Did anyone go last night? I'm off this evening and it's going to be tight due to work with getting there at a reasonable time - curious to know whether Tilly & The Wall are worth turning up early for?
Did anyone go last night? I'm off this evening and it's going to be tight due to work with getting there at a reasonable time - curious to know whether Tilly & The Wall are worth turning up early for?
i'd say so, yes.
yes
so much so that I will be leaving once they finish if I can actually be bothered at all.
Tilly were brilliant
But didn't play anywhere near long enough. I suppose she gets tired though. Ratatat are well worth catching if you're there early.
I hated CSS before and they made me feel very old but they were kinda good.
yeah
i've seen interviews where they've said that they have to structure their sets so she doesn't get overly tired. i suppose that's why their have loads of rubbish slow songs.
.
'rubbish slow songs'??
yeah
there are like three in a row on their second album, towards the ends. with the guy singing. pooooooooooor.
Gets overly tired?
Why does she get overly tired??
tapdancer
instead of a drummer. completely knackering.
Hmm, that's quite an endorsement
Might have to work through my lunch break after all. Damn. I must admit, I am intrigued with the tap dancing....a sentence I never thought I would be guilty of typing.
^ ThingsThatFly's endorsement
not 'rubbish slow songs'
I think I saw them 8 times last year
they are probably my favourite live band the dancing an stamping adds so much to watching a band, dunno how it will come across at the astoria though.
The tap was very quiet
to start with. Hopefully the sound will be better tonight.
they
really are.
Tilly and the Wall
outshone CSS by far last night, so YES. They were scheduled to come on at 8.15, though I suppose Sundays are likely earlier than Mondays.
Hmm
8.15? Might be a stretch....hopefully it is later tonight
it'll be even earlier tonight
because g-a-y is on
I thought Tilly were a bit poor last night but there we are. CSS stormed it though.
I felt so old in that crowd it was frightning.
I could have fathered
half the audience.
you probably did
I did not spawn
that many scenesters.
Fuck
You felt old? I'm 25.....better rethink that sweater vest/sensible slacks combo I had laid out. <panics> what are the kids wearing these days? Is grunge still cool?
oh noes
im 26 :(
You can join me up in the box
by the side of the stage and criticise like those two old guys in the Muppet Show.
caught the end of Tilly
I'm glad I stayed in the pub.
CSS put on great performance-I love the front-girls dancing. we stayed right up at the back which offered a great view and room to dance.
It also meant I could see all the kids down the front and endured much rage at their pathetic attempt at glowstick usage. if you're going to get them at least have the decency to use them properly. idiots.
This may expose a glaring ignorance
on my part - but what IS the correct usage of glow sticks?
well, I don't know if it's 'correct' as such but my preferred stance
jam them down inbetween your middle 3 fingers and move them the fuck about.
they were jusy randomly waving them every now and then out of time to the music. so annoying.
Make the "rock" hand signal
that was so popular with nu-metallers circe 2001, place under your outer two fingers and over the middle two, and then shake, twisting and turnign your arms
that's what I meant
but this is a much better description!
Good advice from both of you
You've saved me a from lot of glo-stick embarrassment tonight
what the fuck is with all this tilly&thewall loving?
they're fucking SHIT! so fucking shit. i've seen them twice now unfortunately, and by god. they suck. boring. bland. meh. scenester fucks. MEH.
'scenester'?
explanation please?
the tapdancer was wearing neon.
i don't think i have to explain anymore.
^ wpotd.
oh piss off.
it's possibly the most retarded criticism i've ever seen.
ps, neon coLOLours: http://www.drownedinsound.com/resized_images/300x300/22736.jpeg
.........
totally different.
and, me saying they wore neon was explaining why they were scenesters. not why they were shit. the fact that they're uber-scenesters is just the cherry on the cake.
how are they scensters?
i seemed to have missed your long, in-depth explanation of how a tapdancing folk-pop band from omaha are so totally wicked bad down with the london indie scene MASSIVE.
beyond, obviously, some neon clothes.
you know, the ONLY way to make your posts interesting is to read them in your accent and mannerisms. then they become funny.
wow, do they fucking PAY you or something?
they sucked. and, the stupid tapdancer was completely redundant as there was a drummer. A DRUMMER.
that doesn't answer my question.
i'll explain in person on friday
as i can't be bothered right now.
i am 99% sure you'll just sit
there and shout "THEY'RE FOOKING SHOITE!" while subjecting us to more mix CDs consisting of limp bizkit and kelly clarkson, but whatEVA.
.....................
zing!
scenester?
http://tinyurl.com/2b8vvp
he's a total scenester
ps Tilly are awesome
i've heard he's
starting a new series of Jim'll Fix It when he only helps scenesters.
"hey, what up jimmy blud? you know, i'd love to totally hang out with the dudes in klaxons, that's be badass!"
"ey up lad, don't worry. jim'll fix it for... YOU!"
haha
"hey Jim, please can you fix it for me to spend a night taking coke at the Old Blue Last?"
"it'll be totally fuckin' Mexico, nowthen nowthen."
:D
so much :Ding right now.
:D
I really wish this programme existed.
i don't really think
you have any authority to call any band shit.
what, and you are?
they were rubbish. i gave my reasons.
i love the ' wall
that's it.
If you don't get it, you don't get it.
un
they were wearing stupid cloths long before scenster fucks.
why is everyone picking up on that *one* thing i said?
jesus christ.
Cos it was wrong?
and totally stupid?
....... to attempt to not call these people scenesters?
http://www.nialler9.com/blog/images/tilly.jpg
impossible.
the tutu...
just, everything. everything.
or
http://www.frankieroberto.com/weblog/images/photoblog/tilly.jpg
if their music was in any way decent i could forgive them for it.
ohmygod..
they're... WEARING CLOTHES!
also
you're making a comedy retarded judgement of people being 'scensters' just by the way they dress.
wow, me making a comedy judgement.
i never do that, do i.
i'm using the word "comedy"
in the loosest possible terms here.
can......... you not see the one on the left?
they look like the wankers who frequented Trash.
the middle one is wearing a knee length cotton floral dress
which quite possibly makes me a scenester.
listen, from the performance last night
which, as i said below, seemed uber contrived and try hard, coupled with their quite atrocious, lame, NEON, attempt at artschoolclothes wankery, all smacked of pathetic scenesterdom. THAT is why i said it.
if she was wearing those shorts
walking down the street i could understand your anger. But at her own gig, i think anybody is quite reasonably allowed to dress up a little interesting if they wanted to.
i'll reiterate with
last night they seemed uber contrived and try hard, and coupled with their quite atrocious, lame, NEON, attempt at artschoolclothes wankery, all smacked of pathetic scenesterdom.
derka derr!
what. don't you think i look good in this hat?
di derpty derpty derr.
even if that was true
is it really much different from CSS?
^^^^ dingdingdingdingding!
jackpot.
who actually ARE a band beloved of scenesters!
10 points to myfirstmine for noticing the most important point.
did i say CSS weren't scenesters?
they are, and it also irks me. BUT, their music isn't as boring and throwaway as Tilly&TW and so, i forgive them for it.
sorry, you said beloved of scenesters.
which, is true. but, that's a different point.
derka derr!
just
........
scenester?
http://tinyurl.com/282t3x
:)
i still see them as annoying scenesters. so?
why don't you all attempt to tell me why they're not crap?
because opinions are opinions
and that's cool.
calling a band "scenster" and then refusing to explain WHY they are is, y'know, pretty retarded.
see above
because they have fantastic songs
they're happy, and joyous, and they always look like they're having a great time. They don't really sound like anyone else, but at the same time are influenced by the whole history of indie-pop records. Their lyrics are brilliant (especially Night of the Living Dead). They're very twee, yet they're sometimes aggressive and sweary and have tattoos, they're not all sugary.
The only criticism I have is that they're not as good live as they are on record, but they are improving.
i just think they look uber-contrived
and fake, and didn't think any of the songs they had were even decent indie pop in any way. last night they especially seemed really try-hardy, and i found them uninspiring and boring.
lololololol
at you calling t&tw "fake" and "contrived" when you were going to see CSS.
tilly and the wall ARE fake and contrived.
and that's who we're talking about, not CSS.
you're confusing
your opinion with fact again. nothing i've ever seen has suggested that they are "fake".
in fact, as far as i know, most of them work dayjobs when not on tour. HMMMM.
seriously, what has that got to do with anything?
it's a pretty grinding lifestyle, being on tour when you don't make much cash out of it. all evidence i've ever seen, which includes watching them play, speaking to some of them afterwards, reading interviews etc ETC suggests the complete opposite. everything i've ever seen suggests they do what they do because they love doing it.
you may not like them, sure, that's fine. whatever. but calling their morals behind doing it into question? kinda low.
*ha* jesus christ.
get over it daniel. you'd think i just insulted your fucking best friend.
a) i make a valid, reasoned post, and you just divert away from the subject. no reply then? good work.
b) there's nothing to "get over", you're simply talking absolute shit and it's boring.
c) derka derr!
wow, to have you of all people call me boring.
resorting to personal insults?
lame.
and i didn't call you boring.
fine. state your argument and
i'll reply.
http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/1893363#r1895168
exactly what i said there.
this bit?
it's a pretty grinding lifestyle, being on tour
