American Hi-Fi: Flavour Of The Weak

You've heard this record before. Even if you haven't actually heard it, you'll know everything about it from the moment you hear the first chords. The first tacky exploding drum beat, the first sign of the whiny young Yank with dyed blonde hair, moaning about how shit his life is. Has no one told American Hi-Fi that this has been done before?

I don't need to tell you much about American Hi-Fi. You know the score. "Angry" young punk-popsters with bags of airplay on Lamacq and Virgin, make slightly sickly video for single, occasionally swear in interviews, get a cover of Kerrang, blah, blah.....

The thing about this record that I hate is it's sheer mundainity. The obvious attempts to coax the listener into buying the record because they feel sorry for the lead singer (tragically, this worked for Wheatus), really frustrate me, I really don't care if the girl you fancy has got a crap boyfriend, and would be much better off with you, mate, I honestly coudn't give a shit. The fact that your playing the same old Green Day chords while telling this to me, isn't helping.

Even just writing this review, I'm getting angry, cos I know that this'll go in a number 6 or something, and'll be followed by countless Top Of The Pops Plus interviews and look at the way they've spelt "week"...AAAAHHHHH!!!!!! I can't stand it any more!!!!!!!!! Turn It Off!!!!!!!!!!
