i dont live in manchester but
the College of music was a lovely venue when I saw Magnetic Fields
oh God!
This would be amazing.
Pleeease don't let it clash with my exams.
The RNCM
is a good venue for things, actually. For a smallish seated thing at least, which is the size Pineapple Folk usually go for, isn't it?
Saying that
the downstairs room in the Zion where Bat for Lashes and Gang Gang Dance played last year at your thing worked well. It was surprisingly suited, especially for Bat For Lashes.
The Dancehouse?
I'm sure it isn't better than the college of music but people like the Trachtenburg Family have played there before and it has been prettay prettay good.
that's a day before my birthday!
yes!
Matt & Phreds jazz club or anywhere with a piano
I attended Daniel Johnston at Matt and Phreds Jazz Club last time he came to Manchester - think Pop Art v Industry put it on. Matt & Phreds was great though I'm unsure if it has the capacity would be big enough considering the rise in Daniel Johnston's profile after the documentary.
The best thing about Matt & Phreds was the fact that there was a grand piano. I would really rather see Daniel Johnston playing mostly piano and a little guitar at a concert rather than playing an electric keyboard as I have seen on video clips on the net.
please not
night and day or the roadhouse.rncm or contact would be ace.
.
nearly confirmed tickets should be on sale within days....so far Manchester Town Hall Theatre looking most likely so far
^this
a nice sit down theatre will encourage everyone to actually listen and not just talk all the way through about whether they saw the film or not.
will it be a solo show or with a band?
Do you know
where the London show is going to be yet Scott?
Thanks
.
no i dont know where the london show will be yet. it will be half solo show, half with band...with a band comprising whoever his support band is. ive been sent the music to give the support band to learn! but support secret at the moment!
Cool
sounds very exciting, can't wait! Thanks very much.
Oh and
can you pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease let us know when it is known??
that...
...happened in the Netherlands.
A band called Smutfish were supporting.
He did 3-4 songs alone, and then they joined him for the remainder of the set.
I just got back...
...from seeing him in The Hague.
And if you don't go to see him, then you're a silly silly person.
Only Daniel Johnston can stand on stage, shaking like mad, unable to tune in his guitar (and having someone come on stage to do it for him), forgetting a couple of lines, not playing a tonne of songs you'd love to hear, voice cracking, and at the end you're left open mouthed.
Saw Daniel in Brussels yesterday
He was really good, especially on his own. The full band sound was kind of dull...
But to that group of people talking on and on in flemish next to me during the songs, fuck off! and i didn't pay 16 euros to here your singing and screaming in my years you obnoxious girl in white from said group. Except after the gig when you made the whole room sing when Daniel was gone, that was cool
