Slightly bored here...

If you could make a band up of any members from other bands, past or present, dead or alive. Who would it consist of? and what would it sound like? They don't necessarily have to be the best technically.

e.g. mine would be:

Vocals - Ian Curtis (Joy Division)
Guitars - Johnny Marr (The Smiths)
Bass - Bruce Foxton (The Jam, Stiff Little Fingers)
Keys/Weird Noises - Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead)
Drums - Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumkins)

I think they'd sound kind of odd and melodic, and probably depressing as hell.

There ya go...

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

that would be Smashing PumPkins... sorry...

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Vocals/Guitars - Bright Eyes
Guitars - Thurston Moore
Bass - Kim Deal
Drums - Alan Wren
Keyboards - Brian Eno
Electric Viola - John Cale

Don't even ask me what that would sound like

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

agrh, these things annoy me cos i always think of loads of guys with conflicting styles that couldnt make a band.....actually heres one which would work
[from the cds i listen most right now]

+ vocals/guitar - jonah matranga (far/onelinedrawing/newendoriginal/gratitude)
+ vocals/guitar - jenny lewis (rilo kiley)
+ bass - jon pearce (reuben)
+ drums - clint schnase (cursive)
+ with guest keys/strings etc

they'd play uplifting slightly-poppy warm heartfelt rock music ... and probably get called emo by the people who don't "get it"

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

id like em, just cos the bloke from reuben is in it! Im sure someone did this a few weeks back. oh well.

guitar: matt bellamy (muse)
guitar: tom morello (audioslave/RATM)
bass: ME! or flea (RHCP)
vocals/keys: brandon flowers (killers)
drums: matt tong (bloc party)

theyd play some noisy-pop-synth-metal with some slap bass solos thrown in. oh yes.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

that sounds like an amazing band...

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

I would rather have Craig Bellamy on guitar I think

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

The ultimate weird sounding band of epic feedback is as follows:

Guitars - Thurston Moore/Johnny Greenwood
Drums - Drum machine.
Everything Else - Kevin Shields

If you don't soil youself at that prospect then you have a stronger spinchter muscle than I.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Me on everything. Hurry up, cloners.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Or:

Bjork and her Inuit choir on vocals, with Johnny Greenwood on the vocal sampler, alternating with David Bowie and Beth from Portishead.
Aphex Twin on drum machine. Keith Moon on drums.
The New York Philharmic Orchestra on... orchestra. With Phillip Glass composing, in collaboration with Aphex and Bjork.
Corgan & Hendrix on guitar. Peter Hook on bass.
The Flaming Lips' dancing animals (and why not the whole band playing too). The Macy's Day parade baloon floating over in the sky.
The Pink Floyd light show.

fucking too right.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

It was OK until Pink Floyd...... Christ. Don't encourage them

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Their LIGHT SHOW fool.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

oooh a giant wicker man to burn down at the end. and that guy out of the prodigy running his giant plastic hamster ball over the crowd. it would be amazing! the stupidest, most fun gig ever! we can but dream. for now though - guys in jeans playing a minor. *sigh*

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Yes dear, and only fools like light shows

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

wooooooooooooow.

i will buy their cd.

*thinks*

...damn.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Only fools like light shows??
You, sir, are a visually illiterate fool.
I guess your perfect gig would have a single swinging lightbulb to keep it real?

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

hahahaha

*applauds*.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Visually illiterate? I guess that makes you very aurally illiterate if you like Pink Floyd.

I have no problem with moderate lighting for gigs no, but huge walls and laser shows only disguises what dross is being played by fucking long-haired hippies who don't know when to stop.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

How can you be aurally illiterate for liking a light show? I am bored of you now because you make no sense. Bye.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

You had no need to put *visually* illiterate, so because you are not yet clever enough to understand that I was mocking your futile use of the word, you obviously got a bit confused. Poor lamb.

Can you be anything but visually illiterate? I ask you!

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

The condescending tone is a little pathetic. To clarify: visual literacy is a term used to describe understanding of the visual arts, colour, light and form. You don't even know what it means, never mind being visually literate yourself.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

I read that as Coogan on guitar - thought you were trying to sneak your way into it...

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

thats more than a little good.
MORE BRASS! MORE BRASS!

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Vocals and guitar - Aaron Turner (Isis)
Guitar, FX 'n' shit - Kurt Ballou (Converge)
Drums - Brann Dailor (Mastodon)
Bass - I dunno, who has a favourite bassist? - ooh maybe the guy from DFA 1979. Or Sunn 0)))

I think I'd need some crazy electronics in there too. Maybe Squarepusher? And maybe a delicate female vocalist too, to lure you into a false sense of security. Can't think of who particularly. And strings. EVIL strings. And backing vocalists who fire assault rifles into oil drums. And the sound of dogs barking, glass shattering and large piles of wooden crates falling over.

This band would play some kind of dystopian post-metal/metallic hardcore/grindcore/electronica crossbred hammering-fucknoise which sounds like the world being systematically dismantled by screaming 40 ft. metal sharks, and would almost certainly make anybody come in their pants, or die instantly if they heard it.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Ive done this too many times on here.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Bjork, of course, for vocals - hope you don't mind if I borrow her. And that reminds me, scratch Turner - Mike Patton for vocals too. No, actually, both of them. Lots of vocals. And Jacob Bannon from Converge hurling himself around the stage, snarling his lungs out like a stabbed banshee.

And Scott 'Prefuse 73' Herren can help Squarepusher out with the electronics. And lots of pieces of industrial machinery, which are actually full members of the band and get paid royalties and everything. And lightning-breathing tigers.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Can I borrow your tigers? You can have my wickerman in exchange.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Deal, but I'm not sure I could promise to get the wicker man back to you in one piece.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

mine would be:

radiohead. yes, all of them,
muse. "
pink floyd. (and, no, not just the light show)
bjork on vocals and inspiration technique...

erm..

and me on vocals because i wanna be in a band, but nobody will have me.
hendrix on guitar...

keith from the old prodigy...
for pure image reasons..hehehe.
erm...and what the heck, throw some emo child in there for a completely mixed up effect.

and drum machines and tribal drums.

and the result would be: a drug of some kind with those small symbols that go 'ting'.
and loudness and kerfuffle.

:)

well, i like it anyway.
x

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

I sincerely cannot believe that prog (in the negative sense - Pink Floyd, etc, rather than the positive sense - M83) seems to be back in fashion.

Christ. I was watching the making of Dark Side Of The Moon on Friday night and that song with the woman yelling on the end sounded like that god forsaken KFC advert.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

I'd go for sure. sounds better than the kaiser chiefs... :)
more imagination! less formula! yes!

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Ah! Someone else who sees little merit in the Kaiser Chiefs. I feel less lonely now.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

go where, may i ask?

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Tom waits
Aretha franklin
Dave grohl
Cage
The liberator dj's
Karen O

After show parrty alone would be immense

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

may i add the gal from the yeah yeah yeahs?

as a dancer.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Mark Lanegan - Vocals
Tom Morello - Guitar
Ben Shepard - Bass
Dave Grohl - Drums
Will Ferrell - Cowbell

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Mark Lanegan is great.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

My ultimate dream band would consist of:
Vocals: John Davidson (celebrated Tourettes sufferer and star of "John's Not Mad")
Guitar: Guitar Wolf (Of "Guitar Wolf")
Drummer: Animal (Of "The Muppets")
Bass: My mate Martin (He's really good on bass)
Bez duties: Geoffrey (This really fucking crazy guy I went to school with- crazy in a genuinely quite scary way. Used to repeatedly smack himself on the head really hard in history lessons)
Obviously this band could only actually happen in a dream.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

This is my worst one, just for fun.

Drums: Meg White
Bass: Sid Viscious or Carlos D (Interpol)
Guitar: Noel Gallagher
Vocals: Morrissey or Ian Curtis

*sits in corner* *waits*

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

drums - Danny Carey (Tool)
Bass - Mani (stone roses)
Guitar - Simon Neil (Biffy)
Guitar - Mark Knopfler
Vox - Mike Patton (Faith No More etc)

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

vocals - michael barrymore
drums - matthew kelly
bass - paul dickov
keys - magnum p.i.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

Isn't 'the mag' dead?

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

jah wobble, keith moon and alan vega: happy happy joy joy!

i would have loved that band.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

I hope not he looks like my dad

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

You could do alot worse than Carlos D from interpol, he gets the job done at least. Is 'Evil' all that bad?

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

1)vocals: tom waits
2)vocals: ian curtis
3)vocals: nick cave
4)vocals: brad roberts (who was the guy from the crash test dummies)
or maybe 4)Johnny Cash. Whoever sings lower.

it'd be a barbershop quartet, but completely unlistenable. They'd look good on stage though.

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

carlsberg don't make barbershop quartets but if they did . . .

Re: Ultilmate dream band thingy.

bass- me
drums- Paul, drummer from my old band
vocals/guitar- steve mason (beta band)
vocals/guitar- josh homme (qotsa)
added noise- merzbow

it would be unlistenable and no one would get on... what fun!
