i love that bit.
it's, like, so unifying. i just want to hug everyone.
what a song, what a band, what a genre, what an ERA!
bleugh.
Man, I love you/
There should be more handclaps in...
...heavy songs.
..
its true though right? what the hell? why? what are they thinking? and people actually like this. i dont even know what the lyics are but i know one song is called scratchcard glory? what...
what a funny reason to slate a band
for their song titles?
...which you got wrong anyway. Tsk.
i walked pas a massive crowd outside hmv earlier
and i think enter shikari were in there. it was like beatlemania with straightened hair and black zip hoodies.
*past
Honestly?
Based on 30 seconds of the Youtube clip posted above I'm really thinking Linkin Park II.
Not a chance
That's too nice a thing to say about them
Yeah , a little bit
Also influenced quite a bit by utter bollocks and pile of crap. Nice bit of diversity in there.
They're wank...
might go see them at Leeds though, get pissed up, they can't be that bad when you're slaughtered.
they remind
me of a part in a song by The Faint where there like a heavy breakdown with synths. Except like, really, really pathetic and shit. Y'know.. like...REALLY SHIT... LOL! absolute gash.
They aren't actually that bad.
It's just DiS fashion to hate them right now.
They're better than blandathon bands like Snow Patrol simply because they're interesting. And I'd also argue they are to be commended for trying something newish.
Let's give them the John Peel Award!
I still haven't heard this band.
They're currently the band
to slag off if you like indie or singer-songwriters, and have no interest in metal.
Did you really expect to like them?
Er...
No.
They really are plain shite.
No
They are not plain shite.
You can argue that they are very interesting innovative shite.
But you cannot argue that they are plain shite.
That's Snow Patrol.
ok
theyre just utter shite
I much prefer 'metal' to indie
and yet I hate them? And I've also seen them live. Long before the hype, although they already seemed to think they were the shit back then anyway.
agreed
they make my soul weep. quite a challenge considering a chapstick has no soul...or ears...hmmm
what a load of fucking rubbish...
...what annoys me the most about these gutless turds, is the fact that the media keep harping on about how "They shunned the majors and are doing it their way!" Yeah well, about tweleveteen other bands have had the same kinda setup, it's hardly groundbreaking. Once they lose that distribution deal, and they will, they're fucked.
Wankers.
And what's with the stupid hand claps. Music for silly teenage girls.
I think everyone's problem here
Is their over-exposure in the media. I'm certain if everyone from the music press wasn't regarding them so highly, then you wouldn't really have a problem with it.
Enter Shikari are a band that caters for the teen market. Their music is exciting, and it makes the fans feel part of something. We have all wanted that at some point.
Yeah, they're nothing new. They don't intend to appeal to the 'indie' market anyway. Leave them alone. It's getting boring now.
Gigs
My old band did a few gigs with them. The only reason they got any exposure is because they won a battle of the bands that offered them a slot at the astoria (they won the 17 and under bracket, my band won the 17 plus bracket and turned the gig down because they insisted we take 100 people with us.) They seem like ok people, but the music pissed me off, just gimmicky emo.
...
HORSE the band anyone?
CONTROVERSIAL
I saw them play yester - they are actually a really good fun live band. And apparently I'm not alone in thinking that - HMV was RAMMED like never before. And lovely people to boot.
So, in conclusion, yeah. They're good.
.
Who's the fittest!?111
I like metalcore and hardcore
hell I even like some emo. I find Enter Shikari to be boring in terms of these genres. They do nothing innovative, but then innovation rarely sells like they do. There's nothing innovative about placing obnoxious synths in all the points where it feels like it should be quiet.
I feel that yes you can successfully mix synths and metalcore, but Enter Shikari are not the band to do it in their current state. They use it as a gimmick rather than as an integral part of their songwriting, and you can hear that from the way it all sounds horribly disjointed. Perhaps when they mature a bit they might become a bit better...
sorry
you're not a winner.
I was thinking this, there's no way they can pedal another album of that nonsence cross-over, the fad will pass. I assume they're a one trick pony tho.
True, the shitty eurotechno they play is terribly annoying.
But there is a place for synths in previously non-synth areas!
they should have won the
'john peel would have looked slightly embarrased and frowned heavily before wandering off' award, that's the biggest sacriledge for me, they're alright I guess, for a pop band, but edgy? innovative? there were jokes about this back in 1993 with grunge bands standing round a synthesizer wondering what it did...
I like them
it makes me jump around, smile.
They aren't disjointed - the music mix is refreshing and it really works with their dynamics.
Pop band? Are they played on Captial Radio? Heart FM? I don't think so...
Arrogant indie kids just pissing on something for the sake of it...
lollercaust
Their music is disjointed. Fact pie. Their tracks gebnerally consist of 3 or 2 peices of music carelessly stuck together, and those pices of music are meandering and unoriginal.
LETS MAKE THE EARTH SHAKE, LETS MAKE THE GROUND MOVE!
seriously...
Have you heard the album?!
They are called time changes and they work really well and its a refreshing change to the "by the numbers" indie and rock thats flooding our charts and TVs at the moment.
"Carelessly stuck together" - examples please?
If you look for example at that
Sorry You're Not A Winner track. It sounds like they came up with an intro section, then a synth hook. They decided to use the intro section for the verse and then the synth chorus just sounds wrong in contrast to it. The fact that you could come in after the first chorus and think the song had just started is testament. The synth lines are simplistic, but not in the good way, and are just played repetitively over a standard metalcore breakdown. Then that outro sounds like someone is letting their cat jump up and down on a keyboard. I'm all for dischord, but there are ways to make it sound good. This is not one of them.
Personally I'd rather listen to Crydebris.
And that's not a snide comment about Crydebris.
I genuinely love them.
But
as a song it does work - so what is the problem?! Simplistic synths are a good enough reason to slag them off.
They take the song in different directions and time changes without losing the structure - I think its great and refreshing.
*aren't a good enough reason
.
I dont think they do.
I just prefer to have the music have a sense of continuity. Crydebris did similar changes, but it still felt continuous.
And I agree simple synths aren't always bad. But these have been designed to be ripped off of the cheesiest simplistic early nineties eurotrance.
But our personal opinions on it are bound to differ. They're just not my thing, though obviously they are yours. Different strokes for different folks and all that..
Of course old bean
each to their own and all that.
I just people who say "Band X are shit because I say they are" and thats the whole argument!
The synths are a bit cheesy I agree, but I think the "rock" side of things is good and put together, it's really struck a chord in me.
I've still not heard them
Am I lucky?
I'd say
give them a chance
.
I'd say listen to HORSE the band instead.
will say this
they're a bit better than kerrang faves Cute Is What We Aim For, who are utter pop drivel, more ruthlessly targeted than an american smart bomb on an iraqi orphanage, gash.
Aaah,
a bit of gashic makes the day go a bit quicker! :-)
^BIRD!!!!!!!
Are you implying
I'm a girl or a feathered friend or even talking about me?
signed, Confused!
haha, no I was replying
to tiernan's comment about HORSE the band. (they have a song called 'Birdo' y'see.) ;)
Sigh
Is there a new I Hate Enter Shikari thread every day? Feels like it....
Album is not bad, too long though. Not the best thing ever and not the worst either.
Yawn
it's standard procedure,
the same way we have to have a thread about the Gossip, or Arcade Fire tickets every day.
It reminds me of Raz
because he was playing with my nipples at the album launch last night.
In all honesty, I haven't actually listened to enough of their music to pass judgement yet.
aural rape
To be honest
The album was better than I thought it would be....... so shoot me
I clicked on that link
i thought it was maybe going to be some electronic masterpiece and everyone was going to be wrong. I was wrong instead.
i
like them, they're awesome live! yes they may be aimed at the teenage contingent however who cares its all good pop
Pop pop pop?!?!
Are they playlisted on Captial Radio now then huh?!
pop
as in not classical or opera or folk, pop in the sense of popular music a term like indie that is often mis used, i am a pedant and i hate myself
their teeny bopper fans
trashed hmv oxford street last night
the album
is really top notch as is their past releases, and seeing them at the palais was astonishing. I just wish i had reaslised how good they are last year when they were playing venues like the Peel!!!
Their album
is the best £6.97 I've ever spent on an impulse buy at Tesco. It veers from ridiculous to ridiculously entertaining, but as a whole it's really good.
"Personally I'd rather listen to Crydebris." well, good for you. have ten indie points.
hhahahaha
post of the year
Thumbs up
I agree totally, gobshite's
this is the only thing I have heard or seen from them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4MiC67seUY
And it still cheers me up.
I die a little inside every time I see that
clapclapclapclapclapclapclap
