now.
i bought that.
and i was about ten or eleven and had no money so i must have really wanted it.
awful, awful album
Scariest woman
ever?
You never remember Thatcher in power, do you?
:D
I Should Coco
cassette: troublegum
cd: body count
Travis
The Man Who
Changed my life?
First tape album
I'm not going to say ;)
First CD album Grand Prix by Teenage Fanclub
>>
i can't remember whether i got 'whats the story.. morning glory' or 'the best of the lightning seeds' first, nor can i judge which one i find more embarrassing now. thankfully they are no longer in my possession.
i do remember that my first single purchase was 'return of the mack' by legendary granny-tazerer mark morrison. badass or what?
The first album
I ever owned was A Salt With A Deadly Pepa on vinyl but I think it was bought for me. The first one I bought was Starship, I think.
Muse - Origin Of Symmetry.
:)
That's quite scary. Once upon a time we may have had identical taste...
Bought ?
The Smiths - the queen is dead
smash by the offspring
cool yes ?
Suede - Coming Up
Although before that the 1st album I ever asked for as a Christmas present and got was Automatic for the People. And the first album I was ever given (but never actually asked for) was Take That and Party.
You didn't ask for it
but you wanted it, right?
I got the 7" of "Come On Eileen" for my first birthday. I can only wonder what was going through my aunt's head at the time.
I honestly don't remember what I thought about Take That at the time
I was about 10 then and I certainly wasn't a huge fan but I think I listened to it a couple of times and liked one or two of the songs but didn't listen to it anywhere near as much as the Hits' 92 compilation I got at the same time.
I actually listened to that compilation fairly recently. Marc Almond's version of "The Days of Pearly Spencer" is actually pretty great. And I still like Shakespeares' Sister's "Stay".
"Stay"
is melodramatic pop at its finest.
On tape:
As Ugly As They Want To Be by Ugly Kid Joe. I've still got it.
Spin Doctors
Pocket Full Of Kryptonite. Oh yes. And it survives where Red Hot Chili Peppers cds have perished.
Highly Evolved
My God, you're young!
I must have been 19 or 20 when that came out.
Never really got into it but "Get Free" is obviously brilliant.
I was 12 I think
great album anyway.
Ugly Kid Joe - Americas Least Wanted
i think...it was either that or the teenage mutant ninja turtles soundtrack
Tears For Fears
Songs from the Big Chair
Not a bad one at least... don't listen to it any more but 'The Hurting' still gets regular spins on the cd player...
just remembered
my first cd. Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour
haha :)
It was
Now Thats What I Call Music 2.
It had The Reflex on it by Duran Duran.
Thats The Reflex, fle-fle-flex
Now TWO?
Old-school. What else is on there?
Oh
According to Wikipedia, you're thinking of Now 3: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now_That%27s_What_I_Call_Music_3_%28U.K._series%29
If I can remember
Sister Sledge and some song I detested.
Free Nelson Mandela song by someone AKA.
And erm....It had a pig on the front cover wearing sunglasses.
My tatse has moved on since then but I still own the record albeit its a dear old Mother Hubbards.
Wow
I was!
And I got two more right.
Thanks. I have now regressed to my childhood and want to beat up my brother :)
Be Here Now
Jason donovan - Between the Lines
he had a lovely studded leather jacket in the photo on the cover.

Stereophonics - Performance And Cocktails
i'm listening to it now.
Blast-from-the-past-tastic

despite the shit lyrics
*great lyrics
.
"he was walking 'round to you
one said french afternoon
so he called in to a shop for two
he bought himself an ice drink
a totally tropical nice drink
then he saw what he thought was you in a room
he thought about goin' over
but you were always much older
and your sex dressed breasts impressed too
he'd really like to get it together
before the twelve of never
so he's coming over"
there's a lot more where that came from
fuck you
There's things I want,
There's things I think I want,
There's things I have,
There's things I wanna have,
Do I want the dreams?
The ones were forced to see?
Do I want the perfect wife?
The word perfect, ain't quite right
Shopping every day, take it back the next break,
They say the more you fly,
The more you risk your life
I'm just looking,
I'm not buying,
I'm just looking,
Keeps me smiling
A house I've seen,
Another coulda' been,
You drenched my head,
And said what I said,
You said that life is what you make of it,
Yet most of us just fake
I'm just looking,
I'm not buying,
I'm just looking,
Keeps me smiling
I'm just looking,
I'm not buying,
ooh, I'm just looking,
Keeps me trying
I'm just looking,
I'm not buying,
ooh, I'm just looking,
Keeps me smiling
There's things I want,
There's things I think I want,
There's things I have,
There's things I wanna have,
They say the more you fly,
The more you risk your life
Well I'm just looking,
I'm not buying,
I'm just looking,
Keeps me smiling
you're right
he's quite the social commentator.

Think I was about 9 or so.
with my own money
that i saved from paper rounds, it was What's the story, Morning Glory. on CD.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream on CD
Fat of the Land
On tape, I think. But don't worry - it was soon followed by the Best of Sash!

I got some D:Ream singles
and chaka demus and pliers and all that crap...
But first album was Different Class on Tape. Still got it!
Abbey Road on tape.
Loved it at the time. Now its one of my least favourite Beatles albums.
Definitely Jive Bunny
who I am glad to say I have seen in the flesh
Blur - The Great Escape
it was the only cd I owned for like a year and a half. It made me the man I am today
Now... 6

The first actual band album as it were
was Kiss : Crazy Nights!....I still listen to it.
Pulp - Different Class
God knows
I could only hazard a guess at 1st tape.
Possibly Michael Jackson's Thriller or Bad, possible an Erasure album (the black one).
CD: Dookie by Green Day
erm...
i think it was hanson's middle of nowhere. it's on bright orange viynl.
anyone
who bought something cool and credible as their first record is a complete liar.
PJ & Duncan - Psyche.
It was Pet Shop Boys - Actually
Or The Hardline according to Terence Trent D'arby
I got two with my Xmas
money when i was 8/9ish Bad by Wacko Jacko and shamefully the Buster (that god awful Phil Collins film) official soundtrack!
CD
was Definatly Maybe though
With my own money...
"Everything Must Go" by the Manics. Not bad. Don't think I followed it up with anything too ridiculous either, although I did buy a Will Smith CD single at one point...
Parallel Lines
Blink 182
Enema Of The State
it's still pretty good now :o
doggystyle
on tape. i remember being vaguely traumatised by the dogs wearing thongs and bras in the inlay.
jamiroquai
Travelling without moving.
Though I had been given an oasis album before that and a neil young album on tape.
Which one counts?
Ancient Heart
by Tanita Tikaram. It's her debut album. I still wouldn't hesitate recommend it.
