Re: US v UK

On those lists it's not even a debate.

Re: US v UK

the UK is smaller than california by quite some stretch, so i'd say britain wins on size alone.

Re: US v UK

Yeah, that's a bit biased towards the old Americans. Why didn't you put some good British indie bands in?

Re: US v UK

and the arcade fire are canadians

Re: US v UK

drat , they are arent they ... ok ignore them.

i cant think of many good reasonably well known *current* british indie bands..thats the problem

Re: US v UK

few good US bands i like :interpol, killers, strokes, white stripes

but i like loads of british ones. plus american music was shit before the beatles.

Re: US v UK

Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan many many Jazz musicians.............

Re: US v UK

Most of, if not all my favourite bands are American or Canadian. Why is this? I only seem to like British bands that not many other people like e.g. Stereolab, Clinic....

Re: US v UK

didnt america invent the blues and rock'n'roll ...ie most if not all of the beatles infuences

Re: US v UK

i reckon Americ's where it's at at the mo'. I could add a fair few other bands that I'm currently loving to the USA list (Death Cab, Iron and Wine...), but not particularly for the British list off the top of my head.

Re: US v UK

yeh i tried to reply to my message and correct maself. Im going to have to apologize afterwards now. Sorry, my comment was stupid.

Re: US v UK

america is totally where its at for good bands in the current indie generation (ignoring killers/strokes/whitestripes) ...the UK hasnt really done anything to rival bands like the shins or modest mouse or anyone like that recently .... with one exception - bloc party

Re: US v UK

don't understand all the bloc party hype...

Re: US v UK

but who would win in a fight your average indi band memeber here in america or a british indi star...

lets break it down modest mouse are a ruff and tumble bunch and Interpol no doubt could hold there own, but conner olberst and the shins couldnt be of much help, But as for England its not like Pete Doherty is going to be of much good n but the rest of the libs look a bit tuff, and as for razorlight I just cant see them as much good in a fight,

Re: US v UK

British sea power would whip them all.. with branches.

Re: US v UK

actually, there were thousands of genius recordings made in the states in the late fifties to early sixties- I'm enjoying Nathanial Mayer and Bunker Hill at the moment, whilst the B**tles themselves were obscure girl group fans, as evidence by some of the covers of hard to find tracks on their BBC lp

Re: US v UK

In the spirit of this thread, I challenge the US to a duel. Have at you, Yanks.

Re: US v UK

But which side am I on? I'm half and half.

Re: US v UK

side with good music ;)

Re: US v UK

I'd rather have this lot representing us:

Patrick Wolf
Maximo Park
Futureheads
Bloc Party
British Sea Power
Coldplay
Radiohead
Franz

Re: US v UK

i think america has much better bands, always had, and always will..
the problem with british bands is , the lack of identity, they all sound exactly the same!
dont get me wrong i *cough* *cough* dont like *cough* america *cough*

Re: US v UK

theyre all about style over substance

Re: US v UK

At the moment US bands sound more British than UK bands (Killers, Dears, etc..)

Re: US v UK

Um. The Dears are Canadian, and there are plenty of stereotypically 'British'-sounding UK bands, like BSP, The Boyfriends, The Libertines/Babyshambles, Futureheads, Maximo Park, Art Brut etc.

Re: US v UK

i think the UK always has always had better bands and always will. the US always follow where british music leads. british bands pioneer where US bands replicate...radiohead and the beatles as bands will never be topped for sheer consistant brilliance and innovation

Re: US v UK

Add Clinic to that list...Internal Wrangler was genius

Re: US v UK

gree. Such a brilliant record that Internal Wrangler.

Re: US v UK

Not much competition in those lists is there?

US at the moment. UK nearly always in times gone by.

Re: US v UK

In the end, who really cares?
Theres decent bands from both sides of the Atlantic.
Let's just appreciate it.

Re: US v UK

i agree.

i mean, kasabian come from shitty leicester but they totally roxx.
