annoy me.
They're either good enough to warrant desiring them as a seperate track
e.g. HOTS // A crack up at the race - The Music // The walls get smaller
Or shit, enough to warrant not having them at all. i.e whatever the hell that is after 14 minutes of silence at the end of Myths Of The Near Future.
Either way no-one sits in silent anticipation for 18 minutes after an albums finished, and no-one wants such unnecessarily huge file sizes, bah
I quite like the ones at the beginning of albums
or at least the idea of them.
I mean, you get to go 'ooh! I didn't know that was there!'. Like with the Art Brut album. And you don't get the big files either. Shame they're usually rubbish though.
I also don't really understand how they work.
...
THERE'S ONE ON THE ART BRUT ALBUM???!?!?!
oh my. The only ones i can think of off the top of my head were on Guerrilla, Team Ping Pong and that 2 Many DJs album.
there's one on the start of 'silent alarm'...
which if i remember is loads of guitar effects and piano.
!!
I never knew that, just listened to it!
There's one at the start of Everyone Into Position - Oceansize
How on Earth
do I listen to this hidden Silent Alarm track?
1977
has two or three before the start. thats the first one i can remember ever doing it
Wow. Long time back.
I never heard of it until Think Tank.
I always had probs getting
to White Noise with my very old CD player.
!!!
ace
cedars
the second clearlake album has the instrumental track they always used to start their live shows with as a secret track at the start.
Art Brut secret track??
Stone Roses 2nd Coming one is AWFUL.
In Utero
Surely contains the best 'end-of-album hidden track' ever?
Eh-thang-yow
www.myspace.com/junoashes
in reply to JunoAshes
I didnt know it was there for 2 years
In Utero
That hidden track was a pain in the arse!
I was working in HMV when it was released and had so many arguements with customers when i refused to give them a refund cos "there is a song missing"
:)
around the fur
damone is a great track. pity you have to wait about half an hour to listen to it. fast forwarding not allowed. i've seen them play it live a couple of times too.
ewwwwwwwww
i forgot about that one (damone). nice.
the sunshine underground one is pretty banging.
you don't need the huge file sizes
just edit the track down when you encode it.
It's to stop people putting the disc on random
On..
White Ladder by David Gray, there is a hidden track between tracks. You go to track one and then seek back to -2:00 minutes or so. Crazy.
Those would be the ones at the beginning of albums
discussed above.
I think
you may be on to something
BEST HIDDEN
track is the one at the end of the longpigs album the sun is often out, sounds like hes singing underwater..
Best =
'Evil Dildo' at the end of Placebo's 'Without You I'm Nothing'
I fucking hate secret tracks
I can't see any point in them other than to dick the customer about.
yourcodenameis:milo
The one at the end of ignoto is good, although it is really just a continuation of the last track.
I was frustrated that the Subways put one of their singles as a 'hidden track' half and hour after the album had finished.
sigh.
Hidden tracks are pointless
The way I see it, every album should have a beginning, middle and an end. Like them things you call 'books'. Why spoil your intended ending with a tacked on song that wasn't considered good enough to join the ranks of your musical journey?! Thats why it pisses me off that the best track on BRMC's Howl is the hidden one! ARGH!!!
as a related thing
does anyone know if there's a way of ripping 'before the start' hidden tracks to mp3?
natooprackestujastiemujastieasceletooramadageeaskistoplerolamor!
The
"bonus track" on Hit To Death In The Future Head by the Flaming Lips is horrific, half an hour of panned distortion!
i've been wondering this for ages
i don't think there is.
incidentally,
if i ever record an album, i'm going to put short pieces on the minus time of every track, just to annoying people.
Best hidden track at the beginning of an album is...
Melt Banana's cover of The Damned's "Neat Neat Neat" before the first track on Charlie.
Actually, that's probably the best track ever.
^
I Like You
Don't ask how i know this but...
there's hidden tracks on the first two Robbie Williams album and then on the third there's a 15-minute silence before he says 'Nah there isn't one on this one'.
oh...
i didnt know there was ones on the START of 1977.
or the one on the end of in utero.
im so rubbish at this.
How to cut tracks short
Just do this!
Itunes has a start and end time, so if u hate a stupidly pointless intro or stupid end of track just tell itunes to end sayyyy after 4jmins (this can be done by right clicking on the track and going to file info or properties whatever in itunes) when ever u burn using itunes in the future or put onto ipod it will be THAT length. Alternativley download a music editing software and cut the end out!
I hbate them
...
They can be good. My favourite is the last track on Estradasphere's Quadropus album.
First the song. Then a few minutes of silence. Then another version of the same song with 'hilarious' alternate lyrics. Then more minutes of silence. Then "JAZZ!". End of album.
the best is on the end of
'My Brother the Cow' by Mudhoney. It's the whole of the album played backwards.
Danzig live
n he is so wasted when he plays mother live they put in another version of mother as the hidden track
i dont know if the wasted or hidden track is my favourite
...
Ah, that reminds me of the secret end of Chaosphere by Meshuggah - about 7 minutes of sine wave and then most of the album played again ultra fast and glitchy. Actually played.
Oh
I also like that lovely little bit at the end of Kid A. That probably doesn't count though does it?
If that counts, does the...
...end of a vinyl Sgt Pepper's count too?
Its got a run-out groove cut into it so that it plays the chattery bit at the end of A Day In The Life over and over and over and over and over and over...
:)
the one at the end of the first glassjaw album.
the piano song, don't remember the title.
Jawbox
when they do the cover of cornflake girl...i ran my batteries so low fast forwarding to that increadible cover
love this song
it gets lumped with a bunch of titles; 'I'm Sorry', 'Grasper' and the highly imaginative 'Secret Song'. But i think the official one is 'Losten'.
I'm
talking
about
the Glassjaw
track
by
the
way.
Listened to Reviewing the reviewers at the end of Do Dallas
today. Brutal tune
The hidden track at the end of Ether Song
by Turin Brakes is better than anything else on the album. Weird.
Mellow Gold by Beck
The hidden track at the end is brutal. Naughty Beck!
I like them.
They're weird. I like the proper hidden ones better, like in the pre-gap thing before track one, ala oceansize or, apparently, brand new's last album. But the other kind are good too. But they aren't really hidden.
Having said that, the first time I played Infinity Land and 'Pause It And Turn It Up' finished, I left the album in the cd player, and I had had it on fairly loud.
20 minutes later I nearly shit myself.
