US nu-metal outfit Korn have told a Los Angeles radio station that their next album - their eighth in all - will be a "less straightforward" affair than previous offerings.
Guitarist James Shaffer, a.k.a. Munky, told Launch Radio Networks that the band's new album would be "a lot more technical", too:
"I think it's probably more like a progressive Korn that people are gonna be used to. Very heavy though."
The record's due for release on July 17, and is untitled at the moment. The band's Unplugged album - yes, Korn unplugged - is out now.

i really liked
the first two korn albums, still do.
And some of that stuff was a bit strange (but then, nu-metal was strange and new back then - ye gods i'm sounding old). Twist was not the most obvious way to start an album, lot's of warped guitar tones.
Unfortunately not a single decent lyric or riff from them for ages...
Korn promise less
pretty much sums it up. I could almost cope with the usual cold servings of last decade's hard-boiled down-tuned riffs if there had been some kind of maturity and progression in the lyrics and depth of musical scope...but alas. Full marks to Head for ditching Davis for Jesus.
Bring on a new Will Haven album instead!

Korn - Korn
I used to like it when I was a hormonal teenager. Now I am a sophisticated urban dweller with a garden and three suits. But I still like it. This album, and Deftones - Adrenaline made nu metal. I wish they unmade it now, but that's besides the point.
NU-Metal is turning Prog Rock
A much more progressive sound? Where have I heard that before..... O yea thats what Linkin Park have promised, sounds like a movement to push Prog Rock onto Angsty kids to me.
