Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Never really got into music DVD.
What would you recommend me of the bands I rate?
I've got the Coldplay live one but it's nothing special.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Magical Mystery Tour - the beatles

awful film, but hysterically funny.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense.
Sonic Youth - Corporate Ghost
The Director's series (Spike Jonze especially)
Bjork - Vespertine Live @ RFH

Haven't seen the YYY's one yet.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

i like my Alkaline Trio dvd.

I fully expect everyone else to hate it.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

no, quite the contrary actually

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Some of the live gig DVD's can be a bit boring, it's not quite the same as being there under the influence. But one's where you get a good collection of a band's video singles are great ! Seems to be the way forward now with most artists releasing their single in a DVD format.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer have great DVD's of this nature.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

i want that weezer dvd. that looks like a proper music dvd, not just videos/a show but a hell of a lot more/using the space.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Corporate Ghost is excellent. Um, that's the only music DVD I have.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

fugazi - instrument

foo fighters dvd was good, but some interviews or something would have been nice

anthrax music of mass destruction

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

instrument=essential.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Meeting People Is Easy from Radiohead always makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Is that just a documentary or are there videos/live performances? I've been thinking about getting it for years.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

rage's last gig. live at the olympic auditorium. zack's final echoes of freedom spine chilling

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Brilliant documentary shot in black and white showing the slow demise in sanity of Mr Yorke. Touching too though and some really nice soundchecks (especially Follow Me Around).

7 Commercial Thingy (??) is their OK Computer vids and is of course genius too. Bear in mind i may be alittle biased however!

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Metallica's S&M

Nitin Sawhney's Prophesy

RATM - self titled with the videos and live clips

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

David Bowie "reality" and
Pixies "Pixies"

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Jeff Buckley, Live in in Chicago. Marvellous

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Laibach: The Videos. There's a bit of a duff patch in the middle where they experimented with bad CGI, but otherwise some classic promos.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

No one has mentioned the Beastie Boys video collection here yet.

Intergalactic in 10 different angles plus 5 different remixes!
Sabotage with loads of angles + spoof docu!
It doesn't get any better.

Fugazi's Instrument is great as well.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

yeah, i was also gonna mention that one too. So so so good. Even if you only like them a bit it's worth every penny, especially as it's it's dirt cheap in some places. You can't beat the multi angle, multi remix, multi multi goodness. I really want some of the remixes on CD tho, can they be burnt in any way? I also have the Air DVD which is ok, if you are a big fan of the moon safari stuff, but there's very little to it....

..those directors DVD's are pretty good too, got the michel gondry and spike jonze ones, good music, good videos and some nice extras too.

bonus.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

i was pretty dissapointed in the jonze release, haven't seen the gondry one. its a huge collection, but there really isn't all that much that stands up today. I'd say better value is Chris Cunningham's disc, despite having around a quarter of the content of this collection

Features the music videos Beastie Boys - 'Sure Shot', The Pharcyde - 'Drop', Daft Punk - 'Da Funk', Weezer - 'Undone (The Sweater Song)', Fatboy Slim - 'Praise You', The Chemical Brothers - 'Elektrobank', Bjork - 'It's Oh So Quiet'.

Drop and Praise you are the ones that stand out, with Buddy Holly on top of the list. Elektrobank is shit, what the fuck is that about? Cannonball is a great song and a rubbish video. Sabotage is a hugely overrated video.

I just found it hugely disappointing overall.

ps. if anyone can find the full tracklist online then please post it up.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

funreal for a friend= spilling blood in 8mm

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

I managed to buy Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense for a 5er in Fopp. One of the best 5er's I've ever spent.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

The YYYs Dvd is the best! It's got loads on it - music videos and MTV awards where they gave an amazing performance amongst roses I think. It's ace anyway: go buy.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Pavement - Slow Century. Loads of stuff on it. Packed with interviews, videos, live performances, an absolute quality dvd.

The Cure - Trilogy. If you like Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers you'll love it. It's basically all three albums played live in Berlin in their entirety in a mass gig setting. It was done primarily for the filming of this dvd, so the camera work & quality of sound is superb. It's very very good. Robert Smith is a brilliant guitar player & i like his 6-string bass-as-a-guitar playing.

Pixies - Pixies (derrr obviously)....just for the Town & Country club gig alone. A great document of a brilliant band almost at the height of their powers. They've got loads of footage from the reuinon for another dvd (unsuprisingly, the money grabbing bastads!)

Also - Elvis '68 comeback special is great, but not quite worth it for the outtakes etc. It's too much.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Instrument (of course)
You can also get some good Hendrix DVD's - Woodstock I think.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Radiohead - Meeting People Is Easy (probably my overall favourite) and 7 TV Commercials
The Cure - Trilogy
Led Zeppelin 2xDVD set
Sonic Youth - Corporate Ghost
The Rapture Is Live And Well in NYC

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Sounds like I should probably get meself a copy of Meeting People Is Easy.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

i have the following music dvds:

sonic youth, weezer and pavement.

i never watch any of them.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Its all about the ripped UK hip-hop DVDs I get off a guy I teach A-Level history to. Off the meatrack, blood.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

The Filth and the Fury.

A documentary all about the pistols which makes use of lots of old footage shot at the time.

Good shit.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

The Pixes dvd is way cool. The morphing heads are worth the price alone. You WILL freak when you find the Frank/Kim combo sexually attractive...*sudders*

The Complete Works of Michel Gondry is great an' all. He gets to make tons of Bjork videos.
Talented French Bastard.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

Amongst some of the other dvd's mentioned (esp. the fucking great Pavement one) here I would also say:

Wilco - I am trying to break you're heart - It's a documentary of the making of 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot'

Bruce Springsteen and the e-street band - Live in NYC - The boss on truly top form!!

Jeff Buckley - Live in Chicago - Even if you don't like the music you can just marvel at how annoyingly good looking he was (+ quite funny too).

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

LemonJelly - 64-95

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

pulp - hits
Absolutely brilliant with about 3 hours worth of extras.

Re: Favourite Music DVD's !

'The Last Waltz'
'Rust Never Sleeps'
'I Am Trying To Break Your Heart'
