'Darky' was last used by Alf Garnett in about 1974, when people also stopped using the word 'wog' or 'coon' about the same time, as they are all deemed racist words.

Your argument of people only liking Bloc Party because of the colour of the singer's skin is a racist comment. People like Bloc Party for the music.

Yes "whitey" is derogative. It doesn't have the cultural weight or stigma of "darky" but it is still derogative. Why doesn't it have the same negative power?? Well, I'm no expert on this, but it probably has something to do with the fact that racism (towards black people), in its most extreme form, boils down to slavery.

Now since white people made black people slaves, there is far more oppressive connotations to "darky" than there is to "whitey".

Like I said, I'm no expert, but this is how I see it.

I think part (note the word 'part') of bloc partys success has come from them being different (i.e. that wierd one with the sad hair and the black front man). This makes them recognisable and i think youre all wrong for insulting peteandcarl. Also, its funny how you insult him by saying he is young. I think youre all being ageist, you prejadice motherfuckers. Shove that up youre arse you hippies. Yeah you heard me, ageist. When you insult peteandcarl (who isnt acually young), and many others (myself included) for being 13/14/15, you are disregarding our opinion, based on our age, this disregard on our opinion is based on a steriotypical image that teens have a crap taste in music.
