Do bands need two headstrong forthright members with that hint of genius about both to make something truly special?

Re: Creative Differences
No. But it does help
Re: Creative Differences
Yes I know that, i was trying to start a discussion about really good duos and that. As I'm sure you realised...
Re: Creative Differences
Ok you name one and i'll name one :P
Re: Creative Differences
Lets start obvious:
Lennon / McCartney

Lennon / McCartney
Re: Creative Differences
Reed/Cale
Re: Creative Differences
I'm sure there are plenty of solo artists who would disagree.
Re: Creative Differences
Chilton/Bell
Re: Creative Differences
McCabe/Ashcroft
Re: Creative Differences
Corgan/Iha
Re: Creative Differences
Excuse my ignorance, quelle band?
Re: Creative Differences
Chilton Bell that is
Re: Creative Differences
Big Star.
Ocasek/Orr
Re: Creative Differences
I'm swiftly coming to the conclusion I actually know very little about music...

Doherty/Barat

Re: Creative Differences
Doherty/Barat are a prime example.
*Throws Banana as he was wondering whether Rapscalion was hungry*
Bixler-Zavala/Rodriguez-Loepz
Re: Creative Differences
I was hungry, and I've just got back from my tea

Re: Creative Differences
Morrisey/Marr
Re: Creative Differences
Hart/Mould
Re: Creative Differences
That's the one I thought of! Perfect example of 2 songwriters constantly trying to out-do each other which led to greatness!
Re: Creative Differences
MacKaye/Picciotto
Re: Creative Differences
I guess I am trying to buck the trend here
Has to be done to test the validity of the hypothesis
Cave
Waits
Smith (E Mark)
Re: Creative Differences
Cave had Bargeld
Re: Creative Differences
Chas/Dave
Re: Creative Differences
Trend bucking wise:
Ian Curtis?
Parnerships, Gilmour/Waters or is that stretching it a bit?
Re: Creative Differences
Curtis/hook
You cant ignore peter hooks bass work, it was vital to the joy division sound. Hence so many people, including a lot of guitarists citing him as an influence.
Re: Creative Differences
Re Chilton / Bell:
The only BS album they're both on is the worst one :P
Although I agree both were great in their own right.
Re: Creative Differences
Smiley, Bell was actually on Radio City as well. For some reason he was uncredited.
Re: Creative Differences
Squire/Brown
Re: Creative Differences
Jagger/Richards
Just going off topic slightly, what I can't understand is singers who take the credits for the songs of their band e.g. Julian Cassablancas gets the sole credits for the Strokes songs. Does he sit down & write every last bit of the tune, then shows the band how to play, like they're hired hands? Surely that can't be true?
Re: Creative Differences
I think if you listen to the strokes you can tell that there's a controlling pair of hands at the root of everything. In my opinion they'd be much better if it wasn't just Casablancas and there was some creative dichotomy.
All of them pulling in different directions. The result? Utter genius.
Re: Creative Differences
Fletcher/Jones
Re: Creative Differences
The one I thought of instantly was Bixler-Zavala/Rodriguez-Lopez... Sadly fullerov beat me to it but its nice to know someone agrees with me on a that.
