Watching those when I get home
Kyuss
do rule - it's true!
it's actually The Velvet Underground
but kyuss were good.
bf
I can't be bothered to find the youtube link, but it's clearly The Monks, though similarly, I can't be bothered to watch the Kyuss links, so I MAY be wrong, I guess ;)
bf
but I doubt it
...
Yep, the Monks. Even at their age they can get away with wearing those nooses. I want them to come back to England again!
bf
Did you see them? They were excellent, weren't they.
One of the most enjoyable gigs I've seen. Most of the time when you see older acts, its a no drinking/reverential kind of affair, but that gig was just plain FUN
...
Yeah it was the best gig of last year easily. I got there stupidly early and wasn't sure what it was going to be like, but as soon as they started it was fantastic. I smiled most of the way through it.
bf
heh...I was playing a gig in Kilburn that night, so I literally jumped right off the stage, and got into the van, and drove to the gig, arriving JUST in time...
I second The Monks.
you're not being sarcastic are you?
hmmm...
RFTC.
British Sea Power
are really cool live, in a good way.
The STrokes are pretty cool..
It's
The Byrds for sure.
^^...cool indeed...
Hotel California era Eagles...
?????
I have the Hotel California LP...
in which there is a huge fold out poster of the boys, in SEPIA that oozes cool, that's just the way it is i'm afraid. Deal with it.
i like kyuss a lot
but coolest band ever!? no ways
they're a bunch of unkempt stoners playing some heavily downtuned funk-metal. and the lead singer guy always pissed me off. as wayne and garth would say, he can 'wail', but it tends to be in a quite irritating style with lyrics like 'makinn luuurrve..'
personally i reckon qotsa are a much cooler band all round.
and as for coolest band of all time.. i'd say either the cramps or the meters
qotsa ruined it with that last album
rated r is of course, utterly ten hundred percent cast iron stone cold clear cut ice cool
i really liked that album
probably a couple of songs too long, and some duffness, but i still rate it pretty highly. its no rated r, obviously
nah
it was the jimi hendrix experience.
They had afros 30 years before at the drive in.
They did lots of drugs.
They played real loud.
But
they (Jimi excepted) weren't cool.
kyuss
are not cool
says you judy garland
they quite clearly are ... with all those colossal fuzz rock desert soundscapes how could they not be cool as fuck ?
sky valley is easily one of the best heavy albums ever made
the secret track on sky valley
categorically proves how uncool they are
lol
no robert, they're not cool
you just can't handle
the RAAAAAAAAAWK
Awesome clips
Kyuss were awesome. But Garcia let them down in the cool stakes with his woeful lyrics and borderline misogyny. Great vocals, but as soon as you make out a few words its hard not to cringe.
^^^This
I love Kyuss, but Garcia's lyrics are really bad. Not to mention his attempts at dancing in those videos! It's like a plank of wood trying to do that silly Axl Rose snake thing :(
Fortunately his singing is really quiet in comparison to the amazing guitar sound on the albums. So Kyuss still rule. Sadly they aren't the coolest band ever.
The Sonics are pretty cool.
Oasis 1994.
...
Liam Gallagher talked shit to Mark Lanagan when he was in QOTSA.
Liam got punched.
Therefore there is at least one band cooler than Oasis.
Even though in 1994, Oasis were about as cool as Cholera.
Cholera's pretty cool
although I prefer TB.
The Velvet Underground
They so are the coolest band of all time.
Loads of drugs, hung out at the factory, and Edie Sedgwick, combine that with the music and you get very fuckin cool.
They've definitely got a claim to it.
Also, they barely sold any records. That's pretty cool.
Yet another reason why I love Mark Langegan
If it wasn't for the geeky man mountains that were the Connor brothers I'd vote for the Screaming Trees as coolest band ever just because of this.
Yeh
Lanagan lamping a Gallager is a sweet image.
does anyone else remember that rumour
about nick oliveri beating up most, if not all, of terrorvision at big day out a few years ago ?
The actual truth to that rumour
is that he left terrorvision along and just the shit out of everyone else at big day out fucking fruit loop
just imagine a festival where symposium are much higher on the bill than qotsa
crazy!
some of my friends went. i was stupidly jealous.
The Make Up.
They were pretty cool.
I often wish I'd seen the Make-Up
I bet they were inspirationally good live, on their night.
I saw them twice
they were fantastic, and dripping with cool.
Makes me wonder what happened to Ian's new band Weird War. I haven't heard them but I've heard a lot of people dissing them.
naw its the meat puppets
Great clips!
Watching those made me realise how I will always love Kyuss. They hold a special place in my heart. If I could go back and watch a bad of the past then they would be at the top of the list.
Loved em for years... then they split before I could see them.
So thanks, great clips.
And yes, one of the coolest bands ever. They definately had a vibe about them.
OK, I didn't actually mean yesyesyes they were the coolest band evaaaaaaaaaaaah
but yesyesyes about the videos. I've got to say that they didn't look that exciting live and I'm a little disappointed. Didn't stop that woman with her bum bag getting over-excited, though.
QOTSA are cooler than Kyuss, but I still have big love for Kyuss, in spite of Garcia's woeful lyrics (which you generally can't hear). The last QOTSA album IS cool too, just not as immediate and rawk as Rated R, but for having things like the sound of Billy Gibbons's beard getting stuck in his strings. Class.
No way
QOTSA = NME friendly rock
Kyuss = heaviest rock band ever
qotsa are cooler than kyuss
FACT.
Only if you prefer
NME friendly rock.
No
They're NME friendly. So what?
They're infinitely cooler.
bullshit
its an empirical fact.
at one point NME were quite friendly towards Kyuss. what does that mean?
They mentioned Kyuss
a few times but that was it. They never had the full on NME hype machine treatment that QOTSA had. Rated R album of the year... Fuck off!
rated r is a brilliant album, and deserving of that title
and they weren't even that hyped up. even so, that was when NME hype actually meant something.
and whatever you want to believe, qotsa are way cooler than kyuss. end of
Ugh
Latest QOTSA album = Drivel.
Songs for the Deaf = Masterpiece.
i disagree massively
last razorlight album = drivel
greatest love songs of phil collins album = drivel
latest qotsa album = not quite as good as what came before
^^^ Totally agree
..
Kyuss were way uncool. They're named after a Dungeons and Dragon monster! They had long hair! Fortunately, all of the best bands are uncool.
^^^ This
I don't love Kyuss for being cool, and I don't love QOTSA for being cool either. They just happen to be slightly closer to cool than Kyuss.
Green Machine
Green machine is one head-exploding fucker of a song.
Early Manics
without a doubt.
Poor old Brody Dalle has had to give up her band The Distillers because she's had a sodding baby with Josh Homme. It really should be the other way round HE should have given up his now tired band.
Manics were never ever cool
They were trying far too hard. They were marginally cooler than Sigue Sigue Sputnik, but it was the same level of manufactured outrage.
Johnny Cash. Now that's cool.
Josh Homme,
to my knowledge, can't get pregnant.
It's Sonic Youth.
Sorry.
