Norwich or Bristol?

I have to decide on a uni soon. I've narrowed it down to the 2 I prefer. Norwich comes top of the list but is it so far away from anywhere that I will get bored wayyy to easily? Or shall I go to Bristol where I'll end up spending all of my money in a matter of weeks?

YOU DECIDE.

(Actually, I'll probably have the final say. But comments appreciated nonetheless.)

  • I had a friend who went to Norwich

and another that went to Bristol.
The one that went Norwich seemed to have a better time.

    • Norwich?

      It's gotta be Bristol

      • Norwich

because I went there and that's all you need to know. Bristol's full of foul-mouthed hooligans, muggers, prostitutes and an even more unsettlingdialect than that of Norwich

        • Norwich is full of cunts

          • I take it you went to Bristol, then

            • no, he is just being unnecessarily antagonistic

              • Ah

The description of "foul-mouthed hooligans" did seem a little too apt.

                • I'm a Surrey man

and I am trying to move away from the whole hooligan thing thank you very much.

                  • Try harder, then

The glasses ought to help. And stop shaving yer 'ead.

                    • My hair is growing back at an astonishing rate

I will look like a normal member of society soon enough.

    • They're both

good cities with plenty to do so I doubt you'd be bored. Norwich is under-rated, loads of good gigs and nice pubs there.

  • I'd vote Norwich

    • I never thought I'd hear you say that

      Good one boss

      • Why not?

I like Norwich a lot. Much more than I like Bristol, anyway.

        • because of the Lincoln-Norwich rivalry

          Because you hate Adam Drury

        • and to think I once had feelings for you

deep, emotion feelings that only men can feel.

  • I'd vote Bristol

there seems to be more going on there

  • bristol is obviously better

  • what do you mean, so far away from anywhere?

it's a city. there are things to do in it.

  • I would say Bristol

because I live here and I love it.

However Norwich does have a might fine Mustard shop.

    • Yep, they sure love their mustard

  • Bristol

cos it's better, not that i've been to Norwich. But i know someone from near there who goes to uni in Bristol and prefers Bristol.

    • and you get to play

*spot the jp100* which I totally OWN at.

      • Spot the scarecrow is harder

she's small and hides behind dj booths and klaxons and stuffs.

        • Spot the lemonbrickcombo is easy

just look for the naked guy!

  • its

gotta be bristol all the way!!!

  • one of my flatmates at bristol went to do a matsers at norwich after he graduated

don't know which he prefered, but he did start seeing a yorkshire lass whilst in Norwich. so i would choose bristol, in fact i did choose bristol, and now look at me!

    • Norwich has

      a better football team

      a better cathedral

      a better university

      a better market

      • a better university?

I sincerely doubt that. Disclaimer: I am a university of bath student, not a bristol one.

        • why do you doubt that?

          it has

          • Bristol is generally higher up the rankings than UEA

well, it was last year....I dunno, what subject are you going for spicer? Also, you NEED to visit both, get a feel for them both.

            • I'm going to study Graphic design

I've been to open days at both, and had a brief wander round the cities, bit I was thinking in terms of entertainment/record stores/time it takes for me to get bored of the place/people etc.

              • you can never ever get bored in bristol

I'm pretty sure. Plus bath is nearby, and ask any Disser that I am a constant source of entertainment! I know v v v little about graphic design, UEA could possibly better.

            • depends on the table you look at

UEA was shortlisted for sunday times top uni of 2005, and joint top in the national student satisfaction survey.

but i'd decide it on how good the department is, almost entirely. i live in bristol and my girlfriend's at uea. both lovely cities, mostly.

          • not that i have checked recently,

but the university of Bristol is traditionally proven to be better than Norwich uni

          • in my biased opinion

            that isn't very true

            • it's better for English.

If you're doing English go to Norwich

              • ^this

                is true.

                • I did history

                  so ignore me

                  • my friend does history at UEA

I think it may be better than brizzle. Langauges and law and sciences and stuff you should go bristol.

                    • ho is your friend?

not implying that your friend is a ho. just 'being DiS'. my gf does history at UEA you see

              • If you are doing history

                go to surrey

              • but you don't have exams doing English at bristol

it was quite frequently rubbed in my 30 hours of exams a year face

  • Norwich also has a lovely pedestrianised city centre

    • Bristol has lovely pedestrians*

      *may not be true

      • Bristol has less pederasts*

        *almost certainly not true

      • no it is true

especially in st pauls/montpelier, always very chatty

        • st. pauls, only cause they're all wired.

          • exactly

that's the great thing about bristol, it is very very relaxed

    • Norwich has

      365 pubs

      52 churches

      and 7 record shops

      • and is a short train ride from

        The Norfolk Broads

        Cromer

        Great Yarmouth

        • but it is not a short train ride from Glastonbury

          after the festival

          or the west counrty

          or minehead, after ATP

        • Bristol is a short train ride from Cardiff and Bath

It has at least 15 venues. Including a converted boat and a church. Entrance prices are cheap. And it has the ONLY PLACE IN THE WHOLE WORLD WHERE CARLING IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN CARLSBERG (1.70, compared to 1.50)

And it's under an hour and a half out of central london by train, for those special gigs you can't miss.

          • There's a pub near me

where Carlsberg is drastically cheaper than Carling

        • Norwich

          has carrow road

          field of dreams

  • I live in Bristol...

...and it's great. And I love Clifton, the area Bristol University is in. BUT...

Here's the depressing bit. A friend of mine has worked in many different departments at the Uni and something became quickly apparent. Every Bristol Uni student is well off - I guess they have to be, because unlike, say, Manchester where I went, the Uni is in the most expensive part of the city. You get it from the clothes, the accents, you name it... there are no poor people at Bristol Uni. The lack of any kind of diversity is really sad.

Having said that, if you can afford to go to Bristol, it is ace.

    • I'm not exaggerating, by the way

...spot a northern accent at Bristol Uni and win a prize.

      • my girl friend in the first year was from york

and her flat mate was from leeds

      • You are exaggerating.

I'm at Bristol Uni and I have 2 very northern girls on my floor and know plenty of others. Yes, there are absolutely loads of rahs here and apparently it's the Uni with highest public school intake (60% ish but there are still plenty of "average" people here.

    • This is true

Bristol and Bath are RA/public school boy centric. But there are always ones you like from that kind of background.

      • I would steerclear of Clifton

i have to admit i didn't like the students i met from there so much. most of them did seem to spend most of their time up their own bottoms

    • 'the uni is in the most expensive part of the city'

but it's not like you have to shop there. and the union bar is as cheap as most other ones...

  • go to Bristol

    yes
