A slew of new names have been confirmed for this summer's Carling Weekend, in Reading and Leeds.

They are as follows:

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly; Jamie T (pictured); Good Shoes; Jimmy Eat World; The Long Blondes; The Pipettes; Little Man Tate; The Enemy; The Horrors; Dead 60s; Eagles Of Death Metal; The Pigeon Detectives; The Young Knives; Nine Black Alps; The Uses; Hellogoodbye; Sparta; Hadouken!; Gym Class Heroes; Cold Ward Kids; The Maccabees; The Sunshine Underground; Late Of The Pier; New Young Pony Club; The Shins

See, some of them are okay, innit. Headliners for the three days are Razorlight, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Smashing Pumpkins.

yeah

they announced the date about 3 weeks ago.

I'm going to find a way to go to this.

Excellent.

I'll be off to see them then. Get my groove on :D

Ash

are above BRAND NEW

Ha take that you fuckers, thats what you get for being cunts on Saturday night.

grow

up

those 3 headliners

are enough to remind me: "what happened to good festival headline bands???"

that's what i think everytime i see it

urgh, razorlight?!

What's happened to..

Reading festival more like... it gets more branded every friggin year...and the facilities worse.

I thought

the facilities last year were much improved. Still not as good as they should be, admittedly. And every year they keep trying to squeeze more people in than it can take.

As for the line-up... hopefully the Carling stage will be good.

have you even been recently?

the facilities have improved massively in the last 2 years.

8 Years

in a row, and i have decided not to go this year. It was tat last year

but: PUMPKINS PUMPKINS PUMPKINS

I don't mind the chilis but they are distinctly kack now, and were only average at best after the early nineties. And razorlight are fucking shite.

i hope

Zeitgeist doesn't suck copious amounts of arse. I'm a huge pumpkins fan, but i'm dreading the new album.

well you say that

but i was looking at the old lineups from Reading on wikipedia and some of them aren't all that.

It's hard to be objective but i think it's a pretty strong lineup this year even if it's not all to my tastes

late of the pier:

only one of the new additions i'd make an effort to see

oh maybe jamie t and hadouken too.

man you are so cool

hadouken are so shit, seriously.

ace. Late of the pier, and eagles of death metal and the shins

schweet. And if !!! are confirmed too, then yowsers.

hurmm

not really impressed by any of those.
ones i have remote interest in i've already seen

Yes

I agree. Nothing crazy nice there.

this is the best reading

in years. The headliners are never really important.

It's all spread too thin

There's too many festivals and not enough good bands to go around unfortunately.

When I started going in 2000 you could sit around in March and you could know that you had a good day of metal coming Sunday and ace bands all over the place. Now I'm expected to go a field in Suffolk one week, a park in Leicester the next and endure V for some of their bands. It used to be just a case of tromping from the evening session stage to the carling tent.

it's all

about oxegen.

bit rub.

opinions

for what they're worth, my opinions of the newly added bands;

Main Stage

The Used (they are technically an emo band but not as emo as the rest of the bands that day)
Hellogoodbye (seriously this stuff sickens me)
Gym Class Heroes (don't know, don't wanna know, i'm out!)
Jimmy Eat World (they had 1 GREAT album and a few average ones)
The Long Blondes (tasty!)
Little Man Tate (they're called little man tate for christsakes)
The Pipettes (a good time to sit there and perve)
The Shins (miss them at your peril)
Eagles Of Death Metal (good for a laugh when you're already drunk around midday)
Dead 60's (i like ska me i do)

Radio 1 Stage

Jamie T (idiot!)
Cold War Kids (really rather good and i recommend checking them out)
The Maccabees (great little indie band)
The Sunshine Underground (gods amongst other bands)
New Young Pony Club (dancy indie, failed to impress me so far)
Hadouken (daimo likes em, i heard their single, it's a bit cack)
Late Of The Pier (picked up their first 7" and it's class)
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (he's class in my opinion)
The Enemy (for once a new band worthy of some of the hype)
The Horrors (gimmick band, but they sound like the birthday party and i liked them)
Sparta (what the members of At The Drive-In who didn't form Mars Volta did)
Dinosaur Jr. (they better play 'Freak Scene')
The Pigeon Detectives (local lads done good)
The Young Knives (not bad on record, terrible live)
Nine Black Alps (so underrated it's not even funny anymore)
Good Shoes (slightly overrated in my opinion)
The Noisettes (excellent band, grab a beer and enjoy)

Ew.

Nah.

The Young Knives,

boring. Please stay in 2004, where you were slightly interesting.

The rest seem pretty boring. Apart from the Shins and maybe Cold Ward Kids.

My mate loves Jamie T but always misses him

This will make him really happy tonight when the bastard finally pays for his ticket.

Long Blondes is a nice edition, ditto Pipettes provided they give them an afternoon slot and its nice and sunny. I like the Young Knives as well, so there.

Excited about The Shins but I knew that ages ago.

The Shins and Dinosaur Jr.

Excellent.

Wow, Razorlight and chums

I don't get why festivals are so popular when the majority of the stuff they provide for the flush crowds is utter dross.
