would it be fair to say that there is a difference in girls that girls consider pretty and girls that guys consider "well fit"????

cos at school (all girls, the shame) the topic of who's pretty and who isnt comes up a fair amount.. but when you speak to guys about who they like, it's invariably someone who really isnt "stunning/pretty" etc etc.

plus, it seems that any girls who arent skinny AND curvy have "man figures" in which case that totally makes me a “man” cos my legs don’t meet in the middle…. (I always thought if my legs touched in the middle then I had fat legs…)

ahem, seriously am I right or am I right???

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

In answer to your question, no, you're not fat.

Actually, judging by your picture, your physiology is just baffling.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

There's a definite difference. When I speak to girls about this subject, they always come out with women who are just not pretty. In my eyes, anyway. I don't know why - maybe it's because I have strange tastes (I've recently developed a real thing for that Kirstie Allsopp who hosts 'How good is your design location House of the year' or whatever it is on C4. She's a hunny...)

It works the other way though. I was talking to a girl the other day who claimed that Cullum was attractive. I smashed her face into a rock and told her not to darken my path again, obviously ;) Women just have no taste, it's official ;)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

If you check out the rock chick thread I reckon you can safely say that everyone likes something a little bit different. Tis good, otherwise we'd all fight over the same people.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Ah, it's not just me, then. Kirstie is very high on my list at the moment, which met with hilarity when I admitted it last week. Can't understand why - she's very nice, in a Sloane-y kind of way.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Exactly. I thought I was alone until now as well. Ah, the internet. Bringing together people who randomly fancy posh birds ;)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Is she the dark-haired one? Loks a bit like Jenny Powell when she was doing No Limits?

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

at least she wears her heart on her... skirt?

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Mrs knees would certainly go along with a bit of that....she thinks that men who fancy Natalie Imbruglia/Callisat Flockheart/Kate Moss/Anna Friel...are a bit dodgy cos she thinks they just look like pretty boys (no shape)
Then again she may be biased cos she is a bit bigger than them.

Personally I don't really mind its more about how someone engages with you, facial interaction and passion e.t.c.

Men sometimes traditionally classify themselves as 'a legs man' 'a breast man' etc....I think this is not really true. Although walking behind women does present men with an unhindered opportunity to compare and contrast the relative merits of behinds in great detail......Sorry I'm not being sexist....just telling it like it is.

The boys at your school probably do not consider all the most prettily faced girls cos their fantasies may have to incorporate some degree of reality, so they may also fancy someone that they consider they might conceivably have a chance with.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

"The boys at your school probably do not consider all the most prettily faced girls cos their fantasies may have to incorporate some degree of reality, so they may also fancy someone that they consider they might conceivably have a chance with"

I agree with that wholeheartedly. Except where Abi Titmuss is concerned. No degree of reality in that particular fantasy for me ;)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Somehow I think abi wouldn't be quite as well known with the nuts/zoo/fhm lot if she didnt have 'tit' in her name. i remember randomly fancying anyone who talked to me for 5 minutes and smiled at school, so yeah, the 'having a chance with' thing is true. As for the skinny girl-boy thing, I don't think there's anything dodgy about that. I love androgynous women, had a bit of a thing for Justine Elastica in my late teens. Subversive fashion is a bit of an obsession of mine though. I much prefer the short hair/ big boots thing to these strange glittery made-up bleach-blonde types wobbling round on silly heels with no coat on a friday night. that said, overt femninity can be hugely attractive obviously. I just don't like the lack of subtlety in it, like they are holding a huge sign saying "LOOK AT ME I'M FIT!!!"

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Short hair is life. Girls with short hair will ruin me. Short hair and glasses. Oh lord.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Mmmm, girls in glasses. Mmmmm.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Oh lord. Don't even get me started.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

I wear glasses and am not sure I have ever had that response...

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

yeah, theres definitely a difference...I reckon, guys tend to think about what is sexually attractive rather than aesthetically attractive, so boobs do figure.

I find that girls also tend to buy the skinny is pretty myth more than guys. I only know a couple of men who really go for thin girls, and frankly they are both in a constant battle with repressing their hidden gayness.

If you're in a school situation or other place where there is a pack of men, bear in mind they may be talking utter crap to fit in and secretly go home and 'excite themselves' over pictures of Dawn French and Ann Widdecombe

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

When I was at school, (and no that's not me on the profile), I was considered unattractive because I have light olive skin, (dark in the summer), dark brown eyes and dark hair.
I was told that I was and would always be unattractive because I looked foreign and not stereotypically English and didn't have blue eyes or blonde hair.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Well the reasons you were given are absolute bunk, just a case of some teenagers having a go, to make someone feel small.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

"I was told that I was and would always be unattractive because I looked foreign and not stereotypically English and didn't have blue eyes or blonde hair."

I can honestly say for me the exact opposite is true - where's the excitement in someone who looks the same as everyone else? I'd kill for a woman with dark hair and olive skin. Not literally.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

What kind of Hickville school did you go to Psyche?

Kids can be so cruel. Although, I have to admit some playground taunts were unfortunately quite funny. A few I remember being bandied around at my school were:

Tod Landers (or, Smartie Head)
Cabbage
Plank
Pudding
and Puckered Up Mushroom Head. (That one cut quite deep actually).

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Did they call you all those?! ;-)

I got bigheadlittlebody and gorgonmorgan.

Man, kids are harsh......

Ahh but I got smiler too, from the same kids which is odd.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

It was a dreary suburban school where all the kids thought that they where from "the streets of London" and spoke in fake cockney accents, it was also a very racist area and anyone who didn't look remotely English was subject to abuse.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

I spent my school days being called vice-head and goofy. I even had a period of being called tinribs, before I got fat. All that was by my 'mates' as well, bunch o' bastards. Not the harshest of names I suppose, I got off lightly...

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Vice-head, that's brilliant!

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

No not all of them, only the mushroom one.

Don't know what kind of mushroom though....Chestnut maybe?

Was it the boys who called you those names. Cause teasing can sometimes be a form of flirting?

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Ahh - you're sweet, but no - I went to a girls school. They weren't being nasty tho. We all did it... ritualistic abuse, that's what schools all about isn't it?!

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

I remember one the Primary School Insults:

Yer mum's a snowblower

Don't think I can remember anymore.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Girls need to realise that they're all attractive. A bloke can stand in the middle of the high street and immediately pick out at least ten girls that he likes the look of. And then when he walks off, he'll be staring at the arse of the girl in front.

We'd do the lot of ya.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Three factors, I reckon:

Primal reproductive instinct (or as Silverfish put it "Hips, Tits, Lips, Power")

Fashion and personal taste (Mr Brainlove's comments)

Mental connectivity (surely everyone's either realised they fancy someone they've known for a while or realised that someone gets on their nerves who they initially thought attractive)

The relative bias changes with time is all. At school, number two's probably prevalent, later on it tends to take more of a back seat.

There.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Oh, and the difference is, girls never quite get factor 1 particularly accurately.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Some of the girls whom I was forced to go to school with got knocked up at 16.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

same in most scholls i'd imagine. was at mine.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

psyche, i totally get what your saying kinda becasue i have olive skin, dark hair and dark eyes... no ones ever been really mean about it but i do get "so, where are your parents from" and im like "ahem, england all the way...."

how thin is too thin?

plus, on the guy girl difference thing, (in a non-boasting way here) my friends mums and people who are older say im "stunning" but i dont think im considered *one of the pretty people*

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

re: thiness. i say don't even think or worry about it. live a normal life not worrying about it, and try to become comfortable with the way you are, because when you start trying to change yourself it can get unhealthy. There are enough problems without worrying about waistlines! And it really isn't that important in the grand scale of things. everyone finds someone. even prole, who i hear is somehow married :)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Intense maternal instinct or peer pressure?

I wonder...

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

I get that Froggy: "Where are you from?"
I've had people thinking I'm - Spanish, Indian, Greek or Polish.
All I know is that my family are from the Mediterranean somewhere - working things out geographically it could well be Greece, but wherever it is there was really no need for people to tell me that my skin is muddy and because I would look awful as a blonde I'm pretty much screwed in the relationship game....which is literal in one sense, but not in the other

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

I'm of mixed race (mother is chinese but from malaysia)
and at school I was always the bloke that everyone knew because I stood out a lot as the chinese looking one, even though I have slightly different eyes, darker skin and jet black hair.
The schools in question were in Wokingham and Tavistock, Devon and both town's have hardly any people of an ethnic minority.
In my year there were 4 people including me who were from ethnic minorities.
I never really encountered any kind of racist abuse luckily, there will always be a few twats but me and my mates always sorted them out.

PS Psyche and FRF, you both sound lovely

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Thanks Tosh :) You don't sound half bad yourself.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

We all have different tastes. Everyone's attractive to someone. Some people are fortunate enough to be attractive to everyone, while others are Vanessa Feltz.

Don't get hung up about it. The less people focus on your looks, the more chance you've got of developing a functioning personality.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Haha Lanky, great description. Nobody is really attractive to everyone though. I'd say Psyche and Freerange, once you move off to university and meet more people you'll see that your look will be appreciated by some and not by others, just like everyone else's.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Good point. In a school situation these things get twisted. Boys only allow each other to fancy certain girls, so there's a lot of lust that dare not speak its name.

Dunno what it's like with girls, but I expect there's a lot of bitchiness and oneupwomanship going on with regard to looks. I've never come across this with blokes (possibly because admitting one bloke is uglier than another means the other is more attractive... and if you find another bloke attractive you're automatically gay).

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

DOH!!!! I mean Tom!!!!
*Damn my feeble head*

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Was funnier first time!

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Definitely. I've got images of The Bill in my head now. Good old Tosh...

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

He was the bloke with the paintbrush moustache?
The bloke on that Geronimo program looks just like him

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

I'm sure you're very funny too, Tom.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Oh and thanks Ukjmr! Thats where I got the Tosh bit from.

I remember Tosh - sad what happened to him, alchoholic wife beater who came out of rehab and straight into the pub and then dead in a gutter.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Maybe I should have added he was once an adoring family man whose kids loved him.
Not with it today.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Yeah, that's the one. That was only down the road from where I used to live. He was a local hero amongst our group of friends.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

He was the hero of everyone who watched The Bill.
That programme used to be all right - now its full of ardent feminists who spend more time having a bunk up in the cells with PC Plod than catching any criminals.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Scandal! Psyche, take that back! It's the best thing on TV by a country mile! I heart The Bill 4eva.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Yeah if you like seeing WPC Ironpants getting it on with PC Hardcastle in the back of the Sun Hill Canteen while Jimmy The Scumbag sets fire to the station and no one notices because Polly Page and her crew of canteen hags are gossiping about how PC Carver can't get an erection.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Exactly! By a country mile, I tell ya!

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

This is actually more perplexing than Mornington Crescent.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

I like Bamos - he makes me smile and sometimes laugh.
Gotta love him.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

...and he's from Swad...

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Psyche, you make me sound like a pet chinchilla or something ;)

And ukjmr, I prefer it if you say Gresley actually :)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Castle or Church, sir? :-)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Church, and proud. Within (literal) spitting distance of the magical Moat Ground. Oh yes. My, what a sad claim to fame... ;)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Up the Rovers? Does that make me a Repton Casuals fan?

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

If the cap fits...;)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Chinchilla? Couldn't you be a Jack Russell instead?

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

At least let me be a proper dog, with a bark and stuff. I don't want to be the sort of dog that gets stood on, no matter how nippy I am. I'd see myself as more of an Alsatian :)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Forget dogs, you were better off as a chinchilla. Only 50% of women will approach an alsation, think of the stroking and cooing...

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Nah, because you're in a fairly enclosed community there's bound to be a bit of a herd mentality in terms of people's tastes. I know plenty of guys who go for skinny girls and it has nothing to do with repressed homosexuality! Ignore the body fascists.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

i've noticed that as a child when you're slightly different-looking, boys don't dig you all that much. but then when you're older, it is you looking slightly different, rather than regular and run-of the mill, that makes you a bit more striking and attractive. i dunno, this is what kinda happened with me. not many people know where i'm from. haha, it's cool.

to the girl who got dissed at school (with olive skin, dark eyes), just savour the fact you look different. isn't it much better to stand out than look like everyone else? i do understand how it got you down to begin with, but believe me, it's a plus point, my dear! ok, this hasn't really answered the thread's opener, but, meh.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Thank's Chrispy :)

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

when i said 'child', i meant 'younger person/teen'.

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Bamos - Jack Russells do NOT get pushed to the back, their way too fiesty. I have two and the smaller one whose a tiny little dog takes on Rottweilers!

Re: the girl guy thing figures and attractive

Crikiey Chiaroscuro....so Mrs Knees is a body facist?....I won't actually pass that on to her.

Actually she thinks she is reacting against a form of body fashism in the first place....i.e. why are almost all models stick like?.....of course this sort of things lead people to react and swing too far the other way......that does kind of lead on to the utter pointlessness of fashion .....advertising,fashion,movies,tv presenters, newspapers are the true body facists i.e. they are not reacting to defend themselves, they just continue to peddle good looking people to the punters, cos they think the punters are such dumb lowly animals. (maybe slightly true but reinforced by their actions)
My biggest gripe is in the terrestial TV's news readers....this is meant to be serious stuff.......have you ever seen a fat newsreader? (especially a large woman?) I especially hate it whne the anchors consist of an older man (who is allowed to look slightly craggy and serious) and a younger (attractive..very made up, but wearing clothes slightly too sensible for her age).
(actually I hate it even more when the channels try to INJECT jocularity and informality into their presenters)

Its awful that such a body as
