The Rolling Stones have been announced for this year's Isle of Wight Festival.
The pinch-faced rockers - like the Californian Raisins, but less emo - will headline on the Sunday night. The gig represents the band's first headlining slot at a UK festival.
The date comes as part of this year's 'A Bigger Bang' world tour, which begins on the 5th of June in Belgium. Isle of Wight '07 is sold out, and will also feature performances from bands like Keane, The Fratellis, Kasabian and Muse.
Got ticket?

jesus christ, could the isle of wight festival be any more conservative?
it makes V festival look like a violent gig in a squat.
true
this news just gives another reason not to cross the Solent in June.
I reckon Isle Of Wight has a cracking lineup this year
Wish I was going.
yeah but yeah but
it's my dad's 60th in June. must get tour tickets for the old boy! ;->
why the isle of white?
why?
wight.
Rolling Stones @ Glasto
would be nice.
Slane
They're are headlining Slane Castle in Ireland.
The Police are headlining the 2nd date
the rolling stones are shortly announcing
some sort of residence at the 02 (millenium dome) in the summer
remember who told you kids :D
undoubtedly...
the worst kept secret ever. this rumour was doing the rounds after last years fest, ah well give them some oxygen and hope they can last a headlining slot
me?
Aren't they dead yet?
Eurgh.
have you ever seen them?
they're still a better live band than 99% of the signed bands out there
Really?
Well maybe I've been too dismissive, I'll check 'em out.
's all about
sticky fingers
yes you have.
my personal viewpoint is that you can't dismiss anything until you know what you're dismissing.
Word.
That is true Raz
keanekasabianthefratellismuse
jesus h. that is one stinkingly boring line up. is there some sort of pact between all major festival promoters this year to see who can play it the safest?
*holds head in hands*
when was the last time
you saw a genuinely exciting set of headliners?
Who would you have then?
I read DiS a lot, and whilst I agree with a lot of the sentiment that many headliners are for He Who Reads Q, no one ever suggests a plausible set of headliners, ie not extremely obscure acts that hoi polloi havent heard of.
So, happinessguaranteed, raz etc who would you have? This isn't meant in an agressive way, but as a point of actual interest!
Simple - The Cure
& Depeche Mode
Good shout on The Cure...
but I don't think their following is enough to headline the major festivals like Reading and Glasto.
Just off the top of my head, I think my ideal headliners this year would be:
Friday: Bob Dylan
Sunday: The Pixies
Saturday: RATM
Thoughts?
Actually
Change The Pixies for The Chemical Brothers as I've never seen em live.
Interesting..
I would love to see the cure, but was mightily disappointed with the mode at benicassim last year have to say.
pixies, although they are great, still have exactly the same set list as 2 years ago.
good call chimpo
you make a good point, it is tough to come up with a great line up but i'm not paid lots of money to do so. i'll gice it a go though
Fri:The Arcade Fire
Sat: The Cure
Sun: Either Dylan or Springsteen as they're both better 'veterans' than the stones as they've actually both made great records in the last few years
The Pixies?
I saw the Pixies at Lowlands in Holland last year. I was a bit disappointed, actually, as I've heard so much about them over so many years and have really enjoyed the tracks of theirs I have heard (I haven't really listened to a lot of their albums).
It looked a lot like a fat middle aged bloke playing the guitar at a pub. Sounded a bit like that too. However, most good, enduring music takes a few listens to get into, so I'm not here to Pixie bash.
Besides, it's quite possible that if I hadn't been battling with a particularly robust ingestion of mushrooms all day, then things might have been different.
For the record, Lowlands (in Holland), is a great festival for those interested in trying something a bit different to the standard UK fare. Good bands, friendly vibe, a 24 hour dance tent, and heaps of good showers.
What's more, whilst it is in the middle of no-where, it happens to be right next door to "Wobbies World", an entertainment park with rollercoasters and the like. After I got on the shrooms, I put on make up so I looked like Alice Cooper on a bad acid day and went on a few rides. I was spaced out, but the kid sitting next to me was the one having a really weird experience when he saw me alongside him.
Isle of Wight... more like Isle of Shite...
I would rather go to Bestival...
At least the line up there doesn't make me wanna poke my eyes out with a stick...
