yish, spelling it right kind of takes away from the effect ;)
also - "intellectuals are the shoeshine boys of the ruling elite"
and
"the light at the end of the tunnel is a train" which, as well as being by whitey was by unwound...who i have never heard of..
They Threw Us In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top- The Liars
Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven- Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Closer- Joy Division
Back In The DHSS- Half Man Half Biscuit
Jazz has the best album names, though. The sheer audacity of titles like 'The Shape Of Jazz To Come' (which has been copied by Green Milk From The Planet Orange for 'The Shape Of Rock To Come' and The Refused for 'The Shape Of Punk To Come'). Then there's...
Blue Train- John Coltrane
A Love Supreme- John Coltrane
Change Of The Century- Ornette Coleman
Space Is The Place- Sun Ra
A Kind Of Blue- Miles Davis
and my personal favourite...
Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus- Charles Mingus
That last one is great. Reminds me of a mid-90s album by some band called Waddle entitled Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger. It might not look much written down, but imagine John Peel drily intoning it and it takes on worlds of amusement...
I once wrote a song called 'I Want John Peel To Say The Title Of This Song Because It Just Wouldn't Sound The Same Coming From Anybody Else's Mouth'. I intended to record it in a blatant attempt to get on the Peel show but alas, never got round to it. I don't think it'd have quite the same ring if I replaced John Peel with Chris Moyles, tragically.
That said, seeing as I once wrote a song called 'How To Disappear Completely And Not Ever Be Found' and intended to write a track called Me Ves Y Sufres and one called Prypiat one day, I fully expect a major indie band to come along and steal my John Peel title (Radiohead stole How To, whilst Hope Of The States have stolen Me Ves Y Sufres and Pripyat. The twats).
Converge -'Petitioning the Empty Sky' and 'When Forever Comes Crashing'
Aesop Rock - Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives
Old Man Gloom - Christmas (because it has nothing to do with Christmas)
DEP - Under the Running Board
FBTMF - Odd How People Shake
Fugazi - In on the Kill Taker
Neurosis - The Eye of Every Storm
locust - follow the flock, step in shit
manitoba - if assholes could fly, this place would be an airport
poison idea - record collectors are pretentious assholes
the queers - love songs for the retarded
'Blues for the Red Sun' - just love the imagery of it.
'The Holy Bible' - pretentious, yet totally justifyed
' Unknown Pleasures'
umm, there's probably more somewhere...
Nirvana - Nevermind (summin' up Generation X apathy innit?)
Also, We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes by Death Cab For Cutie is a top album title. Conversely however the follow-up, The Photo Album, is rubbish.
'Dangerous youth, blood thirsty babes'-tv on the radio
'Wanted:new best friends'- this years model
'Don't cut your fabric to this years fashion'-action action
Arthur or the decline and fall of the british empire - the Kinks
