Andrew WK playing ATP is a crap idea.

Would you vote for Tenacious D to play? Of course not because it would be a bad joke. You guys can pretend to like Andrew WK all you like but I won't believe it. Party Hard was a pretty bad song that you only liked because at the time you were tired of The Strokes.

:D

I agree

it would ruin ATP. Although really it would be a crap idea because i'm not going.

You think AWK

is a joke band?
Why?

I thought it was all a joke by Dave Grohl?

He wrote all the songs on the first album...

Just like

Carter USM wrote all of 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not', you mean?

you do TOTALLY

give kurt russell a bad name

YES

except I'm sure Carter USM would have done a better job than that

Exactly.

i.e. they're both bollocks rumours. i doubt Grohl could write something as majestic as 'I Get Wet'.

LOL

I totally agree.

I agree lots and lots and lots.

Yes, I'm with Soup100

because she is cool!

here here

fuck awk up the arse

i've

never seen a more beautiful act in the history of mankind

I hope he does play

It would make a change to all the post-rock bands playing to be honest, if he does play you can watch someone else anyway.

that video

has just made my day and its only 11.20. :-D

He's not joking though.

I mean, he is a bit, because he's mostly a noise musician, but he knows what makes a good dumb rock record.

Petitioning is fine and everything

but people should really be voting/petitioning for something that's actually good. As opposed to someone who will be really fun and exciting sandwiched in between a load of boring indie/post rock bands. If the fans were voting for stuff that was actually good we wouldn't need WK!

les savy fav

apples in stereo

aren't boring. so ner!

I really have no idea

what Apples In Stereo is, am I missing much?

sssshh

look he said les savy fav.

can't wait <--- i might sign all my atp post like this, beacuse it's so very true

That's two

out of seven!

neither are modest mouse

but i agree otherwise, too much postrock

NO

Yes.

If you want Reading then you go there. ATP is for something a bit better than your normal festival beered up fodder.

oh, Theo

why does 'better'

equal 'post rock'?

I prefer it to Andrew WK

That's why.

The point really

is that 'too much post-rock' isn't actually how I'd describe the ATP vs. Fans line up in any case so I can only assume that Jamie is lumping together everything that might conceiveably have the word 'post' infront of it, be they Battles, Shellac, Les Savy Fav or Explosions in the Sky.

But it's certainly a much better line up musically than most festivals because the bands are better.

i wouldnt

lump in les savy fav or shellac with the others, they've got songcraft and excitement and aceness, whereas if there are any more bands like explosions in the sky added to the lineup it would bore me to tears

Yeah but ATP routinely has lots of post rock bands

so given I can only spot maybe 3 post-rock acts in the current line up it's clearly got less than the normal quota.

To complain there's too much post-rock at ATP would be the same as complaining there's too much rock at Reading.

But

there IS too much rock at Reading.

the fan votes

have been awesome, in general. Yo La Tengo! Modest Mouse! Explosions In The Sky!

EITS really isn't up

to much. DULLLLLLL.

Totes.

Sadly I have been really disappointed so far with what's been coming out of this whole "fan" business. And having Andrew WK just smacks of a really shit idea.

I really don't get the Andrew WK thing

It's just a loud, bad noise.

You all sadden me

It's fun! Let some fun in!

To quote one bobbygeorge,

"I don't want fun, I like my music po-faced."

"Fun" is "Mr Blobby"

Yeah that's your "Fun".

Fun can fuck off.

Was this before or after

he played We Don't have To Take Our Clothes Off when he DJed?

DJedi?

H eplayed Djed

by Tortoise. All 21 minutes of it. He was thrown out soon after.

It might have been after that

but before he played Jon Secada.

I watched that YouTube on Jamie Summers' page

It was dismally uninteresting. The guy has energy and stuff but he seems to have forgotten to write any actual songs.

Mr WK knows how to party

anyone who tries to argue otherwise is just silly. a lot of excellent music seems to have been curated withot much to party to, having never been, a i don't know exactly what there is in terms of deejaying after the bands, but just one fun party act would be excellent. If that party act is Mr WK then that would be the best.

I Get Wet is a fantastic album

It's just fun rock n' roll. I went to see him 5 years ago in Liverpool and he put on a fantastic live show too.

This is the kind of music snobbery from a typical ATP fan.

pffft

Yeah. So what?

We like the festival the way it is. Toned down and slightly educational. If I wanted to gurn about and have lots of fun to something I already know about then I'd go to Reading.

Just me?

Well no, but I'd like to think that my fellow pals would have a different taste to mine which would not reflect the top 30 in anyway.

I sincerely doubt

you'll have not heard most of the bands.

Is that...

the royal 'we'?

Yes.

*nonchalant wave*

Snobbery?

I'm fairly sure the voting thing actually says something like "Don't vote for shit bands".

SO WHO VOTED FOR HOT CHIP, HUH?

shitlivebandLOL?

WHATEVS. I'll be happy if he does a set, as I enjoy him. Other than that, whatever.

I'm going to say whatever again, as I like it. Whatever.

I DON'T KNOW WHO VOTED FOR THEM, GODDAMMIT!!

Shall I set up a petition on the Downing Street site to find out?

Whatever.

Yeah, it's good. Whatever.

I know

I'm joking. I'm just trying to have fun. I feel like people hate me now. Don't hate me. I'm a very fragile chap :'(

Dunno. I was just having fun too

I'm not even going to be there...

Arr

I don't mind him playing at all, I'll just head to the pub and watch people do bad karaoke. That's the beauty of ATP!

ZACTLY

I mind

Because I hate fun

LOL

AREN'T I FUN!?

Hmmmm

I'm hungover. I don't know what I'm on about. The lineup actually looks pretty impressive.

Here's an idea though, if you don't want to see Andrew WK, I'm sure that there will be something else on at the same time. I doubt his presence will really make any difference to the festival. GET OVER IT!

Personally speaking

it just seems like Andrew WK is as out of place at ATP as he would be at a folk festival.

Well, he's there anyway

playing bass with Current 93. So he might as well play just a little set for me. Just for me. As a treat. As he's already there. For me.

Whatever.

Or, insert 'YOU'RE out of place at ATP' response. Depending on how you feel.

He seems pretty amiable

You could probably make him do an improv set if he doesn't get an official one.

He's all about the party.

That's true.

I like that aspect of him, I think he's probably fun to be around.

You should get him to play a party in your cabin

I reckon he'd be up for that.
Go on Bamos ask him nicely.

That's Plan B

if he doesn't do an official set. I reckon he'd be well up for it.

Yeah you know it

he seems a fun time kinda guy.
I bet he's all about the cabin party.

i disagree

he's very much a cult act, and he doesn't tour the UK much. isn't that what most of the ATP lineups are built on?

mm

he's a classically trained musician who has been in tons of noise acts including Wolf Eyes, performing a sort of post-modern yet deadly serious ultra stylised party rock which isn't really particularly 'normal' at all.
plus his band includes the drummer from OBITUARY!

I think the anti-WKs are aware of the fact that we don't have to watch him

and if that was the point people of my disposition were trying to make then you'd be right to call us simple-minded oafs. However what I was, in particular, trying to say very badly is that I like the way ATP is in that it is not packed with more mainstream acts because that means that it either in some small way influences the clientele into being not of the mainstream type (not that I have anything against them, we just differ in our passions) or creates a more responsive and quiet crowd because it's hard to get all blibbery sometimes about a day full of bands you don't know. NOT THAT I AM SAYING the entire line-up should be full of utterly obscure bands, I am just saying that I don't like the way the line-up is going. Or hinting at going. Or whatever.

Also I think Andrew WK is shit.

andrew wk

isn't mainstream. his albums sold diddly squat.

HURRAH THE PEDANT ARRIVES

I didn't say he was mainstream. My initial point was about my opinion over the bands that are being selected by the fans. I then added to this point and introduced some relevance with "I think Andrew WK is shit"

yes

but it's to be expected.

and i dunno, if it is the standard ATP crowd (which i suspect it isn't entirely), then i find it quite heartwarming that while they may have 'mainstream' tastes (oh noes!) they're also quite prepared to go to a festival that mostly consists of bands they've never heard of.

hell, that's certainly the reason i go.

are you saying you don't like the way the line-up is going

because you think it's 'mainstream'?! That's bizarre. Do a poll in your office and see how many bands your colleages have heard of! I think the line-up is brilliant at the moment, is better than a lot of ATP line-ups have been, and can only get better.

i can kindof see the point

she's making - the 'fans' choice is very big-act-top-heavy, which doesn't seem very logical, as if people don't really understand ATP. all of the smaller bands so far are coming from the ATP selections, and that does seem to be causing them some problems (hence putting offers out to 50/75/100 bands).

although i'm not really sure why barry hogan et al expected anything different.

i don't think we'll be seeing another Vs The Fans ATP..

well, yes

and Barry's new system is a good idea. But don't most of us like those 'big' bands? And that's why we're voting for them? They're all ATP type bands anyway.

I have just lost

any respect for him that I did have 5 minutes ago....

"Also, Andrew will soon be writing songs with band Hanson for the third annual "Fool's Banquet" songwriting retreat."

Which was quite

a bit.

hanson + andrew wk

could create the catchiest pop rock song of all time.

Let's get Hanson to join the chalet party

the girl who plays the drums is hott.

:D

this needed credit.
