Renowned karaoke scout Simon Cowell has announced his dissatisfaction that Sony BMG are quite so content to fill Bruce Springsteen's pockets with shrapnel whilst he continues his pursuit to pad the charts with such a quality brigade of artists (See McManus, Brookstein, etc.) for a cut of the cost.
Speaking on Stateside programme 60 Minutes the X-Factor/American Idol oracle judged himself as worth five times the $100,000,000 (£51,000,000) deal The Boss recently secured.
"In the last five years, I've probably sold over 100 million records. If [Springsteen] got 100 [million dollars], I should have got 500 [million dollars]" Cowell bemoaned to CBS affiliate Anderson Cooper.
However, dry those eyes readers, Cowell is not quite out of pocket yet. As well as the deal he currently has penned with Sony, he continues to make a further £20m from quality UK entertainment channel ITV, as well as a separate deal with Fox in The United States of America.
This follows previous remarks regarding fellow folk-rock fellow Bob Dylan, when Cowell queried: "Do I prefer Kelly Clarkson's music to Bob Dylan's? Yes. I've never bought a Dylan record. A singing poet? It just bores me to tears."

as a lowbrow tv whore i do enjoy the odd episode of American/Pop Idol. and Cowell is consistently right on the mark in his assessments of contestants, and often quite amusing whilst he does it. he's better than any of the other two-faced cunts.
ok so he's unleashed some absolute turds into the charts, and he is a right smug git. but the man knows his shit when it comes to talent/marketability. and my cynical side respects that in him.
as for the Bruce/Dylan comments, he has full right to say them. i can't imagine the Boss is that much of a moneyspinner any more (though i love some of his older stuff) and if he's never bought a Dylan album, so what? its his freakin prerogative.

i'm literally lost for words. Bruce doesn't sell Born In The Usa volumes anymore, but few do. He's got a bigger fanbase than most and one loyal enough to guarantee all of his records sell a few million.
Plus I imagine Sony are probably cribbing something from his phenomonally lucrative live shows.

And Bruce never plays too any less than 100,000 (or so it seems) in America and i bet the tickets cost a fair bit.
Bruce has never lost popularity, he's not in Heat magazine or on Popworld. But he doesn't need to be. And his back catologue of work passes down beautifully.
He is one of the few artists who, like Dylan, will always be relevant and will sell records long after he dies.
Simon Cowell's artists have limited shelf lives and a back catologue that lay in the bargain bins of Woolworths for £1.99 alll over the country.

of the first UK Music Hall of Fame programme when they were doing profiles of all the nominees for people to be put in. On the Robbie profile Dennis Waterman said, "Robbie Williams is the greatest music artist ever produced."
I'm not sure what's worse - the idea that Robbie Williams is an "artist," or the idea that an artist is "produced" like a product. His justification was clearly implied to be because money-making = final aim of music.
It's the attitudes of people like this that mean the music industry is slowly dying. Anything that has any real talent and innovation is deserting its vice-like grip to the independence of the internet, whilst the plastic pop gets left behind as another product on the shelf.

as is laughing with his accountant that he's got away with it for so many years to date, he's played the system beautifully for every penny (e.g. he used to sneak in to recording studios when one of his acts was on a lunch break, play a triangle or something, and get paid as well as the main musicians who wrote the song) and I'm sure he realises he's added nothing to any sort of culture worth noting...
