Did you watch the NME Awards t'other night? I did. I saw Jarvis Cocker and The Gossip's Beth Ditto destroy Heaven 17's 'Temptation'. "Awful" was pretty much my verdict. Predictably enough someone disagreed...
Cocker (pictured) and Ditto are to release the song properly, and will record it in the next few weeks. Says a source:
"Jarvis thought the NME performance was the ideal place to unveil the collaboration as he knew it was going to be out on TV, thus getting maximum exposure. They are scheduled to record the song in the next couple of weeks and with luck, touring commitments won't get in the way and it'll be on sale very soon."
That's not our source. We're quoting from elsewhere. All of our sources are deep underground following that pie and mash disaster. Seriously, chicken and steak in the same pie? It's NOT right.
this is one of those
"COME ON!" moments where part of your musical soul dies.
This cover
is terrible. I'm really surprised at Jarvis, he's usually too smart for these kind of rock star cliches. That said, it was Beth Ditto that ruined it for me, people always comment on the 'soul' in her voice, but I haven't heard it.
her voice
isn't that great. maybe it sounds good to an indie kid used to crap delivery but it's just not that impressive and often flat
That was truly awful
at the NME awards.
Who has decided otherwise?!
well it was no worse than
kasabian, the killers and primal scream really was it. utterly crap show allround, but cocker and ditto werent the worst bit.
not happening
jarvis's's's's's PR denied it today.
THANK GOD
AND THANK PIXIEBELL
i fucking hope they did
jesus once is enough! why jarvis why!?!
Did anyone else think this would involve
Joe Cocker? Anyone? No?
yes
me! see below!
i just watched this on youtube
its quite good until the chorus, when its revealed that its a) glam swung and b) shit
I thought their
rendition at the NME was passable.
Although that Ditto creature scares the shit out of me.
Hardly Ciao!
I had high hopes for this after his excellent collaboration with Lush for the song Ciao! a few years ago. It certainly didn't live up to that benchmark.
LOLing
From the headline alone I imagined Joe Cocker and Beth Ditto - now that would be funny! :->
I like both..
Jarvis and the Ditto lady, yet i thought that performance was LAME. It didn't even work in a discordant Dylan and Cash sorta way.
I liked it
Jarvis' vocals were pretty weak though, probably because I was comparing it with beths
I don't like either.
I shall ignore this song.
they really
didnt' think before they did that song did they..
she is awful in it.
and he sank to produce whatever that was...
hope to god they don't release it.
Not the best
I've heard from either person.
They should have a go at Ebony and Ivory.
But i really think there is a future for them as a light enertaintment act, singing and comedy. They could have a show called Cocker & Ditto's Laugh In, where they would feature as hosts and be surrounded by an adaptable ensamble cast, made up of
Christopher Ecclestone (being funny and not all northern, I should clarify, actualy playing the part and not his character)
Steve Martin (on the wain but could do with the experience)
Tracy from corrie
Bradly Walsh
Faith Brown
Some of S club 7
And some kind of flamboyant homosexual
It would be a laugh/riot.
It should be on a Wednesday night at 7pm BBC1 or ITV. I'd prefer the beeb as ITV is shite.
